Claire Danes: Paint Spokeswoman?

CLAIRE DANES LANDS JOB AS "VALSPAR" Spokesperson

I quite like Ms Danes. She was positively incandescent in her iconic role as "The Star" in Matthew Vaughn's 2007 cult classic STARDUST. She managed to deliver a fairly grounded and realistic performance, no mean feat when you're portraying a massive, luminous ball of plasma held together by gravity. She has a great versatility and my appreciation of her talents has only grown since finally trying out MSCL on DVD earlier this year (I purchased the whole MSCL box set)

This new turn her career has taken though.. well, I'm not sure what to make of it. She seems to be having fun at least, but the photos are as embarrassing as they are hysterical. The article on HUFFPO points out that she has not been in a movie since 2008, and I worry that this is perhaps a sign that her film work is in trouble.. There is a difference between being the new face of Chanel and being the new face of latex based house paints

Is it latex?

I thought it was, but maybe I'm wrong. I don't know much about paint. Whatever the chemical composition of the product is, it's an unusual gig to say the least

I guess her 2010 Emmy nomination for lead actress means nothing then. HuffPo must not count TV for anything.

The HuffPo article was just talking about film work in that sentence

Her last big-screen movie was 'Me and Orson Welles' in 2008. Later this month she'll be at the Emmys, where she's up for Best Actress for her work in HBO's 'Temple Grandin.'

Temple Grandin is a made for TV movie. It's disingenuous to imply that she's in trouble because she hasn't been in a movie since 2008, when she was in a movie in 2010. Unless TV doesn't count.

You hear that John Hamm? Don't try to trick us with THE TOWN. You're a TV actor, you Mad Man.

I think HBO films are fantastic, and more often than not better than most major studio products. However, it's a fair point to make that she has not been cast in any major studio films lately, when in 2003 she was headlining stuff like T3:ROTM

I want her to do really well, don't get me wrong, but I'm worried.

Echoing what other folks have said here, isn't Danes' work in TEMPLE GRANDIN regarded as a high point in her career?

I can't speak for the rest of its content but Huffington Post's entertainment/celebrity coverage has the taste of lowest common denominator ass. Weak-sauce snark.

I have not seen it yet, but I'm not saying her talents are deminishing, only perhaps the number of job offers she receives. I hope that the Emmy nom nod helps her out

Well I usually enjoy the ENTERTAINMENT tab on HuffPo. Also, the article that I linked to isn't really snarky at all, it's just pointing out her new gig

Claire Danes never had a film career, she just appeared in some films.

Also, I saw about ten minutes of TEMPLE GRANDIN one afternoon, and it looked excruciating. The very defination of an irritating, mannered award-bait performance. She'll win the Emmy for sure.

I dunno, but watching her latest stuff is like watching paint dry. HEYOOOOOH!

Drat.. I have been a long time Danes enthusiast, but these endorsement deals of hers keep getting more and more outlandish and shady with each passing news item on HUFFPO

The Huffingtonpost asks: Is Claire Danes COVERING UP Her Eyelash Drug Side Effects?

Quote:
Much has been said about the side effects of FDA-approved eyelash enhancement drug Latisse, but is spokeswoman Claire Danes secretly suffering from an adverse reaction? Page Six writes, "a source claims that Danes' makeup artist has to plaster on concealer to cover the purplish and yellowish shade," and that the damage to the area around her eyes is pretty hard to cover up.

....

Ms Claire does divulge in her Latisse video diary, "When I first started using Latisse, I did actually have a side effect. The skin around my eyes [was] a little bit red. That lasted for about a week. Since then, no, I haven't had any side effects."
Taking drugs for your eyelashes? I feel sorry for people whose genes do not gift them with naturally lush lashes, but the whiff of conspiracy that surrounds this completely unnecessary pharmaceutical product is more than a little unseemly, and IMHO threatens to tarnish Danes' star

"With the luster of Danes' star power, no one will be able to resist our beauty potions!"

I gave up on worrying about actors whose work I respect doing endorsements when Patrick Stewart began doing rental car commercials.

But it's not like there were stories about Mr Stewart trying to cover up the propensity of his rental cars to injure the customer

Because every investigative journalist looking into those stories was murdered.

George Clooney AND John Malkovich are in the same commercials together hocking coffee here in Oz.

It makes me a sad panda.

I am surprised that A-Listers still do foreign commercials in the age of YOUTUBE. If Clooney takes a pay check to hock coffee, the entire world will eventually see it

QUESTION: Do Worthington/Jackman/ETC do commercials in Australia?

How dare you all speak so ill of the originator of the Kate Brewster role?
Our Hugh does a delightful ad for iced tea.

Thing is tho, the fuckers just so god damned charming and likeable, I have trouble holding it against him, I just enjoy the ad too much whenever it comes on instead.

But you have Malkovich playing GOD, or some version of him anyway.

I am not speaking ill of her! Just raising questions about her willingness to accept these shady gigs. I am an avowed fan of her work though (Kate Brewster was a cool character, and she had great chemistry with Nick Stahl), and even gave TEMPLE GRANDIN a generally favorable review

Hehe, I can't watch videos at work but the idea of Jackman trying to sell me iced tea (a beverage I adore) is delightful

And.. Jackman is indeed charming. I went to A STEADY RAIN in November 2009 and shouted at him from across the street when he got out of his Range Rover, and he waved at me and grinned! It was a magic moment

I have to say though that ultimately I am glad that big name actors don't do commercial work here. It would hurt my ability to have them disappear into their role if every time I saw their face some jingle or something popped into my head

PS A photo of Daniel Craig taken by a friend of mine from that same afternoon!

I thought it was about to be a Fatboy Slim/Walken/Weapon of Choice take off. I wish they did commercials like that here. Hell, I would start watching them again, rather than fastforwarding or muting through them. Also, anyone else irritated that I had to watch a commercial before I could watch Jackman's commercial?

Oh for crying out loud.. I was reading my mom's November issue of DWELL earlier today, and guess who happened to be on the back cover hocking more shady wares?

This was the image that ran in DWELL:

An "AOL ORIGINAL"? Who in their right mind would willingly let themselves be marketed that way to the world? It's only a step or two up from "Suspected Arsonist"

What's next for her? Promoting MYSPACE?
