Comic-Con 2010 Cosplay Pics Thread

I'm gonna be honest, I'm making this thread just because of this image I found while listlessly looking at nerd bait pics:

This girl went to Comic-Con as the Mime from Alejandro Jodorowsky's Santa Sangre. My mind is BLOWN.

Here's some half naked girl for the rest of you:

Wow, maybe it's the lighting, but that second girl looks like she had her chest worked on by Hasbro.

Still... Totally would. Thrice.

I find cosplay wonderfully fascinating an utterly hilarious personally, as it's something I have no real frame of reference for outside of reading and watching things about cons in the last few years.

It's the more offbeat, random ones I dig too...

Some faves I've come across...

Heh.

This one I sorta have to love on general principle being the Venture Bros fan that I am.

Not only is this guy barely trying (isn't just buying one big costume considered cheating or something? Ditto for this guy?), I love that he looks like he knows it too.

Do cosplayers often come as takeaway brand icons?

...and while we're at it, I thought Devin was there only in an official journalistic capacity?

And when you get this many Dr. Girlfriends together without any other context they just look like a bunch of Jackie Os
post #5 of 85
there was this one girl dressed up as Morrigan from darkstalkers i had seen while walking the floor. if there was only one picture i would have taken during the whole con, it would have been her.
It's weird. When a guy dresses up for events like this I find it intolerably geeky. When a girl does, I find it absolutely adorable.

Girls are better at picking cosplay outfits that suit their body shapes. Look at the contrast between Fatman and the pink gals (who I seriously thought were a pack of Jackie Os until Gabe's commentary). Nuff said.
Cosplay I think is as much of a labor of love as any other fan activity (fiction, art, adopting quotes from films into lexicon, etc). I've done it, will continue to do it, and there is something inherently thrilling about paying home to something you enjoy, and people taking your picture for it.

And, well, it acts like a shield of sorts. And I have to admit, most guys who cosplay tend to halfass it way more than chicks do.

You can see my old cosplay costumes on my Facebook, but I have so many more planned...Oh yes, so many planned...

I want the Santa Sangre girl to make me an El Topo outfit. I will supply my own beard, and I already have an afro wig. I will wear it everywhere and every day.

Edit: Also, if someone makes it for me, I'd make a killer #24. I can do the voice perfectly. I have a portly friend that could pull off 21 if he shaved.

...I was too busy admiring 'wee-Mario', to be entertained by the Grouch.
Can we get this Green Hornet movie instead?

This made the rounds on twitter during Comic-Con (link is SFW):

I had no idea that Tom Hanks was there.

The mime from Santa Sangre? What. The. Fuck.

This is so weird it actually fits on a meta level.

This!

I always thought if they were going to revive and modernize the Green Hornet franchise, they should have converted the two leads to women.

They wouldn't even have to change GH's real name, since it's Britt Reid.

Just get a hot martial artist babe for Kato, and you're all set.

This new 'Green Hornette' would be a descendant of the original, giving it a Phantom vibe...

Oh well.

A friend of mine and I recently had an idea: Inception cosplay. Just dress in really nice suits, head to the most crowded part of a con, lay on the floor and just fucking go to sleep.
There's also a pic of someone dressed up as the cat nun from Tennant's first regular season Dr. Who episode. That caught me by surprise.

Also surprised how far down I had to scroll to find anyone dressed as characters from Kick Ass. I thought I'd be awash in Hit Girls long before then.

G4 interviewed what was likely the same girl during their Con coverage. She spent the entire interview tugging nervously on her costume to make sure her nipples remained covered.
I cant stop laughing at this one....its that awesome:

And this might be that Morrigan cosplayer:

last, an adorable one:

They totally should have gone Frog of Thunder with that kid, he's the perfect size.

I want to marry this girl.

There were waaaay too many Burton Mad Hatters and Queens of Hearts this year. Those were the ones I saw the most of. They were this year's Heath Ledger Joker.

I think it would have worked better than what we have coming down the road right now....

But we could have had Nathan Fillion instead of a stoner for the title role, and that would have been good too.

that is her. here is a better pic. this one you can see the contacts she is wearing and if they are not contacts, even better. which is what pretty much sealed the deal for me. she was pulling on her costume after every pic. the angle i had i think i could have seen something as she was a short one but i decided against it.
Those contacts are scaring the living shit out of me. Excuse me while I go spend an hour in the men's room trying to convince my vagina to transform back into a penis.
The thing that gets me is gets me is that anime is so ubiquitous that people will still refer to the practice as "cosplay" even if these are mostly Western characters being represented. They can't call it "dressing up as people from funny books" or "nerd Mardi Gras" or something less oblique.

Am I wrong in assuming that 'cosplay' just means 'costumed play'? I didn't think it was specific to anime.
None of these seem particularly impressive. I've seen photos of better costumes from previous Comi-Cons. Perhaps that can be chalked up to the broader main stream audience that the event seems to be attracting.. I don't know.

Well, to help your research, here is a collection of 850 costumes from the 2010 CC.

Dude, that Santa Sangre costume could be a piece of crap, but it would still be a SANTA SANGRE COSTUME. Sometimes it's the thought and originality that counts.

Also there are a lot of dudes in this thread posting sexy girls, feel free to post some of the more impressive ones. Here's a big old pile of images to cull: http://www.tested.com/news/the-comic...-costumes/594/

Exactly. What more should she have done? She looks perfect, and it's such a cool look to boot, for a very niche character.

This guy also wins points for originality. And for making me laugh.

Haha, thanks, Z

I was making my judgment based on what people thought was post worthy in the 2010 CC-CP thread. I did not look at close to 1000 costumes before making my determination

Here's what Adrianne Curry wore over the weekend.

i normally don't care for the sexy girl type of cosplay. i would love to see a zero suit samus only because she wouldn't be showing a whole lot of skin (even though it is a form fitting body suit) or a Leia dressed as Boushh or even an ESB Leia with her snow suit on. a couple of years ago i saw a female boba fett with her helmet off, i thought that was pretty cool.

the green hornet girls are sexy but i like the one on the left because she is sporting a jacket. i also would like to see female mech pilots. i am sure they are around, i just didn't see any. i am a "less is more" type of guy when it comes to showing skin. granted, the pics i posted don't validate that, its just that i was thoroughly impressed with what i saw. sure the costume might be "mainstream" its the contacts that i loved the most.

Yea, colored contacts freak me out too. This is so much better... the baby holding the Coors, I mean.
There was a good boushh this year (plough through the link above) not a bad crop of costumes, personally i liked the AIM scientists.

I suppose it isn't anymore but the term certainly came from anime fans.

Every once in awhile when I'm on nerdy message boards, I'll see someone use a phrase like hikikomori to refer to themselves even though they aren't Japanese. I always wonder why they didn't just say "shut-in".

Just a pet peeve.
Because hikikomori sounds BADASS!?

Mass Effect 2 gets cosplayed on stage

Rather great costumes, but i agree that fake color contact freak me out as well.

That's the worst thing ever.
