2010 Emmy Nominations

Random thoughts:

-- Good for H. Jon Benjamin for getting a nomination for his voice-over work on Archer. The voice work really sells that show.

-- Five supporting nominations for Modern Family (three for Actor, two for Actress)!

-- The Actor and Actress nods for Friday Night Lights will make some of you very happy.

-- The snubbing of Community will probably outweigh that.

The lack of Community love troubles me. Specially a nod for Danny Pudi and Glover.

Breaking Bad is there, and i'm confident in the show's win and specially Cranston's, but all the acting nods should be theirs. Every single supporting actor should be there.

This X 1,000.

Also, The Pacific? Really?

Two measley noms for Treme (director and opening music), one for Justified (opening music), none for Sons of Anarchy. I did appreciate the Archer nom, though.

I need to watch Breaking Bad.

Breaking Bad was by far the best thing on TV this season. Glad Aaron Paul got nominated; Guy knocked it out of the park this season. Would've been nice to see Odenkirk or Esposito get nominated too.

Not a huge Community fan, so their absence doesn't particularly bother me.

EDIT: is Archer not eligible for outstanding animated program or something?

Martin Short got nominated for Damages. They get a little credit for that.

I'm not a huge Community fan either, but I didn't think they'd get completely shut out.

The nominations for Britton and Chandler for FNL make me want to do the Snoopy dance. Very happy for Chris Colfer too. Bummed to see The Office and 30 Rock awarded for their worst seasons yet, I would've swapped those with Community and Parks and Rec.

Treme's 10 episodes are now tied with The Wire's whole 5-year run for number of Emmy nominations: Treme got two for Directing and Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics.

Also, Conan's Tonight Show got nominated and Leno got nothing.
Well, I guess I'll be the guy who says that the COMMUNITY snubs basically invalidates that entire category.
Now Goggins gets to be screwed-over for multiple roles. That takes talent.
Dammit I was about to post that about Goggins, that is ridiculous.

I'm still shocked Matthew Fox were nominated (not a good thing).

But Community getting completely snubbed (I figured at least a writing nom or something) is bizarre.
Lost might not have had its best season, but I thought Fox was pretty great.
Every adult but Ed O'Neil got nominated? That sucks.l
post #14 of 37
Cranston should make sure he has extra shelf space for however long Breaking Bad keeps going.

O'Neil doesn't have the showiest role on Modern Family, so his work tends to get overlooked, but he's absolutely aces.
As Casey pointed out, "Treme" got screwed. How Does Clarke Peters not get a nomination??? Shame, shame, shame.
Wire got screwed over by the Emmys, why should Treme be any different?

Also, I'm happy Aaron Paul was nominated but Jesse Pinkman is a lead character.

Justified was good this year but they're still warming up, so I can understand why it didn't get nominated. I weep for Walton Goggins, he'll never get the credit he deserves. The dude *does* have an Oscar already though.

The hate for Glee will be high come Emmy time.

Don't get Tru Blood or Big Bang Theory at all.

Conan is a slam dunk win.

I can understand where you're coming from, but considering he certainly isn't the central character it's a minor sin from Emmy/Oscar perspectives. Getting him nominated in the Supporting category also gives him a shot at winning it which wouldn't have happened in the Lead category.
None from Community is well, I dunno, for me it's wierd. Goggins should be there.

This makes up for the Community snub...at least to me. And if the voters somehow decide to give him the win and give NBC the biggest middle finger ever...all the better.

This is they year 30 Rock finally gets taken down. Either by Modern Family or Glee. And it's not because 30 Rock had a bad season because it most certainly did not. And not becuase either show is better than 30 Rock because they aren't. It's just that both shows have the huge wave of popularity on their side right now. Although I could see a Glee backlash.

I'd say Modern Family had a stronger season than 30 Rock did. And that's more an indication of how strong Modern Family was than any failing on 30 Rock's part.

You're right, it's better that both Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul can win rather than them fighting for it.

Also, I'm super pleased for the John Lithgow nom. I think his only real competition is Ted Danson from Damages, although I have not seen the Good Wife at all and Alan Cumming is a genius so I won't discount him.
To add insult to no noms, Joel McHale was the presenter for the nominations with Sofia Vergara.
Only two for Treme? One for Justified? Community getting snubbed? I declare this year's Emmys invalid. I think I'll start a twitter account just so I can bitch about it.
I think this is Michael C Hall's year with him winning the Golden Globe and All. I think there should be a rule against nominating anyone who has won more than 2 times in a row.
At least the shield and/or the Wire won't be getting snubbed anymore.
I mean holy shit. Jon Cryer got nominated for fucking Two And A fucking Half fucking Men and none of Community's cast was deemed worthy? Not even a nomination for Katey Sagal for Sons Of Anarchy? On the other side, 24 nominations for The Pacific is pretty preposterous.

And fuck Glee. They don't even have their own songs. I hate them.
Presumably, most of The Pacific's nominations were in technical categories. And does anyone want to argue that The Pacific didn't have very impressive production values?
Not that she has a chance in hell of winning, but glad to see Sharon Gless get a nomination for Burn Notice. She's the most 3D character on that show.

Also: I forsee two Betty White wins here.
Yes, I see how the final episode of Lost was better written than, say, any hour of Breaking Bad.

And I don't much care how much you liked Treme or not, but if you don't think Khandi Alexander deserved to be nominated, well well well.

Good game, Katey Sagal. Good game, Bryan Batt.

Actors pick the category they submit too, though, which is why Aaron Paul is supporting. And probably helps his chance of actually winning, even though a perfect world would give it to Bryan Batt this year. That's also why Elisabeth Moss is up for supporting this year.
I like that Matthew Fox gets nominated. I have issues with the final Season of Lost, but Fox was pretty great (Particulary in the last episode). It takes some skill to make you care about a character who's been (Deliberately?) annoying for far too long.

I hope Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton win though. The work they do together is simply fantastic.
I'm happy for all the Lost actor noms (though the Elizabeth Mitchell as Outstanding Guest Star nom is a bit baffling) because they were by far the best part of the show.

Fuck Jon Cryer.

You're either high or full blown retarded.

or a little sarcastic.

Get that sarcasm meter checked, boy-o.

Shame about Sons getting completely shut out. I know it's not exactly Emmy voter's cup of warm tequila and dip spit, but Katey Sagal's performance was simply undeniable. And I really would've liked to see Ryan Hurst get some Supporting love.

Community, though, is just better than the Emmy's. I think it's a show that will thrive on being unappreciated (much as Donald Glover deserves some kind of trophy on his shelf).
In the Emmys defence, they pretty much suck every year. I'm not sure what I would do if they actually recognized the deserving shows/performances across the board one year. Considering what has been overlooked, it's practically a badge of honor to join that club when the Emmys exist to blow crap like Glee.
