A good point, but there is also the fact that those laws can create all sorts of problems such as homeless sex offender tent cities ETC which perhaps pose an even larger risk given the fact that those people could disappear without a trace. Better to have an address on record and be able to track them, IMHO

Well, I don't agree with not being allowed to drink a legally available beverage. The libertarian in me says that's not cool.
However...
If you drive drunk I think there should be automatic jail time that you cannot escape, and a second offense should mean you can never again own a car since you've demonstrated that in your hands it can be a deadly weapon. I think that would stop people like Lohan from driving drunk, if they knew that the consequences could not be shrugged off or escaped. Eventually people would just get the idea that you don't drive drunk unless you are ready to clear the next five years of your schedule for jail time. Society would change, believe me. My uncle was killed by a drunk driver when he was coming to visit me after I was born, so I take that issue seriously.
