Had my first gun pulled on me today.

Ugh, Just got home after a fun time on Milwaukee's better side, lol. My buddy installs water heaters, furnaces, etc, for a government program that helps out needy families. Well, he called me up, cause he had a ton of scrap that he didn't want so I went down to pick it up in my truck. It was a decent amount of aluminum and copper, so I started throwing it in the back of my truck. As soon as we were done, three outstanding members of society pulled up in their truck, pulled out two handguns, and said "don't move, or I'll blow your fucking head off" and proceeded to take all the scrap out of my truck. Would have called the cops, but their black F150 had no plates. Yep, last time I'm ever doing that again. 60 bucks worth of scrap ain't worth my life.

Hi. I live in Milwaukee. Where were you, if you don't mind my asking?
Back in 1993 I was held up at gunpoint walking home from the bus stop after seeing PHILADELPHIA that night. Gun put to my head and everything, and then they hit me across the eyes with the barrel when they were done.

It takes a while to get over it, let me tell you.

I'm getting more shook up as I think about it.

if you need a weapon to be a tough guy, you are not a tough guy.

The part that get's me, is I only went down there cause I wanted the extra money to take my wife out to dinner tonight. Next time, I'll just take up a paper route... in the suburbs

I had my first gun pulled on me at 14. Arizona is a terrible place.

That sucks. And at least you're alive. Which is the important thing.

Shouldn't you report it though? Even with no plates, more info might help the cops. They could have done it before after all.
Ugh, I don't know what you could have done differently, but your story makes me very angry. I don't like the idea of people thinking they can take someones stuff (especially scrap, I used to collect copper scrap as a hobby when I was little) just because they are waving a gun around. Threatening you did not give them a right to your property. It seems like the ultimate 'might makes right' situation. I don't like to think of people getting pushed around by thugs like that.

Jesus, I'm sorry, man. That would be enough of a scare for me to start packing heat as protection.

i thought about calling, but shit like this, just get's thrown away by the cops. Sure, they will take down a report. But it will mean nothing. Three Black men, driving a 1990s Ford F-150? I guess they could report it to the scrap yards, but they won't call on anyone even if they match the description.

nah, I'll never own a gun. Don't like them. If I had a gun, and pulled it, then what? I would have had a better chance of being killed if I had a gun.

Then what you're saying is that the problem here is the police. They think that a citizen being threatened with death if he did not submit to literal highway robbery is not important enough to follow up on. Yet somehow I bet this same PD still has the man power to send out 'unies' to ticket people for parking violations

MIlwaukee Police are useless. I had my truck fucked with big time two years ago. Some guy cut my brake lines, and I ended up crashing it. I knew who did it, he bragged about it to mutual friends, and the police did nothing. DIdn't even question the guy, stating it was circumstancial evidence, even tho three people tesitified to them that this guy addmitted to doing it.

*insert joke about Nick's wife finding more porn*

Seriously, dude, I'm glad you came out unscathed. All that scrap metal don't mean shit as long as you guys are still breathing. I've never had this happen to me (KNOCK ON WOOD), but I've had knives and bats and shit pulled on me, which is still kinda scary. My best to you and feel free to do whatcha gotta do to calm your nerves.

Nope. Call the cops. They are incredibly interested in property crimes and robberies in that area, given its proximity to student neighborhoods. Your information will not just be "thrown away."

Also, amusing sidenote... I'm pretty sure that's the neighborhood where some lunatic had a shootout with the cops a couple weeks back. With an AK-47. O.O

edit -http://www.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/97223234.html Yup. Two blocks north.

Just report it anyway, you never know.

Living in England, it would be very rare for someone to have a gun pulled on them (regardless of what people say about Gunchester) so I can't possibly comment on that. But the cops will take evidence (prints, microbes n shit) from the scene and you never know. A friend of mine was mugged by a gang and went through the procedure of reporting it, fully expecting nothing to happen. A few months later the fuzz got in touch and said they had one of the guys thanks to a print he'd left near the mugging and they'd caught him on another 'job'.

My point is, if you don't report it, there's no chance you'll ever prevent it happening to someone else. If you do, at least you did your part, regardless of the outcome.

And yes, it sucks big time. I can't possibly imagine how horrible what you've been through is. I'm sorry that you went through that. You seem to be handling it better that I think I ever would.

This is natural, the second-guessing of what one could have done to have avoided a bad moment.

The truth, as I am sure you realize, is that sometimes bad things just find you.

Yeah, you could have taken that paper route and you could have been fine, or hit by a drunk driver.

I'm sure you realize this logically, even as you are caught up in the emotions of almost blaming yourself for random bad luck. Hang in there.

To me, that sounds like the cops didn't want to bother with the paper work and policing needed to right that wrong.

1) You could have died. It's no stretch of the imagination to call cutting someones break lines 'attempted murder'

2) You had THREE eye witnesses who saw the man admit to attempting to murder you by severing your breaks. If they said that's "circumstantial evidence" they need a dictionary and a suspension from the force

3) They could have dusted your break lines for prints.

cops are on there way over now to talk to me about it, and to write a report.

Told my brother, and he's like "dude, we should watch the Boondock Saints tonight"

I said "No way, no need to make this day worse"
I still like parts of Boondock Saints. Ha ha.

That really sucks, man. Never had it happen to myself, but a guy pulled a gun on my Youth Pastor in downtown Des Moines in front of me once. And not like it had anything to do with the Youth Pastor thing or anything, we were just getting gas. Ah, cities. I love them so.

Well, you're alive and that's what counts.

Had a gun pulled on me once, my fight or flight is a bit fucked though: I grabbed the gun and headbutted the fucker. K.O.! He went to jail, and I felt like a badass at the time (I was 16), but now I just see that I was a dumbass.

Then when I was 18 I actually saw him at the local mall. I waved at him and smiled. He just walked away.

Me too. Particularly the ending credits.

At 18, I walked into the middle of an armed robbery when I was delivering pizza as a summer job. Guy was robbing a radio shack; had a sawed off shotgun and proceeded to tie us up using AC cord.

Scary shit. It does take a while to get over. I ended up going to camp the next week, and as part of the intro to camp, had guys dressed as rednecks carrying toy rifles greeting the campers. I spent the entire ride to camp watching everything they did.

(The guy robbing the radio shack left us there, and we eventually freed ourselves and called the cops. He ended up being caught and convicted.)

Wait, wait, you're in your late twenties, in a sexless marriage, in the doghouse for insulting the femininity of your wife and subsequently getting caught with porn, a victim of violent crime and ... you live in Wisconsin. Fucking Hell. It's like you made every choice in your life with the end to suffer in mind.
be sure to let us know what the cops said! The thing is, in most places you need to show ID before you can recycle scrap metal.
I've only had a knife pulled out on me. But I was so angry at the time that only after a few hours did I realize the gravity of the situation and freak out appropriately. I can't even imagine what facing a gun would make me feel like. But you did the right thing. 60$ of scrap isn't even worth getting in a slap fight.

Took down thre report, got description of from me of what they looked like, and what the truck looked like. What was taken, if there was any witnesses, etc. They said they will call all the area scrap yards, and give them a description of what would be getting scrapped (furnace parts), and the description of the men, and the truck.

I'm fine now. Went out for some drinks last night. I feel lucky more then anything. Many violent crimes in that area, so I'm lucky to be not hurt.

Only gun I've ever had pulled on me was by a New York City cop.
I got mugged a few times in seedy areas while buying drugs. It sucked.
Hey, glad you're alright NickP.

I rear-ended some guy's car in HS and stepped out of my car to a gun in my face. Not a fun situation to be in.
You should report this. It's kind of your duty as a citizen. I'm sure you don't want to deal with it but at least you know you did what you were supposed to do. They're going to keep doing it and eventually something terrible is going to happen. At least you can tell yourself you did everything YOU could regardless of whether the cops just sit on their asses or not.

I had a gun pulled at me and 2 of my friends when we were 17. We were coming back from the casino with a couple of hundreds in winnings. We were entering the gate of the living complex one of my friends was living and 2 guys came out of the shadows with guns and demanded we gave them everything. One of my friends quickly entered the gate and locked it. Leaving my other friend and me outside with the 2 guys. He had the most amount in winnings... we both gave them everything, i asked my robber if he would be kind enough to give me back my Id's and documents and he kindly did. Then they left.

I wanted to punch my friend into oblivion for being such a pussy and backstabber. But i just left home in a cab and punched a wall at home.

Same here, except it was three cops in McDonough, Georgia and they thought I was robbing a church.

Yeah. Obviously it's no one here's fault, but the way people are talking about having their 'first' gun pulled on them like it's some inevitable right of passage, struck me as kind of unsettling. I don't think I ever even saw a handgun til I saw a cop toting one when I went to visit New York and haven't seen one since.

Constant vigilance, my friends. Don't let your guard down ever. Half of protecting yourself is not putting yourself in precarious situations.

Absolutely, but at the same time you can't always be on top of your game. I'm pretty attentive and can be light on my feet when I want, so while that's all fine and good, I've scared the living shit out of people before because they didn't hear me coming up until it was too late for me to say/do anything and they completely flipped out. Kinda makes me worried about getting stabbed/maced one day. Maybe I should wear bells. Like a housecat.

America sure sounds like a dangerous place to live. Thank goodness I don't live there! *Phew* Hopefully i'll never have a gun pointed at me. *Fingers crossed*

Glad to hear you're okay Nick.
