"Charles Bronson" admits to sex with men

Tom Hardy
Quote:
Of course I have. I'm an actor for f*ck's sake. I've played with everything and everyone. I love the form and the physicality, but now that I'm in my thirties, it doesn't do it for me. I'm done experimenting but there's plenty of stuff in a relationship with another man, especially gay men, that I need in my life. A lot of gay men get my thing for shoes. I have definite feminine qualities and a lot of gay men are incredibly masculine. A lot of people say I seem masculine, but I don't feel it. I feel intrinsically feminine. I'd love to be one of the boys but I always felt a bit on the outside. Maybe my masculine qualities come from overcompensating because I'm not one of the boys.
Very shocking admission seeing as he is a huge actor on the rise. Granted he's not saying he's gay but I can't see Jake Gyllenhaal, Pattenson, or any of other actor with gay/bisexual rumors coming out.

Should be interesting if this subject gets addressed in tv interviews.

With a pic like that how would anyone think gay?
Jesus. Either a giant leap forward for LGBT acceptance, or career suicide.
I'm rooting for ya, Hardy.
I feel like it goes more towards the prejudice/misconception that all actors are a buncha 'fruits', if you were to really read what he said.

"An actor for cryin' out loud!!"
I read that as he aint afraid of portraying any or anyone and be convincing at it. I really like this guy.

I think what might help Hardy versus those guys is that dudes love him. In fact, most girls I know don't even know who he is (yet). Since guys already like him, this will be water under the bridge (hopefully), whereas a lot of guys seem to WANT Jake or Pattenson to turn out to be gay for some reason.
Everytime I hear a little more about Tom Hardy, I swoon and/or squeal just a bit. I'm officially a fangirl now. And fuck, if that's his picture....I got a folder for that...
Tom has that Ewan McGregor swagger I've always admired, plus he's also a flat out beautiful specimen. The movie screen loves him.
Whoa, cool for him! Totally hope his career survives, as people have mentioned, it would be a step forward. I've been a fan of his since Layercake (though I didn't really care for him in ST:N to be honest), and I hope he continues to be cast in movies after this

Re: People who wish Pattenson would turn out to be gay

I assume most of this is about how much it would freak out mormom Twilight fans. Because it really would be sort of hilarious.
Is this really that much of a career killer these days? Really?

Eh, Hardy doesn't strike me as wanting to become a Worthington-style MovieStarBot 3000™ anyway. Maybe he just doesn't give a shit - and more power to him I say. How wonderfully refreshing.

As if I didn't love the guy enough as it was.

Unfortunately in America, we have all sorts of religious types who would have a fit over an openly gay (or whatever) movie star. They are not the majority of the population, but they'd throw a public fit if Hardy ever got cast in some big budget role where they didn't approve of his presence. Their reaction would get press, and that story would probably dominate all the press for the film he was in. Less reactionary yet still homophobic types would then stay away

That's kind of how I see this playing out. Not everywhere in America, but in plenty of places. The whole Tea Party thing has really discouraged me when it comes to how how much progress we have or have not made on some of the major civil rights issues, and shown me a side of America that is remarkably vile
post #12 of 76
...if he ever got a big budget role? He's already cast as Mad Max for two big budget movies.
I don't know about that, Rain Dog. I mean, he's going to be the face of the new Mad Max franchise by all accounts, so there is the possibility that this admission causes some speed-bumps. I personally am rooting for the guy. Good for him. Hopefully his star continues to rise.
This will likely only be an issue should Hardy try to take on a lead 'hero' role in some major Hollywood production. But as long as he finds joy in taking interesting roles in risky movies that allow him to stretch his legs, I don't see it being a problem. I can see him having a career like Ewan Macgregor, who's already been mentioned.

EDIT: Oh... Mad Max...
Damnit, Doc Phibes beat me to the punch.
Totally forgot about Mad Max. That's kind of funny, given Gibson's stated position on "the gays".

Anyway, I stand by my prediction that closer to the release of MAD MAX this could become a huge problem for the film. Obviously I hope I am proven wrong on that count
post #17 of 76
It doesn't matter to me one way or another but i've been a fan since Bronson and really loved him in Inception.

I wish the guy the best and I doubt a man of his skills can be hurt by this. Ian McKellen is doing just fine.
I was thinking about how this applies to Ian McKellen. My theory is that 'people' have less of a 'problem' with the sexuality of an actor the older they are. I base that on nothing really. Just a thought.

Whatever happened with that story about Daniel Craig seen kissing a man? Was there any fallout over that? Or did MGM/UA's failure to get another movie going make that a non-issue?

Ian McKellen is 70+ years old and didn't come out in his 20's/early 30's. His roles don't require women to want to date/fuck him.

I don't see this guy wanting to do romantic comedies but it could hurt him. I don't think he's big enough for this to make tabloid headlines or on mainstream news, but if he did get there it would.

I just think it could be an interesting test case if it gets major press.
More power to him. He's one of my favourites right now.
Look after he goes huge in Max, I really don't see this being a problem. The homophobic knuckle-draggers who will want to love the guy afterwards will simply point to his having a kid and being married to prove (to themselves mostly) that he's 'not really' gay anyway and it's okay to be a fan. He's hardly Rupert Everitt.
Not a movie guy per se, but I don't think that Neil Patrick Harris coming out has hurt his career really.

Admittedly, it wasn't during his Doogie days.

I think the fact that immediately before he came out, Harris shot back into the public eye with his cameo in HAKGTW (where he portrayed a hyper hetrosexual version of himself) makes his a rather unique case

I think people found that Harris funny, and so they were willing to accept him in a similar role in HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER even though they knew his private life was different

Otherwise, what has he been in? Roles where his coming out really would not have tarnished his appeal otherwise (Broadway, ETC)
Good for him. I hope it doesn't bite him in the ass though.
Glad to see him manning up with it. Wish him the best. Mostly because I'd bone him, and I'm not even gay or bi.
Hey Jake, could you get a Tom Hardy mask? kthx.
I'm glad the guy said what he said how he said it. No big reveal or posturing. Just discussing it the same way he'd discuss anything else. I think that's the most important thing with this. It's not a big deal and he addressed it in that way.
it seems the quote making the rounds is actually a bit of copy and pasting from an interview done with attitude magazine in 2009 for his turn as handsome bob in rocknrolla. attitude being a gay magazine and handsome bob being a gay character in that film, which is why the questions were leaning in that direction.

someone on the imdb boards posted the full transcript which reads a lot clearer. it basically boils down to him experimenting when he was young and loving the male form and physicality but not being interested at all in gay sex. i can post the full interview here if anyone's interested.
For a second there I thought someone found some old Charles "Death Wish" Bronson interview or that his zombie was demanding gay sex.

The older a person is, the easier it is to desexualize their preferences. McKellen is just some sweet old man with a boyfriend, a younger actor coming out sets off "EW BUTTSECKS?" alarms in people.

That's how I read it and I already thought he was gay. I guess it's being made a minor deal of right now because he's right on the edge of a big career jump.

Sounds like he had some questions about his sexuality and went out there and answered them for himself.

Can't wait for his turn as Max.

So did I, although without the Zombies.

I think Mr Policeman should have a look into that.

Rain Dog might have first dibs, Jake.

This will give extra verisimilitude to my 17-part Eames/Arthur slashfic.

I think, scientifically speaking, that photo is gayer than 500 Rupert Everetts.

Like I said, ballsy move. Hope the public doesn't gag on this news, and that it doesn't bite him in the ass.
I don't think the people who would be "offended" by this saw INCEPTION anyway.
I didn't find the Attitude article, but according to this article, he said

Quote:
So has he ever had any gay flings? “As a boy? Of course I have. I’m an actor for fuck’s sake. I’m an artist. I’ve played with everything and everyone,” he tantalisingly told Attitude magazine before going on to disappoint his queer fans.

“But I’m not into men sexually. I love the form and the physicality but the gay sex bit does nothing for me. In the same way as a wet vagina would turn someone else into a lemon sucking freak. To me it just doesn’t compute now I’m into my 30s and it doesn’t do it for me and I’m done experimenting.”

So has he gone all the way in his queer phase? “Not all but I can imagine. We’ve all got an arsehole and I can imagine. It just doesn’t do it for me, sex with another man. But there’s plenty of stuff in a relationship with another man, especially gay men that I need in my life. A lot of gay men get my thing for shoes. I don’t think I’m metrosexual but I’m definitely my mother’s son. I have definite feminine qualities and lot of gay men are incredibly masculine.”

Sorry, shoe thing? What’s that about? “It’s a fetish. I Love classic, elegant women’s shoes. I find them incredibly sexy,” he told Attitude.

I must admit, both my Hardy and Fassbender man-crushs have reached new levels of intensity of late.

Yeah but how does it stack up against that picture of The Duke with ladies slip on shoes and a handbag?

HEH.
I'm reminded of the scene in BRONSON when he berates his hostage for rubbing guard-lube on his ass.

How long till we get a thread like this in Gossip for Diesel?
Everyone knows Diesel is gay. It's non-news.

Just to toy with your heart a little bit, Rain Dog. This incident involving Fassbender, quietly went away.

Yeah, Diesel's super-gay.

This is getting way too much play and I suspect he's going to feel pressure to "clarify" his statements in the not-too-distant future.

I never heard of this guy until his turn as Handsome Bob the ladykiller, then heard about his turn in Bronson where he got bloody huge and now Inception and Mad Max in the future. Yeah his star's on the rise. I think a cool quality of an actor is always never to take himself too seriously, I just hope the cat's sexual queerness wont be the thing that the public define him as an actor.
