Really good interview. I've kinda gone SCOTT PILGRIM crazy these past couple of days (it was the soundtrack that did it - shit's phenomenal) and I can't wait till Friday. I love how you broke down the meaning of "hipster."
One thing I love about Edgar Wright is that, for a guy who is very techinical, very specific about what he wants on set, has a very good control of everything that happens, he's not severe in the least. I can't picture him screaming at someone or being an asshole on set or any of that.
I've never heard the Homer Simpson comparison, but I think that's going to be my go-to description of the character now. He's like a slacker Homer.
I don't really care for Cera on any level (perhaps I even actively dislike him, I'm not sure), but all the same you seemed to get interesting answers out of him. Good work, Devin. It made for fun reading.
EDIT: The part about "aggressive dancing" was also kind of hilarious, in a WEST SIDE STORY kind of way
I love how he likened the fight scenes to a musical more than an actual fight. When explaining this movie to friends, I found Wright's musical comparison to be the best way to describe what it's trying to do.
Question: did Edgar Wright meet up with Cera to do SCOTT PILGRIM before or after the phony SUPERBAD interview? I just remembered that Wright was in that.
I skipped the stuff about the new ending and whatnot, but that interview was great. And I love that Cera compared Scott to Homer. I'm pretty sure I actually made that comparison on the boards a while ago back when I wasn't all that keen on Cera being cast. Kinda ironing...
