Russo.....A F'ing HACK!

Thread Starter
I really feel Johnny Butane's anger/pain dealing with John Russo...

Russo is such a fucking HACK and sleazeball, and it makes me sick that he keeps getting work while other worthy filmakers are left to struggle.

The only thing I can thing I can think up is...Russo is sticking his small "you-know-what" up someones ass...and that someone isn't a female!
I read news of this elsewhere, where Russo claims that Jim Carrey and Jeff Goldblum want to be in his new suckfest.

I have a hard time buying any of this. Much like his "film school" where he charges people to do grunt work on his films.
Romero can't get backing for Dead Reckoning, but Russo farts in a cup, calls it Ass-Stink of the Living Dead and gets "$5-10 million"?

There is no God.
Its funny, I just was talking to Russo at this weekend's Chiller Theatre show...

He mentioned Escape from the Living Dead or whatever it is called.

I asked him why he continues to do stuff like this, and he got all defensive and said that he deserved to profit from a franchise that he helped to create, and that he technically originated (writing the book I guess).

Then Russel Steiner(sp?) who also was there chimed in and said that fans wanted this continued series of movies.

They were a bit rude to me, so i said,"Yeah fans want more zombies but not the cheaply done b movies that you people keep putting out."

Then I asked why they were going to put scream queens like Debbie Rochon in it when all they were were softcore porn actresses. I then said. "why don't you go all the way and put Brinke Stevens in it or Tom Savini I think he's selling pictures at the other table for $25."
I then told them that these people make their already cheap movie look cheaper.

They asked me if i was going to buy anything and then I walked away past Savini who was busy signing a bunch of posters for kid's who don't realize what the joke of his former self he's become...

By the way, Lorenzo Lamas was at the show also, and he was a bit rude to some young girl who asked him for a picture, so I called him a c*cksucker. I then fled the room.... His wife is hot though...

Then I talked to the little white guy from
Magnum P.I.

Pull yourself out of the Dark Ages with this "I hate this guy, but at least I can console myself with the fact that he's gay" stuff. Grow up, man.
I'm not even going to go into my thoughts on what a travesty Russo's new project will probably be...

But it will surely be less offensive than your closing remark, peloquin13.

Yeah I know, I was ranting away back there....Just pissed off, and this is the place to get it off my chest.

Savini will always be good in my book. Based off of his past work. Who gives a fuck what he's doing now.
What are you people talking about? Debbie Rochon is a marvelous actress and if you don't say otherwise then she'll send Johnny Butane a rambling, typo-filled email bitching about the guy who wrote the review saying otherwise! How can anyone doubt the talents of a woman who has starred in movies like PLAYMATE OF THE APES, SCROTAL VENGEANCE, ANAL PAPRIKA 3, and HAYRIDE SLAUGHTER II? I'm amazed Russo could get a star of her stature to appear in such one of his productions.
Debbie Rochon was in Anal Paprika 3 - but be warned, in some scenes it is not her it is her anus-double.

***Savini will always be good in my book. Based off of his past work. Who gives a fuck what he's doing now.***

I definitely understand that.
I wish to clarify something before I bring the wrath of everyone down on my head:

Savini was a great FX artist. I say was because he, by his own admission, hardly does FX work himself anymore. But now he appears in grade b horror direct to video flicks, where everything he does seems really forced, to me.

When he's an actor, the whole picture slows down to focus on him and he really seems amatuerish, from his stunt work(which is so slow that you can almost see the other actors waiting for him to finish his stunt) to his actual acting where he seems like he's reading off of cue cards ala SNL.

He has great ideas, but how often does a movie become a great movie based on the actor's created backstory for the character that is never seen in the movie or the ideas that a director was thinking about when he shot a particular movie.

And for that I mean: 1. When Savini was directing NOTLD the remake, he was referring to the zombies as mechanized cadavers not zombies because zombies imply voodoo. There was nothing organized about the dead in the remake, they were just instinct...but did we ever get that aspect as part of the movie? Not really.

2. Savini wanted to convey Death in the remake, from the season it was shot in to the look of the house and the country side to enhance the atmosphere. I really don't feel that that came across in the movie.

Savini is a man of great ideas, but not a good way in executing them.

Also, he really doesn't have the star power to be in a big Hollywood movie, so he's in these low budget movies where he wants to elevate the finished product.

Nice idea, sure, but I've heard him talk, and I have actually talked to him and he comes off as a bit big headed, like he believes his own hype.

He did great things, but he is not doing anything of note now.

He is a great figure from the past, but currently he is almost grade z.

Remember Lon Chaney Jr. was a icon, but in the end he was slumming just like Savini.

Remember this, this is my opinion and I don't want to insult Savini fans but he's completely in a different category if you consider his work NOW.

Its like the Misfits back with Glenn Danzig then and the Misfits with Michael Graves now (well, up to a few years ago)...completely different animals, but still good in their own rights.
(For the record the Misfits will rock in any incarnation!)

ok, that's my rant...

Hey Johnny
Just a quick question. Why have someone write reviews for your site who's only is to be hateful? While I have no expectations of everyone liking every movie I make, this review is a tad over the top in the nasty department. The Bog Creatures is not movie for everyone. But the personal attack is just childish, not to mention sladerous.

Thanks for your time
Debbie Rochon
What can I say? I'm just a SLADEROUS kind of guy.
Hey Foy, I read the review and I don't remember anything slanderous or sladerous.

Maybe if she wants everyone to be respectful she should stop popping her top off.

She really is horrid on film...

But someone should tell her this isn't the news and you have the right to state your *GASP* gosh darn opinion!
She is the movies and as a public figure she is prone to criticisms.

What a cun...Toledo. I would say something along the lines of that its good that she took the time off of getting fisted to write in, but she might take offense, so I won't.

She must think she is Hepburn or something.

By the way...in ads in Fangoria it says that she joined John Russo's "film" workshop...

That should tell us all something.
You're so right... Toledo is a cunt.

[Edited because I have grammer like Debbie Rochon.]

Man, oh man, this is turning into a nasty little thread isn't it.
As for the news of the "Escape" I've got to join everyone else in a big "ugh." Not cause he's making a flick and Romero's not and not entirely because he said a zombie film will be full of "nutty" adventures or suprises or whatever (I mean, nutty? c'mon!)
But I will never forgive the man for that NOTLD so called anniversary travesty. I bought that unawares, thinking that even though the new scenes and all sounded like BS, at least it also had the original version on it as well--and I figured that it would have to be better quality than the cheap ass $2 public domain copies I had. And then I played it, heard that horrible ass new music over the classic and threw it right in the trash.
Remakes are one thing...no, Dawn does not need to be remade, but whatever...it doesn't touch the original...Russo is evil.

And not in that really good way.
I mean, I know the man like owns the rights to the words "Living Dead" or something like that...but come on! Make a movie with a name that doesn't contain Living Dead in it. SHIT!

Plus, why are there so many indie zombie movies that are "loose sequels to Night of the Living Dead"? Just make a new and interesting zombie movie like Danny Boyle did with 28 Days Later.

Oh, I agree with his movie roles (though i liked notld 90s). he's made some bad b-movies. however, he was great in from dusk till dawn.

now about the misfits, well, ill have to disagree. its danzig era or no era. lol
post #19 of 32
I enjoy The Misfits Version 2.0 quite a bit actually, in a 'nothing like the original misfits but still a good band' kind of way. In fact, ever since Danzig's voice and songwriting skills went in the shitter, I've actually enjoyed each new 'fits disk more than each new Danzig one. Tragic.
I'm with you Dan. I love The Misfits with Graves. Too bad they couldn't keep it together
post #21 of 32
the Graves 'fits sound like Pennywise trying to write about horror movies. Danzig or bust, suckers.

seriosuly, if you write a song called "Shining", why would it be about the movie "Poltergeist"?

and yeah, Russo's a goon. Savini gets points for being on the Simpsons, but who hasn't been on the Simpsons by now?

I almost forgot about that pile of crap. I wasn't too keen on the original NOTLD but Russo turn it into a steaming pile of dog turd. His final "new" scene fucked up Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead.
What scenes were added? I've been wondering this for some time, and am not willing to go out and buy a butched version of NOTLD to find out.
A scene before the opening, some crap in the middle, and a horrible "epilouge" that completly ignores Romero's ending. He shoulda been put down as soon as that shit was done.

Oh, and a terrible new score, too.
Savini was good in From Dusk till Dawn...probably because someone told him what to do, not letting him run hog wild all over.

The Misfits are my favorite band, so I'll like them no matter what (even though this latest tour with Dez from Black Flag and Marky Ramone should be called: The Jerry Only Won't Say Quit Tour).
...and yes no matter how the pint sized powerhouse is, Danzig's last few albums have been pretty...ah...um, interesting.

As for Russo, I think we are all in agreement, and if you read my earlier post you know how I feel about him, especially now that he was a douche toward me, not that I was nice myself, but believe me earlier on I was very cool to him, but his shit don't stink attitude really bugged me.

As for the gay reference someone else made, is he? It really doesn't matter a good God damn to me, but I never knew it if he was. Or was that just maent as a slam against him?

Oh well...raise your glasses up...Here's to putting Debbie Rochon on the rotisserie.

*downs one*

umm yeah, I recently picked up "Children of the Living Dead" and after 10 minutes almost drove a nail through my hand as punishment for buying such blech. I think I also teared up a lil' as I realized I had just dropped a twenty on a piece of shit disguised as a DVD.

P.S. I like My MISFITS, Danzig style....

No! Dude you should have rented it. Quick man to the batmobile. take that movie back and get your money back.

i rented it from blockbuster cause i was unsure. oh, geez worse time of my life. the action scenes were especially hilarious, god were they bad.

Here's a little something for you all:

I just read something where Russo said that people actually come up to him and ask when are there going to be more zombie movies like "Children of the Living Dead."

Where are these people?

We have to find them and sterilize them...

By the way, for everyone saying that they can't believe that they spent money on Children of the living Dead, be glad you didn't spend extra U.S. money to get a region 2 DVD months before it was releasee here like I did. Why? Because I'm an ass.

The copy is fullscreen and bathed in this bluish/grey filter, so it looks even more horrible than it really is. If thats possible.

Now I could be wrong but for the most part I believe people ask him when these films are going to be made in hopes that they will be asked to portray a roll as a zombie or living dead creature. Let's face it no matter how bad a film anyone here would kill to be a lead zombie...hehe kill..get it..he..eh..nevermind.

Danzig...Graves...I like the Misfits all the same.

As for Savini...he was my first movie icon. I grew up during the "Savini Splater Days", and thought his work was incredible. I still think Day of the Dead is zombie standard.

Now, however...I think even he knows that some of his stuff is dated. Hence, why he's only really acting nowadays. In person, I thought he was very nice and polite.

For Russo...it's like seeing Roddy Piper in the ring again. And it's not pretty. It's like he doesn't understand that no one wants to see more, but he swears he's doing us all a favor by continuing.

Debbie Rochon is a tard. I don't see the "talent" in showing your breasts. Sure, I love Terror Firmer, but my love has nothing to do with her.

BTW, I really like Danzig's new album. So there!
