I saw this movie again last night and overall, it's still an entertaining flick with a cool premise and decent performances save for one: Ashton Kutcher. I give the guy props for taking on a role that was un-Kelso like but the guy, bless his heart, just can't act very well outside his wheelhouse.
Take for instance his coming to the white supremists and offering to suck their dicks. It should be a tense scene but damn if I didn't laugh when he was spouting off racial epithets. The same thing goes for the episode where he ends up in a wheelchair and had prosthetic arms. It should be heartbreaking but it was funny in how bad it was.
For all that though, the movie overcomes the Kutcher problem by sheer force of its above average script, the willingness to go to some dark places, and the balls of the "director's cut" ending. All that earns a pass from me and makes The Butterfly Effect worth watching despite its flaws.
