What an incredible, heartbreaking film.
Richard Harris is amazing in this. His character of Frank is foolish, arrogant, and violent, but underneath it all he has a heart and every scene he has with Rachel Roberts is fascinating. And the Rugby scenes are so beautifully shot, that the fact that I don’t know shit about the sport didn’t matter at all.
This is the only film of Lindsay Anderson’s that I’ve seen, and from what I’ve read his films delve into surrealism after this, but I really appreciated how raw and straight-forward this film was.
