CHUD After Devin

Devin is irreplaceable so I'm not trying. There's no bad blood. There's no sour grapes. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if you see us partnering up down the line and a decent amount of mutual love. The guy ROCKED this place, improved it intellectually, and was a horse. And controversial in the way that the best voices are. Polarizing but it seemed each year more and more people approached me and said "I've become a big fan".

He and SJR are still in my eyes the true gold standard of what this site can be.

But it's still called CHUD and it's still a sewer.

So if you'll indulge me. Here's the short term plan:

More Renn, a lot more.
More David Oliver.
More Josh Miller.
More Troy and his DVD gang.
A lot more me.

And in October, how do you feel about Steve Murphy coming back?
And Andrea (88 Inches on the MB)?
AND MORE.

We're cooking a new site, one that will be a companion to this but considerably snazzier and more mainstream. But one that allows CHUD to expand and for many of the folks and some new ones to try and push the envelope of how much content this site can deliver.

And some folks will love this and some folks won't...

It's going to be a little sillier and loose and dumb. Sorry, that one's my fault.

Love you guys. You've endured peaks and valleys with us. I'm hoping to reward you for it.

Oh, and Eileen's getting her Fetal back.
And God willing, Alex his 'Corner.
Good lineup of talent Nick, but to be honest I think more people, at this point, identify CHUD with Devin than they do with, say, YOU.

Wish you the best and I'll be here to watch, but it's probably an uphill row for ya.

Yes. Him and Beaks made me better film fans. Taught me new things every day.
Made me want to watch old and obscure shit. But always great shit.

I hope is not just this. And the current list of great writers find their own voice. And keep on the "intellectual" aspect.
I ain't goin' anywhere. My sword, my bow, my axe, and all that good stuff...
CHUD will always be in my blood, so I'm ready for what the future holds.
CHUD's a staple. Count me in.

I've shown my ass a few times in the past and not taken criticism well. This is your CHUD as much mine, so I think we'll try and be flexible.
In it for the long haul, always loved CHUD. Excited for both futures here.
I think I'll stick around.
I haven't known Chud without Devin's reviews and articles, so this will be probably take some getting used to, but I like the community, so I'll hang around.
Sounds good to me Nick.
I'm sure the site will be perfectly fine. I know I'll still be around.

Devin will be missed, though.
Great plan, Nick! Can't wait to see more articles from Renn, David, Josh, Troy, Eileen, and Alex. Also it's going to be cool to see stuff by Andrea Roth. I only know her from her excellent blog, so this will be nice.

This new site just keeps sounding better and better.
Probably a stupid question, but was this in any way related to the reaction to Scott Pilgrim?
Your enthusiasm is really a great character trait, Nick. Good for you.

You had me at "more Steve Murphy".
I just had Simple Minds Don't You Forget About Me start playing here on the radio at work as I started reading Nicks post - seemed strangely apt.

Gotta say this is the best news I've gotten in a long time

For what it's worth, I understand it's not logistically great me being on the other side of the world, but if you ever need soemone to muck in and help out in a writing capacity either on the new site or here, I'm your huckleberry.

Being a chewer has always been a pretty sweet reward as it is sir.

Really looking forward to chuds future tho I have to say, hope everything comes up Nunziata in the coming years.
Looking forward to what comes next. Nick's got a way of spotting and fostering new writing talent.
That's what I want to hear. Renn is the shit, Troy and his Merry Band of Media Misfits are the shit, you, Mr. Nunziata, are the shit.

This new site piques my interest as well.
I hope you can squeeze some Sam Strange in there somewhere if he's able to find time to contribute. I know there is a vocal margin who attack him in the comments with great venom, but fuck them in their faceless heads.

Anyone who attacks Sam Strange has no fucking idea what Sam Strange is doing.
From Mr. Strange's (who recently moved to Taiwan) twitter today:

Quote:
Personality atrophy in Taiwan: I've decided the only way to fight it is with a ton of Sam Strange articles. Any movies you want looked at?
So yeah. Also good news.
So much cool shit on the way. A lot of new fun, but we're keeping it classy. Gonna take it back to the sewer a little bit.
In whatever capacity they'll have me, I'm prepared to up my contributions significantly. I love it here.
Uncle Touchy's Spe-tit-tacular has been ok'd?!?
I'm in for the long haul. I am really excited for the new site and all the cool upcoming stuff.
I love the site and can't wait to see the changes in both design and content.

I'm very confident the site is about to improve considerably. I've always found your (Nick) sensibilities to be the driving force behind my appreciation of the site so there are no worries over here.

I just hope the added workload doesn't make the infrequent "The CHUD Show" even infrequenter!
"Infrequenter" sounds like it should be a Pixies song.
I'm a chewer true and true. I ain't going anywhere.

So.. Who's gonna be doing the "time outs"?
Not going anywhere. Before I finally got the golden ticket of membership, I stalked and lurked on this site daily. I don't feel smart and knowledgable enough about movies to post much commentary, but I fucking love this site--and honestly, the articles AND the community keeps me coming back and cracked out.

Princess Kate!

I like that dude who covered the Hellboy 3 story and Renn.
I'm all for bringing PK on as a writer. I'm serious.
Even though I'm heartbroken over Devin leaving, I feel that the CHUD gang (especially Renn) will be able to step up their game and keep this site the ultimate of film sites. Anyone who has not read Renn's I Am Love review should do so right now, as it shows the massive quantity of talent he has as a reviewer. I'm sad right now, but I look forward for what CHUD has in store for the online film community.
hard to imagine this place without devin. but change is a natural form of life and I can't wait to see what a 'more nick' chud will be like in the future

plus a new site so weeeee for that
I love Devin and I'll certainly follow what he does but let's face it. After ten years reading and five years on the board I'm not about to go anywhere. This is a place for me to hang out as much as a film site and unless Nick kicks me out I'll stay forever.
I like where your head's at Nick.

I hope the same thing. I hope it with all my might.
I'm hoping we get more archival stuff.
I hope they play stuff from the first album.
I vote Ripoll write for the site.
I vote Ripoll Grand Wazoo Of The Upper Svelte.
They've given me many chances, I always fuck it up. Highly unlikely to get another chance.
You're a good writer, Pat. Stop being such a fuckup.
I ain't going anywhere.
The return of Fetal is the best news to me.
This here place has been my favorite damn web site for such a long time. So many people have contributed to its greatness over the years, and Devin has definitely been a stand-out as he's become an increasingly badass writer/personality. Sad to see him go. CHUD always manages to get better in the long-run, though, and I imagine we're about to see better happen again. Looking forward to reading stuff from the regulars, the sometimers, and the new crew.

The CHUD SHOW has also become my friend. Think it'd be cool to have a section for it on the site where episodes can be streamed, etc. But yeah, I guess this is the wrong thread for making site suggestions.

PS - I hope I'll have an opportunity to contribute something to the site eventually, once some smoke clears from my personal wars.
Classy stuff Nick, looking forward to this futuristic CHUD.

Wild Dinosaurs with lazers on their heads couldn't drag me away from this site. Nick you're like the older brother I never had.
Will it now be referred to as the pulpishly b-grade sounding CHUD A.D?
I love the site man, plus you let me post my inane blog ever week so I aint going nowhere.

Also it can't be said enough how good a writer Andrea is, here blog should be required reading on this site.
I've been a CHUD reader since 2001. CHUD's the first site I check every morning and it'll continue to be after Devin as well. This place is just as much about the CHUD Show, the lists and Down Syndrome Vampire as it is about The Devin's Advocate.

Looking forward to the upcoming stuff. More Brown is always good, hopefully more Rappe too?

Also, wanted to add that I've very much enjoyed the videos you guys have posted in the past few days. Fuck the commenters who don't like 'em.
