US Senate to examine Lockerbie bomber release

Politicians in the US will hold a hearing into whether BP lobbied the UK to try to secure the release of the Lockerbie bomber from a Scottish jail.

Didn't the guy die after six weeks or something? Wasn't he terminally ill? I don't see the big deal with this. Of all the reasons to hate big oil, I can't say this is anywhere towards the top of my list

Lets be clear on this one, it wasn't the UK government who let him out it was the SCOTTISH parliment who did the deal. The Uk Gov was against it as I recall but it was a local affair so fell under the remit of the devolved parliment in Scotland.
