Keep him in your thoughts

My old man is some really bad shape. He was fixing the roof, when the ladder gave out, having him fall 30+ feet onto the ground. He's got internal bleeding, brian bleeding, and limited lung capacity. But somehow, no broken bones?

He works at great heights for a liviing, crazy how something as simple as tearing of some shingles could cause this.
Will do.
I'm sorry to hear this Nick, weird how such a fall wont break a bone yet damage everything else. I hope for only the best for your father and family.
Best wishes for you and your old man, Nick.
That's a tough deal to go through Nick. My old man works construction too, as do I and two of my brothers, and this kind of thing is always at the back of my mind. I wish you and him all the best.
I'm wishing him well man, as well as the rest of your family. Things like this are always rough.
Damn. Wishing him well.
So sorry, Nick. This is terrible news. I hope your pop has a speedy recovery.

thing that freaks me out, is my Grandfather died from a fall last year, he just tripped on some ice. He was fine, and awake for 4 hours afterwards, then he had a seizure, and went into a coma due to his brain bleeding. Sad part, he was in the ER waiting room the whole time.
Jesus, man...I'm so sorry to hear that. At the risk of sounding insensitive, I know what's it like to lose a dad, so I really hope things turn out okay in this situation. I'm not a praying man, but I'll keep hoping for the best for you and your family.
Yeah, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Nick.
That's terrible to hear, Nick. I hope your Dad gets better.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, compadre.
Nothing but love from me over here man, best wishes to your dad.

Also hope you are doing ok, this sort of thing is a real killer on the family as well.
My sincerest condolences to the hardships you're currently having to deal with. I wish you, your dad and your family the very best of outcomes through this difficult period.
My genuine best wishes to your dad, but with all due respect: why are you on the internet and not with him at the moment?

I'm at work.....
I'd ask to leave early, from what you've described to us.
My thoughts go out to you (and your father), Nick P. We should have some sort of legislation about safety harnesses and belay systems in place to confront this kind of thing. No one should be required to work in an environment where the smallest misstep could result in such peril

He was fixing his own roof. . .

As I said earlier, Nick, wishing you and yours the best. Keep on keeping on, man.

It happened yesterday... ICU all night for me, went to work late today. Had to get some stuff done that coldn't wait, or atleast that's what I was told.
Honestly, I'm pissed off that my work couldn't understand the severity of my dad's condition. I'm leaving in 20 minutes, and probably going to be there the whole night again... sucks big time. Thank god my old man is a big guy.... Doctors said the fact that he survived is a miracle. Let alone, no broken bones or collapsed lungs. He has alot of blood in his lungs from bruising that is requiring him to get help breathing.

no, he was working on his own roof. His normal job requires him to go to extreme hieghts, on top of 20+ stroy buildings, hanging off the side. Nothing has ever happened to him doing that.

When my nan was dying last year I found keeping busy untill we knew anything was actually the best thing to do.

That's not to say I think the worst in your case just trying to offer some (hopefully) good advice.

The fact that the circumstances were relatively innocuous when compared to his day job must make this even worse. Again, my thoughts are with you.

no, your right, it is. There is really nothing I can do for him, it's in his body, and doctors hands right now.

Me and him used to work for the same company untill i was laid off, and I tell you, after talking to them today, i'm so glad I don't work there. talk about being cold cold cold. HR never even asked how he was doing?
it's a 120 person company, so everyone knows everyone too... just breathe... just breathe

I'm confident tho that he will pull threw. This is a guy who broke his arm in two spots, and went back to work the next day. he also took a line drive to the head at little league practice, and went to work the next day with a cracked orbital. he is the defintion of tough... and hard headed... lol
post #26 of 45
That's ridiculous. Geez, my father used to work for a company with about the same amount of people that generally couldn't stand each other but they would still pay attention and help out if someone was hurt or in need.

Glad you were there for him. Keep doing what you're doing, regardless of how positive the prognosis may sound at times. I don't regret being there for my granddad when he died, despite the fact that my school went batshit because I was gone for a week (Sorry that my father figure died from fucking cancer while I was holding his hand when I was 17 years old, guys, that's kinda traumatizing). Not trying to be morbid or anything like that, I just keep noticing this pattern of people regretting inaction rather than action, and I can understand, and I don't think anyone should have to deal with that level of regret.

I'd tell my boss where to stick it if they tried to tell me I had to come in to work while my dad was in the hospital.
Nick, I'm guessing you are with your dad right now. Still thinking of you guys.
My thoughts are with you and your Dad Nick.

Ladders are a hell of a thing. I'd wager a large percentage of household accidents happen due to ladders. When are they going to get those antigravity belts like they had on the Jetsons?

Oh, and good luck to your dad.

Oh I totally agree, when we knew my nan was in her final hours I really regret that my parents didn't call me till after she had died. What I was driving at is in cases like this there is normally a period where nothing actually happens and sometimes it's better to keep yourself busy than sit around in a cold sterile hospital.

Sending good thoughts your way Nick.

Best wishes from Bolivia for you and your dad.
That's really rough Nick, I hope everything turns out all right for your Father. You guys are in my thoughts.
Joining the well-wishers, my thoughts are with you and your family, Nick. I'm not a praying man, so I will just hope for the best.
Good mojo winging its way to you and yours, bud. Hope things work out well for your dad.
Having been in a position close to yours a couple of times I know how numbingly horrible everything feels right now. Hang in there, Nick.

Possibly had an epidural bleed, usually associated with lucid intervals.

That said, things can shift in the body and rupture things, thus the internal bleeding.

Really I do hope things get better.

Things are looking better. Brain bleeding is stopped, and his lungs are looking better, same with the bleeding inside.

He's talking, and joking around already, which is good
he looked at me, and said "get your ass to work", lol......
Great to hear.
Ditto. Thanks for the update.

Nice one Nick.

Nick I mistakenly thought I'd read the most recent posts to this thread and had been awaiting word on your father's condition. It turns out you'd already updated us as to his status.

Just wanted to chime in and say that I'm glad to hear things seem to have turned out for the best

^thanks... he's back at work, and 100% again. He was back at work 1 week after the fall. Old school guy forsure.. world needs more like him.

His injury did put things in perspective for me, and esspecially my mom. My dad should be dead basically. It's a miracle he survived, and wonder of science that he didn't even break anything. Now, I post a thread on a movie board, and our family gets 30 well wishes from complete strangers, truely inspirational... Now, half of our family, like my cousins, who grew up with me, who my father was almost like a second dad to them... coudn't even pick up a phone to call and find out his condition... not one "how's he doing?"... to say that pisses me off, is an understatement. I just don't understand some people. How hard is it to even fucking text message.

My one cousin, who has been on vacation with us, is the godfather to my littlest brother, and has spent almost every holiday with us untill a few years ago.. couldn't even text me about his condition. But he can email my mom and say "hey, we are bringing my son over to grandmas sometime soon, you should stop by". Doesn't even ask how my dad is. I even left him a voicemail when it happened, to which none of us got a reply. the same goes for about 4 of my other cousins.

Also, my old man's work (where I used to work too) couldn't even send him a "get well soon" card, cause it was against "company policy"...

people make me fucking sick.....
