Isreali Court Sets Interesting Precedent In Rape Trial

If we're not allowed to lie how will we ever get laid?!

Seriously though, I take moral issue against what he did, but convicting him of rape is preposterous, disgusting and nothing more than pure racism. It'd make a tiny bit more sense on her part if she were a religious Jew but seeing as she's having pre-marital sex with guys she's just met, she obviously isn't.

So wait, would he still be going to jail if he was an arab but his name really was Daniel?

For fucks sake.

Obtaining sex under false pretenses is rape? Shoot, that would incriminate many an alcohol-fueled hook up. They singled out race, but I wonder if they could extend it to lying about one's employment or education level? The mind boggles.

‘Would he have been convicted of rape? The answer is: of course not.’
There you have it.

How does one get laid without lying exactly?

It doesn't even make much sense. If you're a rapist, why would anyone call on you to defend a court decision which is unjust towards the alleged attacker? Surely you'd be the *last* person on the court's side. I am bamboozled.

Damn, that's right. I forgot I swore off those.

Its racist and retarded. And its bound to be turned over at appeals, no way a decision like this will be upheld, although you never know in Israel.

Mel Gibson's stock just went up a bit, amiright folks?

The question I have pertains to this particular quote from the honorable judge:

Quote:
Judge Segal said: ‘The court is obliged to protect the public interest from sophisticated, smooth-tongued criminals who can deceive innocent victims at an unbearable price – the sanctity of their bodies and souls.
Is the court in Israel an adjunct to the Church in Israel? As far as I was aware, the purpose of the court was to interpret the laws of the land. The sanctity of one's soul really shouldn't figure into it.

ETA: Granted, the Muslim States have the law and religion all entangled and shit. I just never figured that was the case for Israel. Could just be a bit of myopia on my part.

This ruling effectively makes Lot's daughters rapists.

Well they kind of already were. They got their dad drunk before hand, remember? I don't think they ever pretended that they weren't his daughters.

God damn, the bible is dirty.
I thought they got him drunk so he'd think they were his wife.
I don't think folks in the bible look at the warm body next to them before having sex with it.

Jacob had this problem when he was given Leah instead of Rebeka, and he didn't bother to double check who it was before the wedding night.

Back on Topic: If this was a Israeli man and a Palestinian woman we never would have heard a thing.

If she hadn't thought the accused was a Jewish bachelor interested in a serious romantic relationship, she would not have cooperated,' [the judges] added.

And:

After striking up a conversation, the two went into a top-floor room of a nearby office-block and engaged in a sexual encounter

Edit: for some reason I can't used the "quote" option, when I do I get a message saying my post is too short.

Israel blows it again! It's a good thing the judicial systems of the rest of the world are so perfect. I know that here in the USA we've got everything figured out.

What does this have to do with the subject of the thread?

Of course! We should just ignore all injustice in the world until everything everywhere is just fucking perfect! Only then can anyone question Israel! Brilliant!

This ruling does sound similar to certain parts of the American justice system a few decades back when inter-racial couples could be prosecuted - it's just weird to hear a western nation still having this issue.

I couldn't believe when I read this in the article. That load of bull is actually how they tried to justify "rape" in this case. This woman seems both stupid and vindictive. Well, she did cooperate which makes it nowhere near rape.

It actually seems like the precedent set here is that anyone who has sex with her is committing rape, since the only possible justification for the ruling is that she's too stupid to be considered a consenting adult. What he did was wrong, but in no way against the law.
