Aka “Spider and Other Stories” – a triptych of tales on themes of devouring.

SPIDER (novella) is about an indie film director who transfers his feelings about his actress wife’s sudden rise to stardom into an obsession with a house spider.

MEAT (short story) tells the story of a thief who gets caught in an exhaust vent trying to burglarize the restaurant where he works, leading to an altercation with a surprisingly tenacious nighttime visitor.

DISEMBODIED (short story) follows two LA homicide detectives as they try to stop a spree killer who seems to have the ability to appear anywhere in the city, only to die and regenerate elsewhere.

Also available, a print edition of my first four novellas (Last Tuesday, Bones, Sunday Billy Sunday: A Memoir, and Night of the Scorpions) entitled FOUR NAILS IN THE COFFIN.

Fangoria raves, “Remarkably character-driven…Wheaton rather convincingly showcases his talents as a writer of horror prose, taking his time to craft characters who are thoroughly fleshed out and engaging without holding off too long on the suspense…proves here to be a quite gifted storyteller undeniably worthy of an interested reader’s time and attention.”

Rue Morgue adds, “genuinely twisted and engrossing…may just leave you shaken for days.”

Bought. Perfect timing, as I just finished NIGHT OF THE SCORPIONS and was sad that I only had LAST TUESDAY to read of yours. They've all been excellent so far, I'm really digging how you're taking classic horror tropes and turning them on their heads.

How is the Kindle publishing going? I notice that Barnes and Noble is going to allow people to start self-publishing their ebooks soon, as well.

Kindle publishing is just easy. You write something, edit it, code it and then it's up a few days later after it propogates through Amazon's catalog. Of course, Amazon wants to make it as easy as possible to encourage writers that it's a viable option versus traditional publishing houses - which it's really not as there's zero marketing behind any of the stuff, it's impossible to get it reviewed, etc. - but to counter that Amazon pays an impossibly high royalty of 70% if you just publish your book at a price between $2.99 and $9.99, which is lightyears better than a traditional model (it's 35% if it's below $2.99 or above $9.99 - I get $.35 a download as they don't let you make them cheaper than $.99).

If you're paying other people for covers/to code your work, etc., it's just an unrealistic model for ever turning any kind of profit, but it is really fun if you're just doing it to get a story out there and read.

One additional point in Amazon's favor - they update their bestseller lists hourly, so if you put out something new and everyone kind of just hits "download" to their Kindle, it can artificially make it look like you're goddamn Stephen King. After being available for about 24 hours, "Spider and Other Stories" is charting at:

Amazon Bestsellers Rank: #3,802 Paid in Kindle Store

#13 in Books > Literature & Fiction > Genre Fiction > Horror > Ghosts
#5 in Kindle Store > Kindle Books > Fiction > Horror > Ghosts
#5 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Anthologies

This means that anyone kind of scanning through those lists will see the book, though - of course - it has not sold anywhere near more copies than "Her Fearful Symmetry: A Novel" by Audrey Niffenegger, but just has in the past hour. So, you get a few more eyes if you put an announcement out everywhere your previous readers might've found you in the first place.

I'll give them a go. Haven't read some good horror in a while, apart from THE STRAIN, which was ok, not great.

And Mark, you may not remember but 3 years ago you sponsored me $100 for a charity trek I did so I figure I owe you!
