COMIC CON: SUCKER PUNCH - Page 2

Of all the negative things that could be said about Snyder and his films... boring? Really?
Well, 300 got a bit monotonous after a while. But you could still pause the Blu-ray at just about any point, screencap, print it up and frame it.

He meant CASSHERN was boring, which it was.
No, he said he wouldn't count on SUCKER PUNCH being less boring than CASSHERN, considering the talent involved

But yes, CASSHERN is pretty boring

True but I'd argue that was due to Snyders fidelity to the ridiculous source material.

Oh shit, Casshern. That movie was a boring mess. Now I'm skeptical again.

That teaser looks crazy enough to get me to see it. So much awesome imagery. A giant in Samurai armor shooting off a Gatling gun? I'm in.

I've been giving this movie shit but I don't think it'll be boring. I think it'll be stupid.

You are half right, Synder is a great visual stylist. But I had real problems with a lot of the preformances in both 300 and Watchmen, so I have to suspect that Synder has not yet learned how to handle actors. and/or makes too many bad casting choices. Making the heavy in Watchmen so villianous and unlikable from the first scene, when Moore in the novel stresses how well liked he is by almost everybody was a huge mistake. I consider the handling of actors and character a very basic and vital skill by a director, and so far Synder has come up lacking.

I don't think that was Snyder's failure as an actor's director, I think it's a pretty strong indication that he had no interest in balancing the Rorschach/Veidt morality scales as evenly as they exist in Moore's book.

Yeah, but except for Haley, Morgan and maybe Wilson (I'd also toss in Frewer, just because) can you really think of any awesome performances in Watchmen? I'd argue the good performances were there courtesy of the actors and what they brought to the table, while Snyder tried not to fuck their mojo up and concentrated on reproducing the Gunga Diner. Snyder isn't really an actor's director, and that's fine, because he doesn't really make actors' movies. Not every movie is or has to be a Sidney Lumet act-a-thon. Hell, 2001 is probably the worst-acted masterpiece ever made.

I've really enjoyed reading all the posts here.

I really loved SUCKER PUNCH, and I wrote up an article defending it (it's me vs. movie critic Nick Allen), please check it out here, if you're interested:
