(NEWSER) – John Robbins is taken aback by Coca-Cola's "staggering feat of twisted logic:" Forced to defend itself in court against charges that its Vitaminwater makes false health claims, the company didn't even attempt to back them up. Instead, it asserted that "no consumer could reasonably be misled into thinking vitaminwater was a healthy beverage." This, despite the small fortune it spends to convince people otherwise.

I can't wait until the diet pills and penis enlargement industries start using this defense...

The "Revive" stuff really does help with hangovers. Or, possibly, it's placebo effect does. Either way.

I've drank the Power C on days when i feel shitty, and it seems to help.

I think that really does help, it has B vitamins you lose through puking and dehydration.

The bottom line is it's sugar water with some vitamins and chemicals and food colouring in it. It's probably not as bad for you as Coke is but it's certainly not as good for you as they want you to believe. You could just drink water and take a multi-vitamin and get all the benefits without the sugar and whatever other crap they add in there.

That being said I do buy them occasionally, I have no illusions about it being good for me but it's like a slightly less sweet fruit punch or something.

I just think it's hilarious they said no person could reasonably be misled to think it's a healthy beverage when they have all this stuff telling people it's a healthy beverage all over it.

I am a big supporter of PowerAde but never in my life have tried a VitaminWater*. I do not enjoy flavored water. I don't find it refreshing, and somehow the flavors are always mildly unpleasant.

With that said, I have to agree with WG that the "No one could fall for our lying ads!" line of defense is a rather stunning one to see used in a court of law

*Though I do from time to time enjoy smart water, mostly just because I like the bottle shape. I'll freeze them solid in my fridge and then keep them by my bed all night long while the ice slowly melts. That way I have cold water even if I wake up at 3 am

Wait, penis enlargement pills don't work?
Most of them don't, Willy. However the ones that I sell, DickFertilizer 2000, are guaranteed to give you a loin smashing meat hammer in thirty days or less. All I need is your credit card number, and I'll send you a week's supply for pretty much free....just don't blame me if they don't work.

Revive is damn good for hangovers. I'll drink a few before a night of going out and I'm sitting pretty for the morning after.

I do enjoy their water, nice crisp taste.

It's got nothing on those big-ass yellow Rockstar Recovery drinks. That's the real deal.

I've never seen such a drink! Any difference between that and a normal Rockstar?

Especially since it's called "VITAMIN WATER".

Course, then there's "DR PEPPER". That can't be bad for me... He's a doctor for crying out loud. What about the hippocratic oath???

And FYI... Coca-Cola use to have "medicinal" cocaine in it. Truth!

SoBe Life Water is a much better alternative, no sugars or calories and all the vitamins of vitaminwater

Eeew, I just looked up the nutritional information. There are 2.5 servings per bottle and one serving has has 50 calories and 13 grams of sugar.

So there's 32.5 grams of sugar in the whole thing. Yuck! That's as bad as a can of Coke, I at least thought it had a little less sugar in it since it doesn't taste as sweet.

This whole thing is making me realize how gross all this stuff really is, maybe I should just stick with water and fruit juice spritzers.

If you want flavored water, I like regular water with a tiny tiny dash of unsweetened KOOLADE. Sure, it's a mysterious powder produced in Mexico (true), but it tastes neat. I like fruit punch and electric berry lemonade (or whatever it's called)

I add that to my water sometimes while I'm at home, and it helps me stay hydrated.

Those are awesome. They remind me of countrytime lemonade in taste, and the boost they give feels less jittery.

Honest Tea is where it's at, man.

They also have zero calorie versions. I assume those aren't as bad??? I've been known to drink them. I probably won't anymore. I'd say they're probably doing more damage with their bottles than with what's inside them anyway.

I love Honest Tea! My favorite flavors are as follows: Moroccan Mint, Lori's Lemon Tea.

PS I've written about HT on the board before. Did you know it's The President's favorite bottled tea? It's stored in all White House refrigerators!

I'd actually like to see that studied as vitamin supplements are notoriously in-exact in "dosage" aren't they? Be funny if Coke's super-health-good-make drink turned out to have a consistent measure of vitamins.

The problem with Coke's defense is that the name lends to a healthier label. It's called Vitamin Water for chrissakes.

They let people help fill in the T, and their product is great and refreshing. What don't you like about HONEST TEA?

I used to drink T-42 (It's actually called T-4-2 but I make a point of pronouncing it "Tea Forty-two", but I now like HONEST TEA Much better

Just wanted to pop in here and say thanks to this thread I found my new favorite energy drink. These things are awesome: tastes good (They're not carbonated and taste like lemonade just a little more artificial and tangy), low calories (20 calories per can), low sugar (2g per can), and they work pretty damn well. Gives me a good boost during the day and they definitely work great for hangovers. Seems like every 7-11 that I've been to sells them.

I used to be all about the NOS but with this having such a small amount of sugar and calories by comparison, this one's a winner. Now if I can just find a place that sells them in bulk for cheap, I'll be set.

At first they tasted like that acidic sensation of putting your tongue to a AA battery, but eventually it grew on me.
