CALVIN AND HOBBES HONORED WITH STAMP

I bought a few of these the other day. If I'm not mistaken, the image used is from the cover of the 1OTH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION book

To my knowledge, as a C+H fan going back to 1993, this is the first official CALVIN AND HOBBES merchandise to be licensed by Mr Watterson in my lifetime

I kinda wonder what made Watterson cave?

IMHO, getting a stamp is kind of an honor, like getting a Kennedy Center award or something. It's become a little more meaningless in the past few years as the USPS has struggled with budget woes and opened up the floodgates to all sorts of new stamps, but Watterson seems like an old fashioned fellow and I bet he looked at the stamp as a recognition of his fine work and not a crass marketing ploy. It's not like there is going to be a whole franchise of Calvin and Hobbes stamps. This stamp won't be on sale indefinitely. It's a one time deal, and who knows what he's doing with the funds he receives.

Yeah, a stamp strikes me as somehow classier than a t-shirt or coffee mug.

And yet that doesn't stop me from wanting a Hobbes stuffed animal.

It would all end in tears...because no matter how much you try to deny it, when he constantly doesn't come to life and hang out with you being incessantly cool, it would suck.

I own a stuffed tiger named Hobbes. I'll have to post a photo of him sometime!

My boys have stuffed animals they sleep with. The oldest has a lion, in honor of Hobbes. Every boy needs a hobbes. The younger has a frog. His name is hops, although I prefer the enlongated spelling: hoppes.

My Hobbes has a beautiful coat of fur, so I never really played with him very much because I didn't want him to get dingy. I got him for X-Mas '97 or '98, and he'd just hang out with me on my bed while I read or went to sleep. Sometimes I'd bring him to Friendly's with me and I'd make him paper ravioli out of the napkins which he'd eat.
