How Many DVDs Do You Own? - Page 2

I'm well over 400 at this point, and that's with a very extended layoff during the uncertainty of the format changeover.

It's a good collection. I could definitely trim some of the fat, I remember when I used to walk into a borders or a best buy and walk about with 5-7 DVDs at about 8 bucks each... movies that maybe aren't worth "owning". But that was in my crazier collector days.

The only real collecting I'm doing now is owning every Criterion blu-ray. When I got into DVDs they were too far gone for me to catch up, and many were OOP.

I'm far less willing to do audio commentary anymore, but the special features always get watched on anything I buy. Always.

Somewhere around 1,200...i haven't done a big count in a while. Kicker is they are in zero order. I've moved three times in three years, and with all the packing & unpacking, i've just started tosing them on my shelves, hoping to get back to it "later". I've lived in my current place a year and shit's still all jumbled.

Somewhere north of 1000. At some point I stopped keeping track on DVDaf.

Course, that comes from 12 years (and counting) of haunting unlikely places for cheap used DVDs. Latest score: the OOP Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould at a consignment shop for three whole dollars. (It goes for anywhere from $129 to 189 used on Amazon.com.) Pawn shops and consignment shops are the best for OOP hunting, because the people unloading DVDs in those joints don't know or care what the discs might really be worth and the folks who run the places generally only care about the worth of stuff like jewelry. And in theory, the discs you're buying should actually be in playable condition; yard sale/garage sale finds can't always guarantee that.

Lately I've been doing the swapadvd.com thing.

I just finished a rough sorting of all of my DVDs. Lots of stuff that's gone missing over the years, but at the moment my count is at:

47 blu-rays (I didn't even realize I'd bought that many already...)

329 DVDs on a rough count. And I realized that I wish I didn't spend so much money on DVDs over the years... But as Locke would say, I needed that pain to get where I am now. Hehehe. I can't even imagine the insanity of some of the collections I'm seeing in this thread.

I really want to sell a bunch of this stuff. I should have a garage sale or something soon.

About 140, counting my Hitchcock and Mel Brooks box sets. There's a pawn shop that just opened in the area with an "8 for 20" deal, so I'll be checking that out every couple of months.

RE PATRICK: That's funny you mentioning the Apatow thing because that's the last special feature I remember watching. I sometimes graze the stuff on Criterion DVDs but I mostly have used single-disc editions. When it comes to Criterion, the single-disc affairs usually entail (1) commentary with someone not associated (which doesn't interest me) or (2) artifact stuff like promo reels.

I like watching set design footage and auditions. I liked watching the Nostromo ship be built or Atlantis for 007; it's not limited to geekery, that's just usually where elaborate production takes place.

Auditions are interesting for me because I wanted to be an actor for a long time so I'm curious how the best do it. [unrelated] I'm shooting a reel for a friend of mine who will be auditioning for SNL sometime next month and that's kind of exciting. [/unrelated] The Apatow movies have great stuff in that department.

I watch all special features. I want my money's worth.

If it's a movie I love or a movie I just want to know more about, I'll watch the special features. Criterion's are a must.
But I watched Jeepers Creepers 2 today and there's no way I can bring myself to listen to Mr. Salva and Cast go on about their work. There has to be some limits.

the only special features I make sure to watch anymore are deleted scenes, unless there's someone I really want to hear on the commentary track or a particularly interesting doccie (such as the Hamster Factor on the 12 MONKEYS DVD).

At last count, something like 380 to 400, but it's been awhile since I bothered.

This thread made me catalogue my collection, so I spent all this afternoon on DVD Afficinado whilst I watched Season 5 of Sopranos.

Apparently I own 544 sperate titles, of which about 80 of them are Blu Rays. I also ended up finding I'd doubled up on about 40 titles. I don't know whether to just devote a part of my home to showing off the collection, I stored 80% of them in a closed wardrobe in my room, or to start pruning.

Somewhere between 4,000 and 4,500. Not including Blu-rays. Or porn.

I still alphabetize them but I've given up cataloguing them. I do have to admit, I'm sure quite a few hundred of them still haven't been opened yet. But I'll get to them. Someday.

Around 700, but some are double dips that need to be donated. I have them out on shelves (you can go look in the CHewer Shrine thread if you're curious) because I like to browse them that way, and I think of it as a lending library for visitors.

Movie Collector tells me I have 1759 DVDs and Blu-rays, but that's not counting TV and Music Concerts. Have to admit that I have many unseen films in my collection, but that's mostly because it's not really possible to rent discs here (and we don't have services like Hulu), so I make sure I always have something to watch at home.

Mind you that is counting box sets as one dvd so it's proabaly closer to 300.

Blue Ray wise I own 10, side question does anyone else only buy the Bue Ray discs that come with a digital copy and a DVD copy as well? I think if I'm going to pay nearly £20 its worth doing that.
I'm on 150+. 19 Blu-rays. For the majority of DVD's existence, I've treated it the way I find I'm beginning to treat Blu-ray: a treat of some description. Something reserved for films and TV shows I hope to revisit a lot. I've relaxed this a little bit, at times, but by and large I've not bought DVD's like drinks because I'm trying to divide a finite amount of money between several interests and it can only go so far.

Essentially, the ratio of films I want to see to the ones I want to own in some capacity leans in favour of the former. Win me over with a nice extras package and we'll talk, but liking something doesn't make a purchase a forgone conclusion. I wouldn't know how to finance buying every film or TV show I'd like to own.

Why not? If you've got an edition with bonus content and you like the film, I see no reason not to.

That's amazing. Not the first one in here either (and I don't mean this in a bad way.)

350-380. My DVDs are spread throughout the house -- living room, movie room, closets, etc..
