They made her an offer she couldn't refuse.

Please let her sing Taco Flavoured Kisses on the season finale...

There was a time where this woman's face and name were inescapable. Now, she's pretty much irrelevant in today's celebrity world. Her movie came and went earlier this year with no one noticing and she was dropped by her record label. Tabloids don't cover her anymore. Paparazzi don't bother to chase her around anymore. It's this or Dancing With The Stars, basically.
Couldn't she just hook up with a director like Soderbergh again and try and actually, I dunno, act well in a decent movie? Hell it worked for her career the first time round.

Cruel as it is to say, she wasn't 41 years old and overexposed as all get out the first time around.
Nah not cruel. I'd say more 'firm but fair'.
She's Puerto Rican, not Mexican.
This is a step sideways. She sings and dances worse than Ellen, but better than Paula Abdul.
Seriously, Idol's death-clock has got to be ticking closer and closer to the red these days. Are ratings still going to be high now that both Abdul and Cowell have split? No one gives a fuck anymore about Lopez and Isaac.
There seems to be a sliver of hope with the old producer coming back, but what they need more than new judges is a new attitude towards picking contestants. The lack of compelling and interesting singers is what killed last season.
I'm not an AI fan - at least not in the usual sense. I try to watch the auditions, and loved Cowell. But once the main competition started, I tuned out. Endless commercials, covers of songs I mostly hate, and Seacrest...no thanks. The freak show aspect of the auditions was great train-wreck viewing for me, especially with Cowell's willingness to crush the dreams of the talentless.

Isaak and Lopez do not, IMNSHO, bode well for the show remaining fun to watch. He's a genuine talent, but unless he has a hidden flare for snark and delivering objective assessments, I can't imagine him being someone I'd like to see in the judges seat.

And Lopez? Ugh. Bland. Agreed that she needs to seek out Soderbergh or someone similar to revive a film career.
The problem with Lopez is that I don't think she ever wanted to be a serious actress, she wanted to be a brand, obviously not preparing herself for the day when, as a brand, she found herself out of fashion.

She made a shit-ton of money, sure, but as far as longevity is concerned, she stand tall as a lesson in doing it wrong.
It's not like Paula Abdul was a going concern when she started on Idol. J-Lo has more name recognition now than Abdul did ten years ago.

Not that it's at all reliable, but the Wikipedia entry for American Idol lists Steven Tyler as a judge.

As an ex-FlyGirl, DWTS would be a better use of her talent. Plus when my wife makes me sit through it with her, I can watch JLo shake her "bon-bon".

Damn, Idol is cleaning house: Kara DioGuardi fired as a judge.

Who?
4 judge has been stupid since they went that route. I like Ellen but she was utterly useless on this show. She brought nothing to the table in any way, shape or form. Kara was always meh. It seemed like the last year or two was more around making Kara look halfway decent than making a good show. Glad I stopped watching.
I read somewhere that the reason they started having Ellen always comment after Randy was because when they had her go first, she was at a complete loss as to what to say. She just didn't have the musical knowledge to give good criticism and the heart to tell someone they were bad. So they stuck her after Randy, where she would usually just say exactly what he did in a slightly different way.
The real problem is a lot of people..including me...watched because we liked Cowell's nastiness and his bluntness about the talent..or lack thereof..of some of the contestent.s I don't think J Lo brings that to the table. People will tune in out of curiosity, but my betting is that after an intial period, the abscence of Cowell will hurt the show badly.
Thing is, the audiences who showed up to lustily boo at Simon probably drained his enthusiasm for the whole thing. Because they usually booed the loudest when he was the most right. You could just tell last season he didn't want to bother having his every word drowned out by a bunch of idiots who didn't know any better.
The idea of Steven Tyler as an AI judge is pretty awesome. He'll probably end up being a lot nicer than I'd want him, but he also brings tons of experience and credibility to his comments.

Aaaaand she's out. Apparently, her demands got out of hand.
What sort of demands could they be? What kind of demands would FOX be unprepared to meet? Any word? I read that article earlier today and it provided zero clues...

Separate trailer for her ass, maybe?

I just imagined Lopez coming over your place to retrieve her ass and grilling you on exactly what those white stains are.

Here's her rider from when she filmed a charity video back in 2001. And that was for being on set for about 90 minutes. Imagine what she'd want for doing a full season of AI.

She's virtually gone from the mainstream but does she remain important in the Latin American celebrity sphere?

I remember going to Miami a few years back and being astonished at the level of celebrity enjoyed by Gloria Estefan. Her star hadn't shone globally for decades, but she seemed to be Queen of Miami and the Spanish/Mexican/Latin American celebrity castle.

Perhaps J-Lo enjoys a similar prestige in that demographic?

That list is absurd, especially considering the amount of time that she would be on set. She's not going to eat all of that food or listen to all of those CDs.

It says "assortment"... she's giving them a list to pick from and there has to be more then one CD from that group of artists...

It's a really nice list to be honest and all that food is not only for her but her entourage. She asked for a make up station and a wardrobe rack which means she'll be bringing in people to make her look good for the camera, do her hair and put her in a designer dress that was probably donated.

I just don't understand why her entourage couldn't bring their own food. She was only there for 90 minutes.
See guys, that stuff was just for the dozens of people in her entourage. She wasn't being outrageously demanding after all.

We were. In our hearts.

I wonder if the more they considered it, the more Fox Decided that Lopez was not a good fit for the show, and are using her demands as an excuse.
IMHO, they need to have somebody who is going to be "The Bad Cop" as a Cowell replacement.

I never saw Cowell as the bad cop. He was the honest voice of the public who watches the show. They need someone who will be frank and honest with the singers and tell them "that sucked, if you keep that up you'll be voted off"

I think it has more to do with J-Lo trying to assert herself as the voice of the show. I could see her trying to make this <HER> show and add lots of input on how things should be and are done etc...

I think the producers just want a cog for the machine that simply finds and exploits new talent. Cowell was great at that and they need someone who will be as effective.

I nominate Phil Spector. His judgment will be final and unambiguous.

Then the make up artist would run to the tabloids and say J-Lo was stingy with giving out fruit!

It's a vicious cycle.

Remember, in 2001 she was at the peak of her popularity. This rider looks like a piece of cake compared to other's I have read about. Here's a list of the top 10 crazy backstage riders that other celebs (who are no where near as popular as J-Lo was back in 2001) have requested.

Good Lord, those are crazy.

I also get the feeling that Fox saw that they were getting a bigger diva than Simon and pulled the plug. The rumors of Jessica Simpson getting the job are starting to make more sense. She's kooky and nice like Paula, less of a pain in the ass than Lopez, and will probably take a smaller paycheck, too.
Yeah I fail to see what's so scandalous about that rider.

Bring her own food? I don't bring my own food when invited to a meeting outside of my home office.
Yeah, but do you require a full buffet for something that's going to take 90 minutes?
Especially when you're filming something for charity?

I don't know. I see it as a non-issue, but I'm a reasonable person who has no animosity towards Jennifer Lopez. I don't know the details, was it lunch time or dinner time? Heck, these sorts of things are common for just about any business. I arrive some place and I expect there to be some snacks and beverages, because I don't know if I will be there an hour or five. In truth, it really doesn't matter, why? because we were not in any way affected by this event that happened almost a decade ago.

It sucks J-Lo will not be on American Idol but I'm pretty sure my life will go on, somehow.

The food is for her and her whole crew.

And she's probably there for more than 90 minutes ...

You could pay her in puppies and free food to take home and she'd be sweet I reckon.

Even if the food is for the whole crew why does she need them to buy her white table clothes and candles and a bunch of flowers? Seems pretty silly to me.

Steven Tyler??? Apparently it's a done deal.

I keep reading that Shania Twain is a possibility as well.
