Eureka - Season 4

Starts tonight.

Havent even seen a proper ad, has anyone? Saw a floating/static picture ad during warehouse 13
post #2 of 61
I have seen several regular ads. Looks like some good stuff.
The ads confuse me. Are they setting the whole season in the 1950's. Or just one episode.

based on the static floating ad i saw, where they seemed to be dressed by prada or something uber sleek and modern, id guess one episode, but i have no idea and havent seen the ad youre referring to obviously.
Well, it looked like the cast was changing up at the end of last season, the lack of ads could be for a 'reboot' of the show. I hope that hot chick who was diggin on Carter returns as a regular and they didn't touch Morton or the guy who plays Fargo...

Very excited about tonights episode.
I was confused about the time period as well. I think the 50's one Paul is talking about were the teasers they started showing about two months back.

I think they will be working Zoey and Tess back in for a couple episodes each since both their new tv shows were cancelled("Hank" with Kelsey Grammer lasted three episodes and "Eastwick" lasted a few more, no idea if it finished it first season).
What a great opener. Funny, well done and the "twist" at the end was excellent. Haven't enjoyed this show that much in a while.

Love me some Tess.
Ditto...this was a great episode. A fantastic way to start the season.
I know it has to happen, but I hope we get to see more than a couple of episodes with "Grant".
Yeah, that reminded me of the terrific season 1 finale... back when I thought this show had the chance to be something special. Great to see it get off to such a fun and interesting start.

Still getting used to Baltar's voice. I saw his part of the ending coming a mile away, but even as someone who didn't care that much for BSG, I recognize what a good get it is to have him on Eureka for a bit longer.

The other part of the ending was a big surprise though. I really hope they don't undo it at all. That would have so much potential for angst, freshness, and real scifi mind-bending.
It's also a good opportunity to bring Stark back (though it's possible Grant can have the same chemistry with Carter that he did). The show kind of went downhill after they killed him off.
Pretty good for the opener. Although leaving it open like that (especially since they will probably get a fix in the next episode) I would have just done a 2 hour opener.

Yeah the twist with Grant was pretty much laid out word for word when they realized he had Carter's phone. The only question is did he do it on purpose or was it an accident.
He is a founder of Eureka. My guess is he did it on purpose. He said as much during the episode.

Snaieke, looks like you got all your wishes!

And I have to disagree with paul and teitr.

Paul, i really think this is the season arc... every other season has had a similarly apparent arc, and frankly its a great idea and way to accomplish shaking everything up, both relationships and the world around them (not to mention bring back the hot redhead and stark). All this seems too complicated to just reverse on(alsion, joe, henry, and jack all have relationship changes, not to mention whatever else is differnet about time and history), but the shows done it before, so who knows.... oh i saw baltars in a print ad for eureka so i think hes here to stay, not to mention all the ads talking about how this season is shaking things up. I doubt theyd do that for two episodes.

And teitr/paul, I dont think he did it on purpose. He seems to be a very smart man, and would probably get his importance in the time hes in and causal relationships/ramifications (e.g. his town, success and the whole universe might all disappear if he went forward).

Also he could have just taken the phone if he wanted, but chose to give it back to alison.

Finally, jack is the one who left it in the coat, how was he to know it was in there when jack gave it to him, and until hed left or the dance floor was surrounded by soldiers (not to mention it probably weighs about as much as a nickel)?

Plus he was essentially a good guy the whole episode without any real "bad" in him, save the misunderstanding in the beginning... and he was first and only convert, too.

Did anyone see scenes from the next or anything? was it "this season on" or "next week on", cause if its the former we might have an answer to the reversal/two episode thing.

RE: zooey, i bet she is coming back too, as jack said in the first few minutes harvard was just getting out or some nonsense

But Grant was the one that said they needed to switch coats. He may have seen Carter putting it in his coat and since he was flipping out over the technology. He may have been willing to screw over Carter in favor of himself.

It did say next week and showed all sorts of shit blowing up and Henry talking about fixing the space time continum. But I have read this morning that they are doing a "sort of" reboot of the show. So maybe I was wrong. Or maybe they send Grant back but the changes stick.
I don't think he is a bad guy. I just think he was taking the opportunity put in front of him to go to the future.

Oh, yeah. I don't see him as a bad guy either, just eager to see the future.
Man, such a fantastic episode! Loved every second of it! Those final seconds were so heartbreaking! Allison's son is no longer autistic.. How could she possibly want to change back to the past?

Dig the Grant addition, hopefully it isn't wrapped up next episode. BTW, LOVED the Tess return!!!
I enjoyed the first season enough, but the past few seasons have been pleasant background noise for me, nothing more. That said, I was really impressed with this opener, and I hope this arc continues throughout the season.
Missed the first few minutes of this when it aired, and just watched them on Hulu. WTF with having Tess break-up with Carter in 20 seconds as part of the 'previously on' recap? Season 3 ended with Carter with a plane ticket to Australia and on the phone with Alison (presumably about to request vacation time). They couldn't dedicate a full scene of the premiere to the break-up? That's going to bug the shit out of me all season.
Yeah, that was strange. I wasn't sure if it was the last previously, or if it was the first scene of the show. If it was the first scene, it was damn quick. If it was a previously, I don't remember it.
It might have been a sequence they shot last season in case they wanted to write her out, then shelved, then decided to use but had to edit around a dated element (like if his daughter was in the scene).

It confused me at first too, but I just assumed I'd forgotten the scene. With the alternate timeline in play, I'm not going to worry about it.
Great episode. And I was wrong, looks like this is the new status quo.
Excellent... Nice to see them have the balls to shake things up. Now I can only hope that one of the side characters in this new timeline is now secretly an evil bastard to really screw with the main cast.

The show lost something when it stopped having an antagonist in the cast (Henry or Alison's ex).

At any rate, I'm back fully onboard the show for now, as it's already heaps better than it has been in a long time.
I think Grant may prove to be somewhat of a rival for Carter.

And I do think the altered timeline could provide a loophole to bring Stark back. Henry did say that the majority of the changes to the timeline would be right there in Eureka.
I will repeat this again: at its heart, this is a very, very dark show.
Such a great episode. I am so very glad they're keeping the altered timeline and Grant. Hopefully they don't drag this "will he or won't he" crap out with Carter and Tess.

I love that they brought back Android Andy! That is so friggen cool! They are doing no wrong so far.. and I 100% agree this show is dark at it's core. Allison was willing to have not only herself but all of her friends killed to keep from going back to an autistic Kevin...
Yes, this can be a very dark show. When Henry went thru his dark phase, I really liked it. It's a good show for the whimsical and dark elements. I was happy to see Android Andy again, and was really impressed when they had him matter of factly figure out that they went back and changed stuff.

I think it's pretty cool that they really shook things up, but we'll see how long it lasts.
Very disappointed... I'm not thrilled with the Carter \ Allison dynamic..

I liked it. I'm kinda glad they got the Tess story out of the way without Carter telling her what happened. But yeah, just dragging along the Carter/Allison stuff is getting old.

I totally see this season ending with the 6 of them locked up in some bunker, because eventually someone is gonna spill the beans.
I;m just disappointed because Tess is adorable. And Carter is just Alison's consolation prize, which feels kinda empty.

Tess IS adorable!

Well, I'm still not happy that Alison went with Stark.. I think the chemistry between Carter and Alison pretty much died during that whole season and when the show runners brought in Tess it was a nice breath of fresh air into the show and reminded me why I liked the show in the first place.. It was a quirky show with a charismatic lead.

Let's hope they at least don't do a triangle again and just cut to the nitty gritty. In Eureka I trust.

obviously i was wrong about thorne.

Yeah i think stark might not come back and they seem to b e setting thorne up as a love interest for allison.

Some things i would like to see or expect this season:

fargo's assistant will realize hes not the fargo they know and cause shit for the group.

henry will realize (hell he already has) that he and that chick are perfect for each other, and the season will end with them making a date in the restructured timeline or something.

joe will still get together with zane (although actually i still dont think a fargo triangle is out of the question, especially after they were paired for dramatic dialogue (with fargo as the shoulder to cry on, essentially) during the first episode).

there will be at least one more episode where they all go back in time to rectify something, or maybe just by accident or due to to last time they all wen thru... and id love it if they were caught and there was a trial for treason or something while they were simultaneously trying to escape and get back to their time.

the last episode (3rd) was kinda bad imo ... good writing from scene to scene, but the mystery was too apparent, i even dismissed it immediately as the red herring... after the order of those showing symptoms, i thought it was gonna be touching the blue force-shield thingy or something.

I hope they focus more on the changes in the timeline in future episodes, and less on what-went-wrong-with-an-experiment-this-week episodes.

Kind of a "meh" episode right there.

I agree... good enough, but it just feels like they are wasting the season's premise on the typical mysteries, and relegating all timeline changes to character relationships, rather than anything different with the outside world.

I mean I still enjoy the show, just seems like a waste after the first episodes to go back to the "same old" show, essentially.

P.S. Was the implication that somehow henry isnt sleeping in the same bed as his wife a bit strange to anyone?

Also this seasons mysteries have been somewhat obvious ... I have guessed (or even dismissed as overt red herring) the "culprit" or solution in nearly every episode within the first few minutes.... and the last two weeks have been appallingly obvious, imo.
When you have such a series altering event like in the first few episodes, it's hard to go back to the typical "mystery of the week" thing, even though they involved Jo trying to bring out this Zane's good side.
Pretty solid episode altough the crossover was so much mored forced here than it was on Warehouse 13.

The season is totally gonna end with the 5 of them locked up in some bunker because the one seen in the spoilerriffic video above spills the beans.

Not digging the set up for an Alison love triangle. The Alison/Carter stuff is so played out at this point.

Someone has to help me out here:

How old is claudia? I thought she was supposed to be like 15-16, so an episode about pedophilia seemed a bit off to me.....

Also, if they rectify the timelines, does that mean warehouse 13 will disappear along with the rest of that world? ... God I hope so.
The actress is 20.

Her performance did not make me want to try Warehouse 13, that's for sure. I kept wondering if Chloe from Smallville had a younger, more annoying sister...
Warehouse 13 is a bit cookie cutter but otherwise a pretty good show. Claudia doesn't have a huge role.
Ironically, she's one of the less annoying characters on the show. The most annoying characters are the two leads.

The character is 19.

I'm with you on the female lead (myka) but the dude (pete) is ok. Artie is pretty great though.
Hell, I'd prefer if the show was Artie running around collecting artifacts and retro-tasering people while having to deal with Claudia's youthful shenanigans.

If they were to jetison anyone it would have to be Myka and the chick that runs the inn. Gimme Pete, Artie and Claudia and we're good.

I did really like Robin Colchord as Artie's ex partner.
Liked that they amped up the Carter/Grant stuff. But beyond that maybe the worst episode of the season. I totally expected Henry to use that short term memory eraser on his wife.

and the more I think about it, I would have totally been in on a whole season of Carter being trapped in the past and the others trying to get him back.
Beverly's back (and it sounds like the Cabal, too)! And Stark next week!
So they finally get Carter and Alison together and they bring back both Tess AND Stark.

I do like the twist with Beverly showing back up though. And the episode itself was pretty good too.
Oh and am I the only one that caught Zane saying the Department of Defense had plans for a TARDIS among the things he wanted to steal during the hack.
That was a good episode. They really moved all storylines forward and had a fun little "mystery of the week" episode to boot. I'm glad that Breasterly is back. It's about time they found a way to loop in the old cabal. I hope they don't botch how they bring back Stark!
