Top Gear Season 15

CHUD Top Gear Brigade assemble!

Season 15 started two weeks ago and still no thread? Behavior like this makes baby Hammond cry.

The Reliant Robin bit was definitely the highlight of the first two episodes and one of all time great Top Gear segments. Absolute hilarity. And the second episode wasn't bad either. We got a little bit of Sabine and some uncomfortable jokes at Poland's expense at least. And here is the missing challenge from the episode.

Agreed on the Robin bit. Made me laugh almost as hard as the bits with the Morris Marina's from days gone by.

For shame on us all for not starting the thread. The first segmant with the new resonably priced car was brilliant, I love how the page three model is listed as (whatever her name was) 23, from Essex and Bill Baily is listed as Angelia Jolie.

I also love that my brother in laws BMW got such a pasting in the second eppisode as we spent the whole holiday calling him Gordon Gecko for buying one.

The third episode wasn't really that great except for Clarckson's 'sporting a semi' at Rupert Grint and how ridiculously well directed and shot the Camaro vs. E63 AMG bit was. Seriously by now you'd have to think that the Top Gear team is actually showing off.
I think Rubens Barrichello beating The Stigs time was pretty cool. I have a horrible feeling that Reliant Robin is going to become a running gag though, and it wasn't funny the first time.

I don't really like Barrichello that much so that segment left me kind of cold.
Ah, new thread. There's an idea. I posted some gifs from in the s13 thread when I couldnt find a season 15 one.

I laughed so hard when I saw Clarkson starting to tape up his trademark blue denim jeans. Seriously, there's like three shows on TV that make me laugh at all but Top Gear does it consistently.

That couple had to be friends of the crew or even crew members themselves cos there no way in hell they would have agreed to it otherwise.

I bet Hammonds wife loved him for his tirade on marriage.

Also it looks like next week may contain the home made motor homes clip that has been floating around youtube.

This weeks eppisode just became a must watch.

Tom Crusie and Cameron Diaz are the Stars in the Reasonably priced car.

The improvised mobile home test was preposterous. But it caused me to laugh so hard I ran out of breath at least twice. That cut to Hammond cowering in his bed while his 'house' was thundering around him was genius.
James May was (as always) the one who seemed to take it seriously and as such is the only one I would have bought.
So Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are now top of the fastest lap wall. Unsurprising really given their hobbies but still a fun interview and they both looked to be having a blast. Tom Cruise finishing the lap on two wheels was awesome.

The Senna film as well was well done, i was a bit sketchy on the dude before that so it was a real treat to watch that.
My favourite thing about the Senna piece was how Clarkson's opinion on him changed while he was making the film, gathering interviews etc.

Wow at Cruise's lap time. At least it confirms what has been said about him all long. He doesn't half-ass anything. The guy fucking commits to what he's doing. Even if it means he has to turn so hard the car actually rises up on two wheels, he has to get the top time.

The Senna bit gave me a boner about the time F1 was still F1 instead of Euro Indy. With their fucking homogenized rules and stupid cost cutting shenanigans. Just a bunch of insane short guys, going impossibly fast, on cars with horsepower in the thousands that weigh as much as a big bike and cost more than a mid sized African country's budget. That bit with Piquet overtaking Senna from the outside with opposite lock? I watched that when it happened. That insane Senna/Mansell duel in Monaco, Senna's first lap in Donnington too. I miss these moments.
I had never seen that clip of Senna taking out his rival so he could be world champion, that's insanity right there but I love how they mirrored it with Senna stopping his car to help out the guy who had crashed.

Lewis Hamilton looked like a kid on Christmas day when he got to drive Senna's old car.

I'd also like to add that the Veyron Supersport is the fucking Devil. First it's because someone finally unseated that ugly Gumpert from No. 1. But most importantly because watching 1,5 million GBP cars going over 400km/h makes me want to masturbate on the spot. Seriously, just how fast was the speed climbing past 300 km/h?

ETA:

Heh, I fucking knew it. Regarding Cruise's lap:

"Tom Cruise turned up really early," said Andy Wilman. "He put more effort into getting that lap time than I've ever seen anybody do.

"He was doing 190mph (305km/h) in the Bugatti Veyron down the runway. He knows what he's doing in a car.

"He took a load of instruction from The Stig. The celebrities that come on, they usually do four or five laps with The Stig, then they go out solo.

"He spent longer with him and was asking more detailed questions, so that his first dry lap was in the 1'45s already. He'd already done the lap record on his first dry lap."

As I said, the man doesn't half-ass anything.
That makes Diaz's time all the more impressive, if Cruise was hogging The Stigs time all day.

Looks like he wasn't kidding when he said he had a blast.

Sadly the last epp of the season. I think that Ferrari would annoy the hell out of me with its internal design but I cannot deny it looked sexy as hell. Interesting Piece on the decline of the British sports car as well, I have always had a bit of a thing for the Triumph Stag so I understand their man love of those cars.

And Jeff Goldblum doing the lap in Third gear was processes.

Agreed - you would think having the indicators swap sides depending on how far you've turned the wheel would put it on a par with a Lada, but by gum it looked like a lorra fun. Loved all the pisstaking over May's Ferrari as well. "You ate chocolate in my car "

...and SOOO pretty!

I grew up with my bedroom walls covered in posters of TVRs (esp the Speed 12 - a car surely designed for twelve year old boys), so the end of the piece at the Blackpool factory was a bit of a weepie.

Highlights were the "safety test" which The Stig walked away from after being decapitated, and Hammonds line about making sure Clarkson's seatbelt was all the way in (which I can't remember right now)

That it was, as much as Goldblum calling The Stig a wizard.

Any word on there being a global challenge (like the Vietnam/Botswana/Antarctica one) before the next series?

The factory tour was really kind of sad.

But oh what an absolute wonder that 458 is. As fast as an Enzo? Damn.
I've missed most episodes this season. Halfway through the Cruise one and enjoying it. Loved Hammon in Norway. That looked like a blast.

Stelios or anyone else, have you ever seen the specials? They don't focus that much on the vehicles, more a Top Gear travelogue where they act like English buffoons abroad. They ones to South America and Vietnam are fun.
The American one is my favorate I just love the whole first sequence where they try to buy cars.
Is that the one where they buy a pink car covered in 'gay rights' signs or something, and then drive through the southern states and get death threats? Or am I thinking of someone else?

That's the one, I think.

The specials are pretty epic. The North Pole one in particular was mind-blowing.

Clarkson and May quaffing gin in the Toyota pickup in the Arctic while Hammond (having just recovered from the rocket car smash) was being dragged by huskies will always make me giggle.
The International Specials make me want to visit those countries more than actual tourism/travel shows. Particularly the Vietnam special - that was a truly beautiful hour of Television.

Just caught the last episode now (damn them for scheduling it at the same time as Sherlock) and really enjoyed it - the Ferrari really was a thing of beauty, Jeff Goldblum was adorably fun and the look back at the now non-existant UK sports car industry was surprisingly poignant. Plus James' face about the chocolate bar was perfect.

In other news, there's a trailer out for the US version:

They're no Jezza/Hamster/Cap'n Slow but I'm prepared to give them a chance. I have to admit my scepticism remains about the main issue of a US version, ie. what happens when they give a manufacturer a scathing review but lets see how it goes.

That looks terrible. I don't like the young douchey hosts. I had high hopes for the Adam Carolla version that got trashed.

Needs more Clarkson.
So, The Stig has been revealed.

I'm a little bummed by this.
I say drop him from a Hercules plane in a Morris Minor and replace him with the all new Grey Stig (aka Rubens Barrichello)

Didn't the last one get launched from an aircraft carrier? Keep the military theme put him in a Robin and have an Apache blow his car up with a Hellfire.
I was talking about this today, I think best best option would be just to make Barrichello the test driver and say the Stig quit because he couldn't beat his time.

If he is going to fuck up such a great secret make sure he goes out in shame rather than a blaze of glory.
It just seems like a pointless decision in my opinion. He doesnt think just cos he is "the stig" that he will get more book sales. Im almost hoping for the book to bomb now, just due to his greed.
No matter how well the guys book will sell with all this free advertising (and it'll end up in Poundlands bargain bin within a fortnight) his true punishment is that he once dicked about with Clarkson, May and Hammond, travelling the world and driving some of the best cars available. NO MORE.
That and the fact he broke a confidentially agreement so who the hell is going to trust him now?
