The Brood on US DVD!

Just when you thought you couldn't spend any more money this August, MGM adds another must-buy to their release schedule.

On August 26th, MGM is releasing Cronenberg's The Brood on DVD. No extras except for a trailer but that's cool with me.

The Brood is still my favorite Cronenberg film - with Dead Ringers a close second - so this news is about as cool as it gets for me.

What's more, even the cover art isn't half-bad.

Check it out at DVD Drive-in.

That is fantastic news! I was just looking on e-bay for the R2 disk and I was wondering when we were going to get ours.

I must re-assert the concept of sending scoops to Ryan or myself before you post them on the board, just in case we miss them or what not. Only the cool thing to do.

Luckily today was an exception, so we got that up in the update. Good stuff!

Second best "eerie killer midget" movie ever.

The first being Phantasm, or am I insane?

Oops! Sorry, man. But I did figure it would be in your morning update anyhow.

I'm guessing you're insane. I think he meant Don't Look Now. Or am I insane?

Actually, I meant Interview With The Vampire.

No, you're right. Nasty midget, plus a sex scene where you almost see it going in!

The midget going in Donald Sutherland during the sex scene ? Damn British censors...

Well damnit, where does Phantasm fall on your "killer midget" all-time list?

The midget in Don't Look Now is actually a dwarf.

The midgets in Phantasm are actually jawas.

Whenever I hear "killer midget", I think of the immortal Luis De Jesus as Ralphus in Bloodsucking Freaks. Not only was he great in that role, he also clocked screen credits in midget 70s porn AND Return of the Jedi. Now how many can say that?
It's actually a fairly shitty movie, like most of Cronenberg's pre-Fly output.

How in Christ's name do you know that?!?

Nah. A lot of Cronenberg's early stuff fails for me, but The Brood is truly the shit. (Note careful use of definite article in previous sentence.)

And Don't Look Now is hardly a "killer dwarf" movie. As any cineaste of taste and discernment will tell you, it is clearly an Eye-talian "psychic killer" movie.

It's a psychic killer movie that just happens to be set in Italy. It was directed by Nic Roeg (not Italian), starred Donald Sutherland (not Italian) and Julie Christie (also not Italian) and produced by Paramount Pictures, hardly qualifying it as "Eye-talian."

It's as much a "killer dwarf" movie as The Brood is (if you think about it).

No, I know--I was just being silly. Actually, for me Don't Look Now is one of those movies that can't be classified like this. It's about a lot of things that can't be summed up or even hinted at in one of these silly little descriptions.

I can't stand Phantasm. Just one of those films that irks me with it's cheap-ass shittiness.

For me that is most of the appeal. I prefer the 2nd one overall.

The IMDB is a wonderful thing.
