See also: Brendan Fraser, who was chasing the Indiana Jones image with The Mummy movies.

I was gonna let MrSaxon's comment go, but now I can't. Lol

I'm flabbergasted anyone can think Nathan Fillion or Brendan Fraser, for that matter=Harrison Ford

I see Pitt and Clooney as the modern Redford/Newman.

I don't really have anything to substantiate it, but I've always been curious as to how Scarlett Johannsen would have fared back then, standing and working alongside Gene Tierney and Veronica Lake and Bette Davis and such. I almost feel like being surrounded by those people in that environment would have helped elevate her, talent-wise.

Guy Pearce would had been a great addition to the days of film noir.

I could see Kevin Spacey doing comedic roles in the 50's.

John C Riley would have had a few leading roles in the early 30's. He just has that type of face for some reason.

Josh Holloway would have been Don Johnson big in the 80's, probably staring in bad movies as a tough guy bartender, or hot shot detective.

I think Claudia Cardinale would have a been popular international actress today. I'd see her as playing a Bond girl or having a career on par with someone like Marion Cottillard.

As do I - if Newman and Redford were in their prime today, Clooney and Pitt would be in trouble.

I'm still waiting for a Goldmanesque script that really utilises Clooney and Pitts epic chemistry. The Oceans films touched on it, but they need a real two hander to let just the both of them bounce off each other for two hours. Their Butch & Sundance or Sting.

I have a hard time finding a place for John Wayne in today's industry. His entire career trajectory was launched by a genre that's basically dead in today's cinema (the western), he was the "favorite" of a legendary director (Ford) and really cemented his status as a star with pictures that were firmly of their time (World War II).

Whatever you think of Wayne's merits as an actor it can't be denied that he was extremely lucky to carve a niche out in the 30's and ride that bitch all the way to being an icon.

I'd like to also further say that if you don't think Tom Hanks would have had Jimmy Stewart's career I don't think you're worth talking to.

Conversely Ole Jimmy would have been great in the modern Hanksian roles of today.

John C. Reilly would be getting solid roles in the mid to late 70's of the Ned Beatty/Jack Warden variety.

No doubt in my mind Steve McQueen would be huge now.

Bryan Cranston would do fairly well in the early 70's in Gene Hackman or Warren Oates type roles.
