Batman: Arkham City - Page 2

Not crying too much about the loss of multiplayer...  But I really wanted to play as Catwoman.

That's what Challenge Rooms are for...

But you have to admit that the ending to that battle was awesome.

I'll admit the  Punch Explosion to Joker's kisser gag made me chuckle.  It was a nice ending to a tedious and anticlimactic final boss.

I just think that, contrary to Downey Jr.'s advice, if your gonna go retard then go full on fuckin' retard.  They should have had Hulked out Venom-Bat-Man vs Hulked out Venom-Joker.  At least that would have been interesting and fun.

There's an article over at Kotaku today with new info on Arkham City. The main thing though is that they confirmed that the Riddler Trophies are back.

AMEN  to this. we can wait if we really want to play it.

IGN also had a sneak peek and this was written:

What's new?
According to developer Rocksteady, a whole lot is new.

What's the story?
A year after the events of the first game, Arkham's former warden Quincy Sharp is now mayor of Gotham. With Arkham destroyed, Sharp has turned Gotham's slums into a prison for Arkham's inmates. When Two-Face threatens to execute Catwoman, Batman must break into Arkham City and put a stop to the madness.

How is Arkham City set up?
Arkham City is an open world, broken up into numerous districts. Each district is controlled by a different Batman enemy. You can go to any district you want, with each one having it's own narrative story missions to tackle. It sounds like Arkham City is set up like Red Dead Redemption, where each section has its own storylines, which eventually unlock overall story missions.

How has the gameplay changed?
The basics from the first game remain the same, but now players will need to identify enemies with information and avoid knocking them out in combat. The story is said to be darker and has more characters than in the first game, with the Boy Wonder among many believed to make an appearance.

Is there multiplayer?
There is no multiplayer in Batman: Arkham City.

What characters are in Batman: Arkham City?
The list of characters continues to grow, but here are the main players we know about:
  • Batman
  • Catwoman
  • Talia al Ghul
  • Two-Face
  • Hugo Strange
  • The Joker
  • Harley Quinn
  • Mr. Freeze
  • The Riddler
  • Mr. Zsasz
  • Calendar Man
  • Jack Ryder

How's It Looking?
We recently got a 20-minute demo showing off an early part of Batman: Arkham City. It looks awesome. Really, really awesome. Get psyched.

Loved the Hugo Strange video. But I want to see some gameplay, dammit!

IGN's got this little piece about the old gadgets and the new ways they can be used in the game.

Quick Combat Gel and Smoke Bombs and Cryptographic Communications/Network Hacking, oh my!

Can't wait to see what other sweet gadgets they've cooked up.

Also, gameplay footage!  Where is it?!

Official word is out. Looks like everyone is getting this on Oct 18th (North America), Oct 19th (Australia), or Oct 21st (Europe and "other global territories").

Yay, 2nd Class Citizens!!!!!

I generally can't wait for this, everything I've seen just makes it look like a bigger, badder, Arkham Asylum and I've come around to Arkham Asylum as one of the best games of this generation.

Looks pretty good - really like the diving that you can do while gliding....

FINALLY!

Looks just as awesome as I'd hoped.

The Riddler revealed:

053-rescue.jpg

434riddler15.jpg

Gotta say, I'm not really digging the design.  He looks like some sleazy concert promoter or something.  Was hoping he'd look a little more obsessive and crazy.  Don't hate it though.

And here I was going to say that I really like this Riddler design. I think it fits in with the rest of the character design aesthetic. At the very least it's not Jim Carrey in spandex, so that's a huge plus.

At least he doesn't look like the Marilyn Manson-Riddler from 'The Batman'.

It looks like after this game Mark Hamill is retiring as the voice of the Joker. Very sad, but he's been doing it for a long time.

The new Riddler looks a LOT like John Glover. I'm all about that.

Hamill will officially have been doing that voice for 20 years after this game. That's a hell of a legacy to leave for that character.

I finally watched that trailer. Jesus Tapdancing Christ, ME WANTY!

Yeah, that's the first thing that I thought.  This game looks like more of the same with a few new tweaks...which is great.

Wish granted. Catwoman is a playable character for about 10% of the game, not an add-on like Joker in the AA.

Yeah, the trailer showing off Catwoman is kinda great.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_bYGcCzbkg

Could do without the T and A, but I love that Catwoman seems to have seperate combat animations and scales the city in different ways to Batman.

Really excited for this, despite being a latecomer to Arkham Asylum. The preview sounds like they've expanded on everything I loved about Arkham Asylum.

Agreed. That new trailer certainly has me hyped, but I really wish those character designs weren't so awful. Many of the characters look ripped straight from bad Dark Knight fan fiction.

Character designs mostly look fine with me. aside from Batman himself and that's probably due to just my dislike of having the suit look armored.

I know this makes me sound super-pathetic too, but Catwoman's kinda my single favorite character in comic books, so actually being able to play as her kind of made me squeel for joy.

I don't like them. The first game had a beefed up Gordon and Scarecrow with Freddy Krueger hands, now this one has The Penguin with a glass bottle shoved up his eye that's "too dangerous to remove" and Riddler with fingerless gloves. Not too mention all of the inmates look like Juggalos. It's gritty realism gone overboard. Part of me wishes the developers would of gone with a cell-shaded look or better yet, since so much of the cast is from TAS, made it based on that.

i just saw the picture of Penguin. wtf. they should have at least kept the same character designs as the last game. Harley and Ivy definitely dont look as good either

God, don't do that. I liked Arkham Asylum, but thinking about how fucking awesome it would have been in the style of Batman: TAS is just mean to do to oneself.

I didn't see this mentioned anywhere but if you pre-order from Best Buy you get access to two Robin challenge maps.

The day before my birthday. Seems apt.

Actually, if you pre-order from Best Buy you get early access to Robin and his challenge maps.  I read on other sites that he'll be available for everybody eventually.  I;m guessing they'll be a free download later, just like the joker was.  Though this time, he's not a PS3 exclusive.

So that must mean Robin is in the game at some point right? Why make a skin or character for just two challenge maps?

Well they made Joker playable with his own set of moves and a bunch of challenge maps that they then offered for free.  They said it would help curb people selling back their copies early thereby preventing used sales.  I could see them doing the same thing here with Robin.

They confirmed it's Tim Drake.  Which is weird because there are a bunch of "Flying Graysons" posters around the place, so maybe Nightwing will make a cameo in the game too?

That's pretty much what the link I posted says.

Donatello vs. Robin is something I want to see.

I hope we get a Nightwing costume, too.

Getting a Cole from Infamous and a Force Unleashed guy vibe . . . not sure if that's a good thing . . .

Much bigger fan than most of the models they use.  That actually looks kind of great.

I hope they have unlockable Adam West mode with gadgets. You know, just in case you fight a shark.

Looks like there might be different Batman skins for the challenge maps? At least as pre-order bonuses.....they've shown The Dark Knight Returns skin, Batman Beyond, Batman: TAS, the 70-80's blue/grey classic suit, and another version I'm not quite familiar with.....they look pretty nice.

If I am able to play the entire game with the Animated Series version of Batman from the start, I will be a very happy camper.

All due respect to the holiness of TAS, my undying love for the Beyond suit may win out here.

I didn't see anyone post an actual pic of the suits so here they are. From L-R Batman Beyond, DKR, Earth One, 70s/80s sort of Neal Adams, TAS and I think that's the vanilla Arkham City one last.  I'm not sure who originally put that pic together but all the credit goes to them. So what do you all think?

OMG OMG OMG

Too beefy.  I don't know why they go for that motif.  Year One is grotesque.  Earth One looks pretty decent.

That's not Year One Batman, that's Dark Knight Returns Batman. Although it would probably have made sense to have DKR Batman in his actual armour, which seems to be the defining look of the character.

When I first started Arkham Asylum I really felt that way too but somehow the gargantuan thunder beast look has grown on me. I would be pretty interested to see the Arkham Whatever universe version of Bruce Wayne though. No wonder all the Wayne Enterprises stuff does so well, who'd want to sit on the opposite side of a board meeting with him? "Yes of course Mr. Wayne...don't eat my face." This is just a side thing too but Batman Beyond Batman has a sort of flying squirrel thing doesn't he? Under arm wing flaps? I wonder if that'll be rendered in game when he's gliding or if he'll just magically glide without the cape/wings?

Edit:

That's my fault, I had a blonde moment when I was typing the names up and accidentally put Year One instead of DKR then realized it after my post and edited. My bad.

Personally, I think the TAS skin does the best job of getting the closest to what it should look like.  The Batman Beyond one looks okay, but I would much rather have a game set in that universe so that I could use all the Beyond gadgets. Think we can convince Rocksteady to do a Beyond game next?

Yeah, without the boosters in his heels, it's just a wingsuit that allows Terry to glide around. Can't be terribly hard to render.

Reminds me of this: http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=92752

The custom AA mods. Now that the ears can be lowered, maybe I'll grab The Dark Knight or Batman Begins one.

I loved the first game and I'm looking forward to this new Batman game.
