It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: Season 6

Premieres Thursday, September 16 at 10PM ET/PT only on FX.

I'm a Facebook Fan and they've been posting mad clips from the new season. If these promos are any indication of the quality of the show this season, we are in for a treat! Also, there's a promo pimping more musical bits on the show, including a flashback to Dee performing as Frankenstein in a high school play!

The season can't start soon enough!
As much as I dearly love this show, it's been in a slump. The last season was very hit or miss... although we got a few classic episodes (INTERVENTION) most were fairly forgettable- they're falling into self-parody at this point. Hoping they bounce back!

I wouldn't say they had any misses. But the highs weren't as glorious as previous seasons.
Season 5 was the most inconsistent, but when it was on (INTERVENTION!) it was glorious. I was always hot and cold on Frank's contribution to the dynamic, but devolving him fully into a filthy drunken hobo proved inspired. Devito tore into the depravity with such relish it was almost frightening.

Still, even when the show was "off" it was still pretty hilarious. Bring on S6.
I think the main problem is that they feel the need to constantly top themselves. At the beginning the show was more similar to something like Curb Your Enthusiasm, but as the show has progressed the stories got more and more outlandish, which is fine if it's a natural thing. It seems like they're always trying to "up the ante", and I don't think it's helping the show at all. A more stripped down, back to basics approach attitude might help out.

I thought last season was great! Road Trips, kitten mittens, interventions, D.E.N.N.I.S., oh my! Season 4 felt like the slump. Can't wait for this to start.
Agreed with Mac. I thought S4 kinda sucked for the most part, but I loved the hell out of S5.
Yeah, I'm with Mac. The highs weren't as high, but it was consistently hilarious last season. As a side note, I rewatched the Road Trip episode last night and it's only getting funnier. Mac's ocular pat-down; the bicyclist getting nailed by Mac's beer bottle; the fumes knocking Charlie and Dennis out; Runaway Train; Mac referring to everyone as "bozo"; Conversely, Dennis referring to everyone in the Italian Market as a "gypsy...

How could you leave out "Flip, Flip, Flip-a-delphia"?! I was dying during that episode, particularly when Frank's idea of a prank was to cut the shower curtain in half and do the guy's taxes.
Kitten Mittons is a definite "never not funny" for me. That absolutely destroyed me the first time I saw it, and I crack up just thinking about it.

I don't think I saw all of season 5, but what I did see, I loved. Can't wait for the next one.
The D.E.N.N.I.S system is one of my favorite episodes of the entire show. "Then We Bang" with Take my Breath Away from Top Gun playing is so damn funny. Along with Frank calling himself Dr. Mantis Toboggan.

I agree that Season 4 was the slump season not Season 5. Season 4 had hands down the worst episode...the one about cracking the Liberty Bell during the American Revolution.

Can't wait for Season 6 to start.

Yeah, the cast loves that episode for some reason. Was that also the season where they parodied Die Hard? That sticks out as another weak one.

Yeah, Howerton named it as one of his top 5 episodes.

Gotta disagree. It's not a highlight by any stretch of the imagination, but it's still pretty damn funny. "Oh, my God. I think you found Charlie's bad room."

Charlie's bad room was so good. Especially the map to it.

I like the Liberty Bell episode. It's not the greatest they ever did or anything, but I still chuckle at the image of Frank and Charlie in period get-up indignantly firing their "broken" muskets at each other. And having the gang portray over-the-top, almost-tranvestite British fops is like a cheat code to hilarity.

Tonight's 2-hour Happy Hour included "The D.E.N.N.I.S. System" and "The Gang Reunites the Rivalry." I'm a happy woman.

I want to legally change my name to Dr. Mantis Toboggan
post #18 of 260
I love "The D.E.N.N.I.S System" it's the only one I caught before bed last night.

"My grandmother had an affair with Susan B. Anthony"
"Oh, look it's my Monster Condom for my Magnum Dong"
"Is that a bag of Hair?"
"And then we bang"

Plus Dee falling down the hill and Dennis calling the Woman using the voice disguiser.

Aw yeah, tomorrow night, bitches!

Apparently, they've worked Kaitlin Olson's pregnancy into the series. That can't be good for Sweet Dee. Hilarious, yes, but ungood for the character.

And may I recommend the It's Always Sunny app for iPhone. Anytime you need a laugh, it's the kitten's mittons.
I just saw a promo where Frank says they have to "get that monster out of her". I think it's going to be a great season.

Yeah there was a 2-3 minute clip on Facebook for the Halloween episode in which they try to find out who drunkenly knocked up Sweet Dee. The "monster" part of the clip was at the end and starts with Frank saying "We have to get you down to Mexico..."
I don't know why, but that little karate/fist-pump thing that Mac does in all the season 6 promos just gets me.

There's a short Collider review of four episodes, and they loved it, especially the preggers Dee one.

We need to see Dennis and Mac's Lethal Weapon 5 RIGHT NOW.

You bet your ass.

Good but not great episode overall.

"It smelled like she was nibblin' on little pieces of shit."

The tandem back-cracking was tremendous.

Definitely the most excited I've gotten from Nick handing me a DVD.

Charlie and Frank made the episode.

"I don't want to be the girl and have my penis chopped off and mailed to China."

Hell Yes we do....I mean Mac in Blackface paying Murtaugh is something we just gotta see.

Mac and Dee's back and forth heaving was awesome.

The Coors product placement was distracting.

But yeah, good not great episode. They should have just done a hour long premiere and had the debut of The League next week.

Yeah, the ending would have been a perfect segue-way to the next episode's title: "Dennis Gets a Divorce".
Why this show is better than The Wire, Breaking Bad, Deadwood, The Wire, and The Wire combined:

Mac's faux-Christianity is back.
Frank wears crocks.
Frank's clown hair is even crazier than last year.
Dennis' choked delivery of "Did he die?"
Mac's shock-whisper of "That can't be true."
The tranny returns.
Dennis has no feelings and thinks it's normal.
Lots of Dee almost throwing up.
Alley Almonds.

If you want to mine extra laughs out of this show, watch Frank when he has no lines. Danny DeVito's always doing the most brilliant shit with his face. The best part of this episode is his bull-dog look as Charlie explains how Dennis and Dee will eventually pull the plug on him. Go look right now if you can!

Which was then followed by Charlie asking Carmen, "Dude, did they really mail your dick to China?"

Echoing the consensus, it was good but not great (which means it's better than 99.9% of television). Maybe they learned a lesson from running the amazing "The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis" at the very beginning of the season.

I was so, so happy when we saw that first title card, "Mac Fights Gay Marriage". Seeing that, I thought, "Welcome back, Sunny. I've missed you."

To add to what Strange said about what makes Sunny awesome sauce:

- "Biblical liberalisms"

- "You called this soft body and then gay married him."

- The gang's incredulity at Mac's disbelief that there's no bar bible.

- "We're just two cool straight dudes that happen to be married."

- Brittany Daniels. Good God, y'all.

Like I said: welcome back, gang.

Yes, he's quickly become one of my favorite characters. Charlie being the other, of course.

I didn't notice the Coors, but the damn Subway scene was overwhelming. I couldn't focus on what was being said because my eyes kept focusing in on all the product placement (the camera zoomed in and out on the sandwich and window signs a few times). Also, I kept thinking Ponderosa was a reference to the restaurant.

I think it helped that that stupid Coors/It's Always Sunny commercial contest promo ran in the commercial break right before the bar scene.

And I didn't realize the Tranny's husband is the Miller High Life Delivery Guy until I saw a High Life commercial on ESPN this morning.

Loved Mac trying to fight the idea he's gay because he didn't wait until after she had the operation. And the scene where Dennis kicked him out "you don't actually own anything in this apartment"

All I could think of during that scene was the scene in Scott Pilgrim (both book and film) where we first see Scott and Wallace's apartment.

I love the High Life guy, both in those commercials and here. He has a great personality and comic timing. When he grabs the bible and looks up the Exodus quote, I thought that was a...high life light.

Fairly solid episode. I guess Dee's going to be pregnant from that loser, right? I was hoping for something a little less predictable, but it's still great that they wrote it into the show.

Is Mac gay? If they go that way with the character, that could be hysterical.

Dee gets knocked up at the Halloween party, it's the basis for the Rashomon-episode.
The line that got me was after Charlie asked if the tranny's dick was mailed to China. "No. So no. Yeah I can tell by the way you are looking at me that means no."
Dee's gag reflex never fails to make me laugh

Also loved the way they shot/edited the ending. Epic comedy. Reminded of that Charlie single tear ending.
Doc, I really think we need a gif of Mac's plug demonstration for why gay marriage is impermissible. Just sayin'.

I thought this was hilarious. So many great moments. I'm surprised only one person so far has mentioned that last scene (aside from LETHAL WEAPON 5, which does sound amazing). That was a miniature masterpiece of weird awkward sadness, with the discussion of the cat shirt and her weird little meow and "I like to stay comfy and current" to the weird excited face she made after suggesting they make fishsticks and the profoundly creepy whispered delivery of the line "I bought some," just great.

Also I really didn't find the product placement bothersome or distracting. That episode last season where they were overtly discussing Dave & Busters the whole time was probably the only time it was really a problem. Other than that, it's just there in the background, harmless.

So awful, so hilarious. Almost Louie-esque.

Ahh, I fast forward through all the commercials. I didn't put two and two that the husband was the Miller guy. So funny!

Yes! Dr. Murder wins again with his .gif magic!

Here's a bonus one. Framerate had to be a bit lower than usual because it's a bit longer, time wise.

Holy shit, that Frank face.

My favorite little bit was Mac's frustrated "I don't have enough facts to support my argument," followed by Dennis's matter of fact "Clearly!"

I like that they had Mac tell his real-life wife that he'd rather be shot in the face than marry her.
