And yet, somehow, you can get the giant box set that's missing Freddy vs Jason, but has a shit ton of bonuses (including the 3D glasses for Freddy's Dead), brand new, for LESS.

I am confused. Bordering on flabbergasted.

Great recap of the set, though.

I have that set. It's GREAT. And the whole "put the spines together to make a picture of Freddy" art looks pretty awesome on my shelf.

Also - agreed on the kudos. I haven't had the opportunity to really READ it yet, but I did skim it and I enjoyed the little bit I saw.

Thanks guys. It was the most fun and the most work intensive review I've done. Hope it turned out half-decent.

Yeah, me too. As an added bonus, it has all of the original trippy poster art for the series.

I really love the original poster art. It's so fucky weird and Dali-esque.

Great review. I appreciate you going through each film rather than just broadly discussing the transfer and extras. It was so much fun reliving them through the review.

I also have the 7 film box set with all the extras. I was a little mad, at first, because it cost me $100+ at the time and this one is so cheap and includes Freddy vs. Jason (which I can't help but love). I'm glad I have the extras, though.

Also, micro-naps... what the fuck?

Great review, kinda reminds me of when Devin did his mammoth F13 series write-ups. CHUD needs more series of articles like that, and it's not like there's any shortage of materials to discuss.

As a kid I was a HUGE Freddy fanatic, going so far as to buy a $90 Freddy mask for one Halloween, the album where Englund sings ALL the songs (God, that was AWFUL!) and even a replica glove. Wish I still had some of that stuff.

Now that I'm "grown up" (whatever THAT means!) I'm kind of baffled at how a friggin' pedophile child molester wound up being such a beloved icon. I guess it's ok to mutilate little girls, as long as you have a quip handy while you're doing it.

I concur! And I wish I could do em all! I find analyzing entire franchises inherently interesting. Even the crappy ones, like CHILDREN OF THE CORN. Devin's F13 series was actually what turned me on to CHUD in the first place, and I've been dying for more ever since. Was very happy to be able to contribute to the cause.

If Nick and co. are willing to let you write up a series of articles, I'm on board to read and discuss them, and I doubt I'd be the only one. Hell, even a more in-depth on the Elm St. series would be cool with me. I'd personally love to see Romero's Dead films get the in-depth treatment here.

And man, SOMEBODY ought to do one of these series on Bond.. but that'd likely shave years off of the authors life.

Jesus. Bond would be intense. Grueling.

God, Romero's DEAD would be a blast to write about.

Great review, Worm. Very thorough, nice caps, everything.

Bond would have to be a tag-team or something else. It's just so hard on people.

I like the ideas about the Dead Series and other franchises.

Personally, I'd like to see Chud take on the Dirty Harry movies. I recently picked up a bargain set at Best Buy of the first four films and was pleasantly surprised by how well some-though certainly not all- of them hold up. Great special features too. Not what I expected for ten bucks. And John Milius. JOHN MILIUS!!!

Aside from DEAD POOL I really like the Dirty Harry series. Some great stuff in that series. Frankly though I think CHUD write-ups of pretty much any film series (good or bad) would be interesting to read. I think it would also be fun to do some informal series, like all the Lon Chaney Jr. Larry Talbot films.

And Milius in-fucking-deed.

Just got around to reading these. Very well done all around. I agree with you on pretty much all counts. Kudos for being as haunted by Debbie's elbow-splitting as I am.

A few points:

I'm pretty sure I heard on a commentary (I think) that it was a stunt double doing the goofy Freddy run in the original during Tina's dream. At least I'm pretty sure. I recall Craven talking about how bad/out of character it looked.

Don't know if matters or whatever, but in your Dream Child review, you mention Steven Grives playing the titular character when it's in fact Whitby Hertford. Yes, I happen to know this kid's name off-hand. No, I'd rather not explain why. Not important, but I thought I'd mention the gaffe regardless. Didn't know if you'd like to edit for posterity.
Thanks! I've corrected the Whitby Hertford error. For posterity, indeed.

And I believe you're correct on the horrible run in NIGHTMARE, but it doesn't really matter who did it, you know? It still looks that way on screen. Makes you wonder why Craven didn't think it looked bad/out of character while they were on set.

The Stephen King film thread makes me think that a Stephen King film retrospective would be a great (albeit massive) undertaking.
Massive! It would have to be on-going, where it might be days (or a week here and there) between titles. That would be a very rewarding experience though.

Fantastic retrospective MightyWorm. I'm a lot more ammenable to the charms of 3 and 4 than you are, but it's always bracing to have an analytical eye cast over a favoured series.

I'd love to see Chud take on something like the Bond series, but I feel that it'd be probably too much to take for one reviewer. I'm a Bond fan and I'd be contemplating a shotgun barrel by the time got to For Your Eyes Only.
Thanks man. Do you mean 4 and 5? Cause I'm a fan of 3.

I agree about Bond. Would be a fun team effort.
