South Pacific Broadway revival on PBS tonight

Staged on the expansive Vivian Beaumont Theater thrust by Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher, South Pacific airs at 8 PM ET. "Live from Lincoln Center" captures the record-breaking revival five days before it concludes its Broadway run Aug. 22.

Nice catch. I had to race my department down in the parking lot to tell them. I am tuning in for this one.

What did you think of it, MrTyres? I loved O'Hara, Ables-Sayre, and Burstein.

I like the darker stagings of "Happy Talk" and the "Honey Bun" reprise with the soldiers.

Saw this revival on stage. Still love the songs, but Nellie's attitude towards Emile and his mixed race children feels clunkier and more dated by the decade, like a 19th century mellerdrammer. It's like "My Fair Lady" which you know in your heart is trying to make a statement about sexism, but in this day and age, feels old-fashioned and, yes, sexist.

Saw one of those stunt-cast "South Pacific" in concert perfs at the Hollywood Bowl not long ago with Reba McEntire, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Michael McKean where it was just the songs, not really much of the book. Bizarrely, enjoyed it more than seeing the Lincoln Center revival.

I loved it. However, I am a resident of a musical wasteland, so I rarely get to see many live. I have to travel to Nashville or Atlanta, and both are 4 hour drives for me. I have owned the soundtrack for years.

I am not a free roaming television watcher. I DVR and go; I come back later and watch. I wish we had a thread for PBS related glory, kinda like the Netflix listing.
