Actually, I think he foresaw Shyamalan as a talent that would give us many years of top notch entertainment and figured he could start blanket panning the guy on the assumption that White would always be trolling these great movies. But now that Night's took the unexpected quality swan-dive, he's stuck with it.

The AV club gave it an F and talked about the 3-D rip-off bullshit as well. If the movie sucks in 2-D, trying to pass it off as 3-D when it's not to make a few extra bucks is the most shameless thing I can think of. Is this the last nail for M. Knight's coffin or what?

Funny, because this movie is, from Shyamalan's own mouth, his attempt to join the ranks of the big boys...

"But the CGI part of it definitely scared me to death. It was something I had to learn, and really I felt like to be a “big boy” I had to learn this as part of my storytelling. [laughs] I felt like Mr. Spielberg, Mr. Lucas, Mr. Jackson and all these people were just naturals at it, and this was my training ground — just like if you want to play professional basketball you gotta learn to do [certain] types of moves. I definitely, probably, put everyone through the wringer as I was learning on the job, but I feel much more confident now where if I were given the opportunity to make parts two and three of this franchise I would love to continue the education."

Ugh. Definitely skipping this in theaters. Too bad, as i really love the cartoon and I worry this film will turn the uninitiated away from the franchise. Oh well, at least I own the entire series on DVD...

&#$*% you M. Night. Thanks for turning out yet another stinker...of a property I like, to boot.

From a friend's Facebook status, he's a big fan of the TV show:

If this movie is worse than revenge of the fallen I will probably go on a quest to personally sodomize M. Night smajdhdhejj with a cold spoon.

I've never seen the show, but the trailer with the pull-back showing all the ships got me pretty excited to see this one. Glad I read this thread and Devin's column first.

Avatar and How to Train Your Dragon are the only 3D movies I've seen where I felt like the 3D effects added something to the movie. The floating seeds wrapping around the audience in Avatar helped me feel like I was immersed in that world. The flying scenes in Dragon were brought to life by the added sense of depth. If the filmmaker hasn't already thought through how 3D would enhance a particular scene or sequence and filmed accordingly, 3D really is just a scam to squeeze a few extra bucks out of viewers for the same product. If there is any silver lining to this apparent M. Night debacle, is that it may take a "3D" film this bad to create a backlash against these lazy 3D-just-as-an-afterthought productions.

Wow, the reviews I've read so far are SLAUGHTERING this film. Can't wait for Devin's.

The 3D sounds abysmal, though, especially considering how dark this movie looked even in the trailers. It doesn't sound like they gave a moment's thought to the added darkness the 3D glasses add. How could they overlook something so major?

One more nail in the coffin of crappily post converted 3D, and of Shyamalan's career. I've never seen a filmmaker start off more promising and then go so far off the rails so quickly. Such a shame.

The show is light, intelligent, fun family entertainment. It's the best kind of show for kids and families. But the movie looks dark, dreary and dimly lit. And on top of it, fans of the show that have seen it are going ape shit. I would stay very far away, and for those of you who check it out, don't let it reflect your perception of the show.

I'm trying to do my best to save my friend who's a fan of the show from seeing this but he won't listen. He's like, "I gotta support Aang, man".

No one ever listens to me and they never learn. I'm at least imploring him to see it in 2D if he can but we'll see how that goes.

I think I'll get Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series from Netflix, and stay far away from this turd.

Though I can't help have a degree of satisfaction at the reviews this thing is getting, I'm certain that the epic degree of negativity has a lot to do with the fact that it has Shyamalan's name on it.

They'll tear him and his movie apart the way that Scrunt tore apart Bob Balaban!

Why does your friend feel the need to "support" a Paramount adaptation of a Nickelodeon franchise? Your friend is a retard. Stop being friends with him.

Yup. One of my favorite teaser trailers in years.

Please keep on topic. Pre release chatter goes in pre release, post release in post release, etc. This thread is for the specific topic of 3D in THE LAST AIRBENDER.

Because of the fucking TOXIC reviews coming off of this film, how are they going to sell it in other countries? Did the studio believe it was going to worth anything? It always astounds me, that when they know they have a stinker they don't do a simultaneous release in the US and UK.

Also before any sort of international release, will they attempt to try and fix the darkening effect? Or will they just print BIGGER posters for bus stops?
