I'm leaving CHUD

Thread Starter
As you may know if you follow my Twitter, I'm leaving CHUD. I'll be writing for the site for the next few days, and I'll have some embargoed content (set visits, interviews, maybe a review) going up after I'm gone.

I wanted to announce it in advance so it didn't look like a sudden quitting or firing. Also, people have been passing this around as a rumor, and I wanted to be the one to announce it, not someone else.

My future is bright! There's more of me to come. My Twitter and Facebook will, in the coming weeks, have more details.

Expect a mor formal goodbye on the front page.
Any clue when you will be able to provide more insight into the circumstances that lead to this decision?

EDIT: Wherever you go, Devin, I hope you will continue to review movies. I rely on you as my barometer for cinema interest

EDIT2: With the new site about to launch, how does this effect CHUD?
This is a shock. Not long ago you and Nick were both saying that there would be more Devin on Chud's future, not less.

Your opinions, writing, reviews and specially editorials will be sorely missed.
Best of luck in your new endeavors.
Jesus.

Well, this really, really, really sucks. Good luck on your next venture, though. I can't wait to see what it is.
I can't remember a CHUD without Devin. I'll be bummed to see you go man. That being said, I'm sure we'll be getting your opinions and writing elsewhere so I'm excited to see where you end up.
Holy shit have I been dreading this day. All I can say is I hope the offer you got was from Entertainment Weekly at the very least or there's no fucking justice in the world.
Best wishes, Devin.
As someone who has been here a long time (but never interacted a lot or gave much feedback), I think this sucks for the site. Not to say I won't continue to visit, because Nick has a great writing talent as well, but as far as I'm concerned you had the most unique and interesting voice. I hope the reason for leaving is amicable.
You are honestly the reason I visit this site every day. You, Beaks, and Drew are the three webmasters that I most respect. This site will never be the same. That sounds so unbelievably corny so I'll shut up now.
The site will never be the same: True.

But I'm sure Devin has properly prepared Nick long before now, and I remain very excited for CHUD's future, especially if this means Renn will be writing more. I heart Renn.
You suck and I hate you, you cocky cock!!!

Best wishes to your future! It's well deserved!
Wow. Didn't see that coming.

Best of success in your future endeavours, Devin.
Well. Shit. Good luck with all your future endeavors, but this is a major bummer.

Thank you for not sugar-coating this with a promise of two Christmases.
Well, fuck.

I hope it is truly a career bump instead of some, "Things just weren't the same, man!" whiny bullshit.

But really; Well, fuck.

Just for God's sake do not make me have to come to AICN to read you, please.
WHAT!?
Wow... I have been reading the site almost everyday for a long time and want to thank you for all of the wonderful pieces you have written for us. I have grown to trust your opinion on film more than any other critic and I will truly miss your presence on CHUD. I really do get sad thinking this place without you. Good luck in all that you do and I look forward to enjoying your work for many more years wherever I have to go to read it.
Good luck Devin. Hope you continue to be a presence on the boards, regardless.
That is a shock.

Very disappointed to see you go. I'm sure I'l be able to follow you where ever you go, but it does seem like the end of an era. Guess I'll have to diversify me reading habits.

That said, I hope it means good things for you. You deserve good things.
I've been reading the site since about 2002, and creeping the message board daily for years, not really making any decent contributions (I haven't logged in for two years.) But I love reading every article and just about every topic on these boards. This site has lost a number of great writers but I can honestly say this is the biggest loss Chud has ever experienced. Whether I agree with you or not, your opinion has the biggest impact on me online.

I wish you the best of luck and anxiously await an official update on where you're going to end up. Good luck, Devin. This place is not going to be the same without you.
I always knew this day would come eventually, just didn't think it'd be now. That said, Nick has always been able to populate CHUD with some great talent so I'm not worried about whether or not he'll keep the quality coming, it'll just be from some other unique voices.

Devin, your work has been essential to anyone who loves movies. Your passion for film and your skill at dissecting each work you write about has had an incredible impact on me both as a movie lover and a burgeoning film critic. I can't begin to thank you for everything you have contributed to this site. You've helped make CHUD the best movie site on the internet. Wherever you go next they're getting a hell of a writer.

You've put innumerable hours and unmeasurable effort into your work here and it shows. Best of luck.
Wow, talk about 'end of an era'

You're still one of the very very best damn writers on the net today Devin, all the best with your next chapter sir. I await it eagerly.

This is such a damn shock.
We're sorry to see you go, dear sweet Devin.
Your writing has been like manna from heaven.
When the news broke, Chewers cried out en masse.
What would become of the champion of Scott Pilgrim and Kick-Ass?
You were a very important part of the identity of CHUD.
Whether posting reviews or funny videos of Paul Rudd.
You've earned our respect as well as our trust.
The content you provided was intellectually robust.
With your words you could change our collective perception.
Exhibit A: your article on the meaning of Inception.
Keep doing your thing and always stay clever.
Good night, and good luck with your future endeavor.
Best wishes for all your future endeavors, Dev.
Wow, what a shock. Curious to see where you are headed Devin. Good luck!
That sucks. I'll still follow you because you are the best writer out there IMHO. I think even when some have quibbles with your perceived personality they can't deny your talent. You'll be missed here.

Good luck.
Devin? Tears are streaming down my face. You can't just drop that bombshell without tell us why.
I'll follow ya assuming your still in the movie journalism biz.

To be frank, this is shitty news for CHUD as a web site.
Damn Devin...I've always been a huge fan of yours. Your reviews have always been the first I've read, and they've sent me to many movies I might have skipped otherwise. You're one of the best writers out there and I cannot wait to see where you go from here. You'll be missed for sure!
Will you be sticking around the boards?

More importantly, who will finish "Star Trekkin"?
Confession time:

Devin helped me become more of a man.

I know that this is going to sound weird, but Devin's writing about how my generation has grown into physically mature children really struck a chord. It made me realize that it was time to put away childish things, at least to the extreme that we embraced them.

I thank him for that and also for making me a more aware and therefore better film watcher.
Can't believe this. But am incredibly excited to see where you end up next, Devin. You're one of the best film writers out there and have only been getting better.
Best wishes.
Shit, this sucks. You're one of the only movie critics out there in the industry that I trust. I don't agree with you all the time on subjects outside of movies, but your reviews and analyses are always spot fucking on.

Godspeed, Devin.
I'm happy for you Devin. I don't always like you as an individual but you're a helluva writer. Good luck in whatever this future endeavor is, I'm sure I'll read it (assuming it's another writing gig).

I hate to say it, but where does this leave CHUD?
You're a damn great writer, Devin, and you're insightful and always humorous articles are something I look forward to every day when I visit the main page.

Good luck in the future, and hope to see you still posting here on the boards.

Along with Ebert, Devin has opened my eyes to film tremendously over the past few years. Heck, he's been one of my few gurus on popular entertainment in general, and I've appreciated his thoughts on politics and literature as well. Yeah, the guy can be an asshole at times, but his writing's become an internet fixture for me.

Devin, you'll be missed.
While I didn't agree with some small stuff, you did win me over (and matured my film tastes), and now you're leaving.

Best of luck.
Divino Faraci is returning to his roots and writing for LatinoReview.com

...just kidding, I have no idea.

CHUD's gonna be fine. They've got a buncha really good writers for the articles, and as for editorials, Nick is great at them, and I'm sure we're just weeks away from seeing the rest of the gang start maturing into equally good scribes.

Congrats all around!

Those columns had a similar effect on me, though they more explained to me why I wasn't enjoying those things as much as I used to.

His column on real literature vs the fun stuff but light stuff I was reading really made me explore my tastes as well.
I've watched Devin grow from just a message board member to an occasional site contributor, from a staff member to editor. In that time, he has grown from a film fan to a legitimate film critic, quoted in ads and making guest appearances on TV shows. You've accomplished a lot in your tenure with CHUD, Dev, and I have no doubt you'll continue to thrive in whatever life takes you to next. Best of luck in all your future endeavors.
Huge shock, this. It's hard to imagine what CHUD will be without you, Devin. You are, to me, the perfect embodiment of the mix of intelligence and humour, appreciation of the high and low, cleverness and crudity, snark and levelheadedness that defines CHUD.com. You're what I like in cultural criticism in general.

I'm not at all worried about not getting to hear your voice anymore -- I'll be a regular wherever you're headed -- but I do worry that CHUD won't have as much for me anymore. I'll still stick around for Nick and the CHUD Show and everyone else, but it really won't be the same.
That's a damn shame, Devin. I've been reading CHUD since 2005, and have always thought of you as the core of the site (not to denigrate Nick & Co.). Thanks for the tough medicine regading unwarranted nostalgia. A lot more people could have used it, through. I look forward to following up on your future film criticism. Just gives me a reason to get a twitter account, is all.
For as long as I've read the site, CHUD = Devin and Devin = CHUD. If there's one thing geeks hate, it's change. Shit's gonna be weird.
Faraci started on the boards?!
Terrible, awful, shitty news for all of us. But a big congratulations to you, not just for wherever you're going next but for everything you've done here. We're all thankful.
I'm a relatively low poster but have been a loyal reader for nine years.

Devin, you'll be missed. Presence on the main site and on the board not to be duplicated.
I've been suspecting this move for a while now so I'm not really surprised. As a guy that has witnessed Devin get more and more negative over the last few years (I was lurking way before I started posting) I hope this is the move he needed to make to reverse that trend.

Devin, I'm sure this will be a really great move for both you and the site and hope you still come to the forums every once in a while to contribute to the discourse.

Godspeed sir!
You're one of the main reasons I keep coming back to this site. Your love of film has only been matched by the two critics who are responsible for my love of film: Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert.

Congratulations and looking forward to whatever it is you've got going for your near future!

Thanks so much guys. You still have a few days of putting up with me around here, so let's not have a wake just yet!
Wow. This news is fucking depressing. Devin has literally been the only reviewer on the net who I trust 100% (not to say I agree all the time, but his views are always well articulated with a pure zest and passion for film). I'm pretty new to the boards, but I've read the site since freshman year in high school to hear Devin's thoughts on the film world at large. God bless, man. You'll be missed. I'll be sure to follow if you continue to write.
