The Long Awaited Gran Turismo 5

Couldn't find an established thread for this game. I've always thought of Gran Turismo as more of a driving simulator than a racing simulator. And jeez, what the hell is taking so long?

Oh. I see. Hot damn, that looks good. The king is back.

Japanese developers have been completely baffled by this generation's hardware. Case in point: between GT4 and 5, Microsoft has released three well-received Forza games.
Apparantly it has the Top Gear track on it as well.
I wonder how many kids waiting for this actually reached the required legal age for driving during the wait period.

Long development time? I figured trying to get a car count of 1000 takes a fair bit of work. But then I read that the car roster is split into "standard" and "premium" cars. It's only the premium cars, modeled for GT5, that feature the full damage modeling and detailed interiors. The standard cars, which may number around 800 or so, are more basic car models, and may be adapted from previous GT games.

Maybe the premium and standard cars will look the same level visually, from the exterior. But the standard cars definitley do not have the full damage model or detailed interiors.

November cannot come soon enough. GT5 is probably the game I've most been looking forward to.

I suppose that's a fair trade-off. All the must-drives like the R8 and GTR are gonna be fully modeled, which is something I had actually worried about watching that video - the undercarriages were not 100% faithfully reproduced!!

You can just look at the other 800 or so cars as an added bonus. Even with untold years of development, fully modelling the interiors of a thousand cars would be silly.
It might not get released in November, or ever, LOLOL etc - but there will be go karts and a course creator. And holy jesus do the screenshots looks good.

I hope there is a Kia C-apostrophe-eed in the game as well.
There has to be a Dacia Sandero as well. Course it will never happen since this game is never coming out.
Well, its now got a japanese and european release date of november 3rd, to go along with the north america release date of november 2nd. I think that pretty much solidifies it's release.
I'd say that's a good thing if it hasn't had a few release dates so far.
Got to play a demo of the game at Comic Con with the steering wheel in 3D. Not being a GT fan to begin with (I'm much more of an arcade racer guy), I'm the wrong person to listen to about this, but I wasn't all that impressed. I even forgot I had 3D glasses on. Cool to play it with the steering wheel though.
Why weren't you impressed?
Well, the demo track was pretty bland, which made the graphics less wow-inducing. That's pretty much the basis of it. Nothing in the demo felt like those amazing screenshots in the link you posted.

And as I said, I'm much more partial to silly arcade racers with weapons and stuff. Driving simulations aren't my thing (I suck at them), so I wouldn't take much stock in my opinion of the demo.
That's a shame, a lot of people have been speaking quite fondly of the 3D. Apparently granting some depth perception to the game actually makes it miles easier to judge when to turn into corners.
You know, the 3D may be the kind that was so well worked out that instead of wowing me with visuals, it worked effectively in making me feel the distances. Who knows? I did play the game much better than I'd played any of the previous GTs. But I figured that was the advantage of the steering wheel.
Honestly...I wouldnt even dare trying to gauge how good the game is going to be by the 3D. Thats such an insignificant part of the overall Gran Turismo experience, and no way to judge the game.
Ok, We've been waiting on this game for HOW long now? Gran Turismo 5. Wasn't it supposed to be released like 3 Forza's ago? I've always love the GT series having owned the previous 4 titles, but I think it's a little to little a lot too late. I am on reserve for it, but I was 3 years ago as well, so we'll see.....
Be patient, it takes time to get the damage modeling just right.

I could not possibly be less interested in a franchise, but for what it's worth, the demonstration at TGS last week was supposedly mindblowing. I saw some fuzzy .gifs of in-car view and weather effects that did look really sick.

The rain sequences look amazing, but the snow effects make the road look like Silent Hill 1.

I'm still very interested in this, but I just don't see how it can win the expectations game. I'm somewhere on the line between eagerness and morbid curiosity.

That looks >really< good. The snow looks like that because thats what it looks like when it snows. I think. I dunno, I live in Texas.
My interest in this game has been restored. Nighttime driving in the rain looks like a lot of fun!
Yeah, I think every time the game was about to get released, MS would release a new Forza and they'd have to go add all those features to the game.

The only way I'd play this is if I actually had a simulation rig I could sit in and like 10 PS3's linked together. The only way I could ever do halfway decent in the original was by abusing the lack of car damage so if there actually is damage in this, I'll probably be completely screwed.

Extra Urgent Press Release: Microsoft to release Forza 4 on November 1st, will include submersible cars

Yamauchi: NOOOOO!
I know this is the GT5 thread but I didn't want to create another thread for my racing game question. For the 360, what's the best Rally car game, I'm assuming Dirt2? I've heard it's really good.
I just pre-ordered my Collector's Edition the other day. So excited. This will be so awesome.

News Flash GT5 release date postponed till the PS4 3D console is released. Maybe....

All communications from Sony about Gran Turismo delays should just be a lonely:

from now on.

Oh balls.

Have to say, I saw this one coming. I commented to my friend last week about how there aren't any commercials for the fucking thing, how is it coming out in a matter of weeks? They should just announce that it's coming out "Holiday 2012" so that if they can actually get it out before then, everyone will see it as a win.
Gran Turismo 5....we hope to get it out before Gran Turismo 6!
The New York Times calls Polyphony to task.

Mr. Imasaki said the company “is shooting for it to be out by the holidays. You won’t see too much more delay.”
Now that's the kind of hard-line guarantee I can get behind!

"It won't be too much later than the nebulous time period we're not that confident we'll make."
Fucking hell...I think I'm going to join the "It's Never Coming Out" club with this one. I'm so pissed right now.
It's all been an elaborate hoax. There is no Gran Turismo 5.

Just wanted to point this out.
I hope it's not because the Ford GT was standing there in the middle of the track like jesus.

Any other developer, excluding Silicon Knights, would have been shuttered for the lengthy time and oft-delays seen in making this game.

I look forward to seeing if this makes my PS3 cry, but Forza 3 easily satiates my car collecting/driving needs at the moment.

I bought this on the way home from work yesterday. It is very fun. Wish i'd picked it up earlier.
Hmmmm, Now the latest delay release date is 01-01-11....... So my last comment could really pan out, premiere game on the PS4 in 3-D, only 2 more Forza's and this one MIGHT get released! LMFAO!
Officially official: Release date is November 24th....as in 11 days from now. I never thought it would come out this year.
It's not out yet.
Has anybody seen ads for this? The only hype (outside of the gaming sites) I've seen for GT5 this year was all wrapped around how hilariously delayed it is.

True. It looks like it will actually be out November 24th though. finally.
That's what people said about its LAST release date.
Man, I'm trying to be positive here. Dont bring me down. Haha.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...t-of-1031-cars

There's the complete car list for GT5...1031 cars long.
Supposedly only 100 of them are 'Premium' which means they include the advanced features in GT5 like cockpit view or damage modeling.
