I'm sure it'll look very pretty.

Sucker Punch looks like it will be a fun, surreal time at the cinema, featuring a cast of...Bountiful Beauties, that will have alot of male filmgoers leaving theaters in a good state of mind!
Sucker Punch is starting to be something that's going to be on my radar. Sounds pretty damn cool.
Yeah I'll have to wait for footage because those posters and that plot description seem sprung from the mind of a sugar addled 13 year old.
Sebastian OB, Albiet a sugar addled 13 year old, whom also directed great films like...Watchmen and 300! I am sure that Sucker Punch will be as...Awesome as described, and not a mean...Sucker Punch to the gut, of moviegoers everywhere!
Everything I've seen and heard about this film (which, admittedly, isn't an awful lot) makes it sound pretty much my most anticipated movie in forever. I cannot wait to see some footage!
Conceptually it sounds like fun and I assume it's going to be visually oppulent, but my dislike of 300 and growing disdain for Watchmen have got me keeping my expectations in check.

Dudes,

So there's this chick, right? And she's totally fucking hot, right? But like, her dad puts her in an INSANE ASYLUM! So what does she do? She goes into like this, alternate reality, where she's like this badass chick with a samurai sword and she meets all these other babes who wear like leather and shit, and they go all around these like, different dimensions and shit and fight like dragons and mechs and zombies and shit! It's gonna be like ALICE IN WONDERLAND except totally kick ass! And I'm calling it SUCKER PUNCH! Yeah, kewl right? C ya at the movies broseph!

The plot doesn't do much for me either. Sounds like an excuse to justify a lot of very cool imagery and scenarios. From the sound of this footage, though, that sounds like entirely the point. A point that's gonna be vindicated in spades. Hopefully.
I'm not writing this flick off just yet, but pretty much everything I've heard about it thus far leaves me quite cold.
Actually this sounds like something dreamed up by a sixty year old studio exec based on demographic studies. I'm putting my faith in Devin though.

I'm a detractor of Snyder's work but it seems odd to make it so personal.

It's one of the things I've always found odd about message board cultures, how certain directors get vilified for their personalities (Eli Roth, Brett Ratner, Michael Bay, someties Quentin Tarantino) rather than their work.

I'm not a detractor of Snyder, I like WATCHMEN and DAWN OF THE DEAD. And I'm not taking it personal. This just sounds retarded on paper. That's all I'm saying.
Ah right, I just remember a few people getting riled up about Snyder's 'fratboyishness' in the Watchmen threads.

I thought (and still think) Snyder was very, very wrong for WATCHMEN, but honestly, if he's doing his own thing and he does it well, it doesn't matter me what he chooses to do and how he chooses to do it. I can't say I'm excited about this, but I'm curious to see what he does all on his lonesome, i.e., not leaning on a pre-existing property.
I hope the rest of the film lives up to what we've seen so far. I just keep getting this nagging feeling . . . intriguing wacked-out premise, visually interesting director, early geek buzz . . . it just reminds me of the lead-up to Southland Tales.
I think I'm getting subliminal memories of Sky Captain mixed with pieces of all these Japanese movies coming out lately that play well as a trailer, but don't work as a movie (Tokyo Gore Police, Machine Girl). I really want to be excited, but I'm so scared.
Nobody on this planet has made movies that have left me as cold as Snyder's, that's my only issue with him. DAWN OF THE DEAD is by far his best movie, and it's merely ok.

EDIT: oh, and I hate him because he got laid in high school.
Could be a clusterfuck in a good way, or a bad way.

Time will tell. And that bitch ain't talkin' until next March.

Snyder is a skilled director and visual stylist. His talents as a writer however, are unproven. It's way too early to tell, but what I'm getting from this isn't promising.
Hopefully this clusterfuck will be a fun clusterfuck instead of a bloated self-important lifeless clusterfuck. But I have no faith that it will be at all good.

Edit: Looks like Martin Blank beat me to it.
I hope they will release some footage soon. The posters look great.
Getting a Sin City vibe off of this. Let us compare!

Sin City: a beautiful looking movie filled with hot chicks playing out Frank Miller's fetishes.

Sucker Punch: a beautiful looking movie filled with hot chicks playing out nerd fetishes.
So backlashing against Snyder and his work is pretty much the default geek position now huh?

I'm just looking for a fascinating outrageously fun mess of a movie. I get the feeling I won't be disappointed.
I can't wait for this movie. Snyder's 3 for 3 so far. Anyone who disagrees can eat rotten eggs, for all I care. Rotten eggs, I tell ye!
Dudes,

So there's this guy, right? And he's totally fucking hot, right? But like, he puts his totally hot wife in a HOTEL ROOM PRISON! IN HIS MIND! So what does he do? He goes into like this sleep reality to pull off a mind heist! He's like this badass dreamcatcher that can conjure a mindtrain and he assembles like this dream team (one wears a kerchief!), and they go all around these like, different dream levels and shit and fight like snow patrols and zero grav agents from the MATRIX and a zombie aka his dead wife and shit! It's gonna be like DREAMSCAPE except totally kick ass! And I'm calling it INCEPTION: KICK! Yeah, kewl right? C ya at the movies broseph!

And that synopsis still sounds better than "Sucker Punch."
I love all of of Snyder's movies (yes, LOVE), and this sounds like a good time at the theater. Sign me up.
I've either disliked them at the start (Dawn of the Dead) or been sort of lukewarm and grown to really dislike (300, Watchmen) all of his films thusfar. And so far, this really doesn't look like it's in my wheelhouse at all.

However, as always, I'm pulling for the guy if only because of his obviously exceptional visual talent. I'd love for one of this stories and everything surrounding the visuals to finally pull me in.
Wow, nerds are a fickle bunch.

I'm on board.
Depends if Snyder's sorted out the misanthropy that plagues all his previous films. He's so far been a director I almost like.

Being a bit of a misanthrope myself, I don't mind it.

My problems with Snyder are his immaturities. His immaturities, along with the general lack of thoughtfulness, are what hurt WATCHMEN most, and SUCKER PUNCH seems to be a project wholly devoted to them.
The posters really sold me but having heard the premise I'm actually a little less excited for this.

Please let it be good.
Edit: All right, I'll submit it.
I'm pretty sure that is news. I'd take it down and submit it.
This certainly looks like Snyder's stupidest movie yet.
That is technicolor geek jizz with each sperm dressed in bondage gear and playing Tony Iommi riffs while performing cunnilingus on ninja sharks in Pamela Des Barres' pool. On Shutter Island.

I have just transcribed the entire script above. You're welcome.

Seriously, this will very much be a love-it-or-hate-it cult film. May not make diddly in the plexes, but it will play at whatever midnight-movie venues there are left, and the Blu-ray will join Southland Tales and Repo! The Genetic Opera on the shelves of stoners nationwide.
It looks like a live-action anime!
Looks like exactly what I want from Snyder--all flashy visuals, no pesky themes or subtexts lurking underneath.

I know that's kind of a backhanded compliment, but I truly think his last two films have been visual near-masterpieces sunk by ideas that were either fundamentally moronic (300, though I know a fair amount of that can be laid at Frank Miller's doorstep) or were undermined and neutered by his stylistic flourishes (Watchmen).

Here's my Zack Snyder scorecard:

Dawn of the Dead - One of the least obnoxious of the crop of unnecessary remakes; doesn't come close to replacing the Romero original, but a halfway decent zombie flick in and of itself

300 - Two hours of testosteronal belching, but you can't say it wasn't true to the source

Watchmen - About as close as anyone could've come to turning Alan Moore's behemoth into a feature film of reasonable length; doesn't get enough credit for its obvious ambition and passion, and if you think it sucked, check out the Sam Hamm script sometime

Sucker Punch - ? Right now, from what I've seen and learned, I'm in its corner. And it further confirms my view of Warner as the ballsiest, most artist-friendly studio around. I mean, Snyder had clout from his first two films, and you'd think he spent it all on Watchmen, which probably has a few years of DVD/Blu-ray sales to go before Warner sees any profit on it. But no, Warner turns around and hands Snyder $85 million to make this mondo bizarro thing.

When you look at this in light of Inception also being greenlit, Warner Brothers really are putting a lot of faith in their auteurs of late on relatively financially risky yet creatively fascinating original propositions at the moment. Thanks god one studio still is.

I'm pretty much aligned with your take above Martin on each of Snyders movies, the guy is nothing if not fascinating to watch evolve as an artist.

...and I love how many of the haters around here like to sniff at his output as 'juvenile' and then see nothing wrong with spending three pages of a thread discussing whether Thors helmet should have wings or whatever. The irony is crushing.

It's good that we have you Rain Dog to point out what a lie we all live.

...and it's so refreshing to have you around to condescendingly remind us how immature it is to be excited about one geek property over another Eeyore.
That footage has me... ambivalent? I keep hoping I'll come around to Snyder at some point, but maybe it's just not in the cards. Personally, it all feels like too much flash and not enough substance. Or at least, not the kind of substance I'm into.

I'm sure this will play well to more than a few though. It's certainly ambitious visually.
anyone else get a massive vibe of Casshern during that trailer? Not plot wise...but the battle sequences with that sepia toned color and high speed martial arts mixing with mechs...which I frankly dig the hell out of.
Course, Warner is also part of a huge conglomerate. And they've still got two Harry Potters on deck and at least one more Batman flick. They're not hurting. They can absorb an Inception or a Watchmen every year or so.

But this is also the same studio that basically said "Okay, Mr. Kubrick, whatever you want" for the better part of 30 years and let Oliver Stone make JFK and Natural Born Killers. They printed money with the Matrix films, then handed the Wachowskis the keys to Speed Racer, which didn't do as well as they hoped, but love it or hate it, it wasn't like anything else out there. Jonah Hex, again, a smaller gamble that many felt didn't pay off, and definitely tanked in theaters, but what other supernatural western with an anti-hero with a fucked-up face was there this summer? And of course when New Line was a Warner subsidiary it handed some Kiwi geek the keys to an expensive-ass franchise that could've fallen on its ass.

With all that, I don't really care that they're falling behind Marvel in the superhero-film race. Marvel's hustling left and right, getting 6,000 films off the ground and tying them all together; DC had Jonah Hex this year. (Perhaps wisely, they seem to be focusing more on their direct-to-DVD animated features. If they can't have a new Batman film in theaters, they at least have Batman: Under the Red Hood.)

Note: I don't work for Time/Warner or any of its subsidiaries.

Well said, I'll take a Jonah Hex and a screwed up Green Lantern if it gets me an Inception and a Sucker Punch.

Haha, your right this does look a lot like Casshern, but hopefully its not nearly as boring (Won't count on it considering the talent).
