Tragedy in Pakistan

The flooding in Pakistan is catastrophic. 20 million people displaced, 1500 dead. I admit I don't watch a lot of mainstream news, but it seems like the US media isn't covering it, yet the magnitude of this humanitarian disaster is on par with Haiti, if not worse when you consider the disease and suffering the floods will leave in their wake. I listened to a program on NPR about it and was shocked at what's going on there, and how the Pakistani government has been perceived as slow to act, like one big "heckuva job, Brownie."

It wasn't really on my radar until Diva posted about it on FB, but I've since found places to donate here and here.

Besides this being of somewhat Biblical porportions, what's the current news? Are neighboring countries kicking in funds or direct assistance? It seems to me that this would be a great time to win hearts and minds, not to mention just being humane.

Realize this is being said from the perspective of a head of government. If it were up to me, I'd give them all that we could spare.

Isn't this looking like it could be the political straw that breaks the camels back in Pakistan, paving the way for an Islamic Fundamentalist regime to finally take control of the country?
