So on my current quest to watch as many classics as i can. I just ran into this.

Holy shit.

Anton Walbrook's work is fantastic. He reminds me of Robert Shaw. And the central dance piece is an all timer.

Cool to hear that you liked it. I also watched it for the first time fairly recently (about a month ago) and was shocked by how much I ended up loving it. Obviously Jack Cardiff's cinematography is simply stunning, but the performances all around really gave it a gravitas that makes it a magnificent picture. The commentary on the Criterion is fantastic, also.

The performance of the titular ballet launches the movie into the stratosphere. Incredible sequence in an already great film. The Archers (and Cardiff) were remarkable talents. See it on the big screen if you ever get the chance.
