What would you do in the wake of a global catastrophe? Even if you survived it, could you survive the aftermath?

Season Two of THE COLONY introduces viewers to a new group of volunteers with differing backgrounds, skills and personalities, to bear witness to how these colonists will survive and rebuild in a world without electricity, running water, government or outside communication. Over the course of 10 episodes, the colonists — who include a construction foreman, teacher, carpenter and auto mechanic — must work to utilize and strengthen their exploration, technology and survival skills in ways they've never had to before. THE COLONY features on-going commentary and input from experts in homeland security, engineering, psychology and the medical community, with expertise and insight into what the future could look like after a biological disaster.

Filmed on 10 acres of abandoned neighborhood on the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, THE COLONY'S simulated environment had been left decimated by Hurricane Katrina, a naturally occurring disaster zone that was slated to be bulldozed and turned into a public park. Empty buildings, weedy streets and the backwoods are all the colonists have to work with as they scavenge essentials for survival from their surroundings while fending off threats such as wild animals and malicious outsiders.

Throughout this season, the colonists face daunting physical and emotional challenges as they attempt to survive in a world void of all the niceties they've ever known, including environmental dangers such as disastrous weather and indigenous wildlife.

THE COLONY begins with the volunteers facing a 72 hour isolation period to psychologically shift their perspective from our modern world to the end of the world. Shortly after the integration into the colony, the threat of survival becomes imminent as hostile outsiders push them into a physical confrontation. How do the colonists respond and will their newfound skills be enough to protect their supplies and lives?

While I enjoyed the first series and am intrigued by this one, I really hope they eventually went ahead with the plan to turn the neighborhood into a park.

I will genuinely miss the Mad Professor because I have my doubts the show can find anybody that likeable and intelligent, but I will tune in with the hopes that this season is as fun and compelling as season 1 was. Discovery really missed their chance at a Mad Professor and the Dumb Monkey show, I'd have watched.

Yeah, John Cohn was awesome on this show. That a lowly reality show managed to snag a true genius of his caliber was pretty amazing.

They really need to bring him back for season two (maybe the new group finds him wandering the wastelands, and he becomes their advisor/mentor/guru/tech guy/all round hobo professor... think about it, Discovery Channel!)

Am I remembering wrong that Season 1 didn't escalate to quickly? Or as much? This looked far more violent then all of last season to me. People wielding metal pipes being sprayed with pepper spray just seems like a recipe for an extra to get brained.

If that was day 2 I have no idea what these poor people are going to look like at day 50. They don't seem to have the brainpower that we saw last season, so I'm expecting a lot more rudimentary survival and less solar motorcycles. It was a riveting opening but this season looks to be dramatically different from last season to me.

Give a raise to the person who felt rotting pig carcasses made for riveting TV.

Looking forward to the alligator.

There's no way that the producers could have assumed they'd render the animal fat to make oil is there? Everything was certainly in place to do so, but it's not a leap in logic a lot of people would make and it's certainly not something you'd expect a lot of people to know how to do.

Okay, I watched the entire season. For the most part it was pretty mediocre, although watching Jim go insane in the last episode nearly made up for it. Hiding in the weeds from "VOPA", catching and eating live lizards, that was some good TV.

General season thoughts:

The two people added late were annoying. I didn't care for them, but thought the way they were "removed" from the show was BS.

Adding Tick at the end boggled me. That guy was literally EXACTLY what the Colony was missing the entire season. Somebody strategic and smart, somebody to keep Jim in line. The episode where he went over their defense plan and you quickly realize that in about 2 days of knowing these people he has each of them pegged exactly made me laugh, and made me sad that so many people in the group were just dense and self-absorbed.

I can't explain why I watched the entire season. It really wasn't 1/2 the show that it was in season 1. There was no single personality who just seemed inherently likeable (at least until Tick and we got him for like 3 episodes).

It ended already? Shit, I was planning on catching up when they did the season marathon thing before the final episode.

LOL. Who decided it was a good idea to give this season an M. Night Shyamalan ending?
