Alex Appreciation

Thread Starter
With all the talk of Devin leaving it seems now is a good time to learn to appreciate what has been left behind; namely the greatness that is Alex Riviello.

Alex has continually brought the goods to the site, whether it's his reporting on unheard of genre projects or his general reporting of film news. In the last year, it's been his work that keeps me coming back time and time again. He's been a stabilizing presence on the boards with a keen insight in to under-reported films and film festivals.

I guess what I'm getting at is that while CHUD may miss Devin there's still some great writing happening and maybe it's time we look at who's left and learn to appreciate them while they are still here.

Feel free to use this thread as a way to let ALL the other writers know how much they are appreciated!

Here, here!

The man does awesome game reviews, a great voice on Chud that needs to be heard more.
I don't like him. With all the games and the horror movies and the heavy metal. What sort of horrible taste is that?
I know he's had a lot of life changes, but I hope he has more time for the site soon! A stand up guy who gave me my first shot at online film review.

Are you going to be at the NYC con in Oct, Alex?
Yep, Alex is the bee's knees. Always entertaining.
Alex has for a longtime been one the backbones of Chud. He's a passionate writer, with a wonderful sense a humor and sure can host a movie showing! He's, additionally, a pretty spectacular guy IRL.

Writing with him was truly the greatest joy I had during my stint on Chud and I hope his distinct voice one becomes more featured in the future.

One of my favorite memories of CHUD, is Alex getting Rickrolled by the Dante's Inferno PR department.

Keep fighting the good fight, Alex. Love ya!
Alex is one of CHUD's best assets, and is just as irreplaceable as Nick or Devin. As much as it might seem like it sometimes, CHUD isn't just one guy, and Alex highlights this pretty well.

That is brilliant. Not much of a gamer, but Alex is always worth reading.
Alex slowly became my favorite voice on this site, I would love to hear it more.
He may not like me, but I like him plenty. Hope he gets to review more movies in the months to come.
Alex = best dude.
Alex is still the #1 guy on CHUD.
Much love for Alex. I hope he gets a chance to revive CC.
Alex is one of the reasons i want to go to NYC.
go watch a movie at the bar he's always talking about.
Alex is great. Count me in as a major fan of David Oliver as well.
I don't like Alex, and Alex doesn't like me, but I respect his positivity. Too often when it comes to videogame reporting there's a general lack of exitement or optimism about things, Alex loves the games he loves and isn't afraid to partake in the hype and really go to bat for things he thinks will be good.
Alex unfairly deleted posts of mine from the ME2 thread, which ended up being restored once Eileen and Devin saw what he'd done. I fear that a Devin-less CHUD future with more Alex means no room for me. (just being honest about my feelings on all this CHUD turmoil)
Alex, along with the rest of the crew, is greatness. CHUD is the only place I get my video game news and Alex's coverage and reviews are muy bueno.
Alex is awesome. Whenever I see a new game review from him I check it out as soon as I can. His style cracks me up and the above poster is right, you can tell he enjoys video games.
Alex is good people, and he's one stand up guy indeed. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone to match his optimistic enthusiasm.

Not a day goes by that I don't regret having let him down years ago. And for that, if I ever run into him in person, I'll allow him to give me a (Only one, mind you) punch in the face at 100% power.

I figure it's the least I could do.
And he worked for Troma, so you know the conditions here will never get that bad

Alex fan 4 life.
Wow, thanks guys, I don't know what to say. I was as stunned as the rest of you when I heard of Devin's departure- excited for him, afraid for the site. He really is irreplaceable.

A new kid and another job has meant that I can't get as much writing done as I (or Nick) would like, but as things settle down I hope to be doing much more for whatever is in store. This is still my home, and I really do love these messageboards.

If any of you guys ever come to NYC I'm always down to meet for a drink! (Yes, even you, Spike. Kate can go fuck off, though.) I would love to get more NYC meetups together, to be honest. If only to make sure that Diva knows I go to more places than shoe stores (I swear, the one time my wife drags me into one and there's a Chewer right there...)
I'm there in October for 8 nights or so. Hope to catch you there.

I like you fine, kid. I just really like to bust balls and besides, you still owe me a dvd review for CC...

Uth, don't worry about, don't feel let down at all.

Too much love going on here lately. Sissies.

...

But seriously, Alex is cool.

Alex,

You have great insight into videogames and assuming one of your reviews comes out in a timely manner close to release date, they are an indispensable resource for any purchase making decisions on my part. You're a great writer and an astute videogame player who cares about the same stuff in games as I do

The post deletion issue is a separate thing from my feelings about you as a CHUD contributer.

No hard feelings?

The offer for booze still stands if you come again in Montreal. Just let me know more than 1 day in advance (you now have a kid; you UNDERSTAND NOW!)!

Love ya Alex.

Can I interpret this to mean we're a go on that punch?

ETA: D'oh! Obviously I had yet to notice your response.

Sorry 'bout that.

I should get around to this. He's a good dude and I enjoy Brooklyn. We should make Trevor's visit a thing.

I think it's through Alex that I got two reviews onto Creature Corner over a five-year span (Beyond Reanimator and Bad Biology). Thanks Alex!
That's Queens, fella! October would be a good time to be in the city- lots of genre fests and screenings, maybe we could all work something out. Or I could just show a movie at Hell Gate Social.
Alex is a Queens guy. He never comes to Brooklyn (except to buy shoes for his girlfriend/now wife).*

*I bumped into Alex once at a DSW. He was embarrassed to been seen shopping for shoes. I was embarrassed because his girlfriend knew me as "the chick from the Ass thread".
Count me in for the love-fest. Rivs a chud cornerstone no question.

You're a prince among men, sir.
I'll be there from the 17th to the 24th, and am down for any of that stuff.
I was staying with my cousin in Astoria, so I actually went to Hell Gate Social and met Alex there. Super nice dude, y'are. Bought Alligator and Chocolate at his DVD sale. Both worth watching, btw. I got so rocked on just 3 of those pints. My god.
Alex is good peoples. I think he rates games a bit high, but hey what can you do when almost all the games you review are good to great?

Good luck, I hope Nick is right about Creature Corner coming back, I was really sad to see that kind of dry up and go away.

Haha that's awesome. You know, in retrospect!
Yeah, we definitely laughed about it at the time. I still show people that thread. Some of those .gifs are classics.
How can you not like Alex? He comes across a genuinely nice guy, AND he likes horror movies and heavy metal, as Stelios pointed out. Great writer too. Here's to you, Alex!

Aw, shucks. While there's no way I can replace Devin on the main site I can start being more of an asshole on the boards if you guys like.

Well you were drinking that Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, if I remember correctly? That beer's a beast- 10% or something. Thanks though, sir- great to meet you there, too! It was awesome to go over my ridiculous collection with someone who appreciated it.

The funny thing is that she immediately knew who you were. Your fame extends far because of that thread.

Alex, you're a beautiful flower.

A lilac.

Yeah... a lilac.

See:
It just occurred to me: Nick, Devin, and Alex are to CHUD what Cap, Iron Man, and Thor are to The Avengers.

Still a shame to break up the trifecta, but I definitely still appreciate that CHUD still has some heavy hitters that are more than worth my time.

And Alex is definitely one of them.

Read that Nick plans to bring Creature Corner back in a big way, and I'm excited to see that aspect of Alex's writings return full force.
You can count me as being another big fan of the Alex! Sure, it'd be nice if he had the time to write more for the site and post on the message boards - but as I am also the father of a relatively new human baby, and I understand how hectic life can be.
I likes me some Alex. Even if he did send me countless bad movies during my short time as a reviewer for Creature Corner. Still, he's one of the good ones.
I just heard about this thread and that it became nothing but an Alex love fest for pages ad infintum. Couldn't let that stand!

Wait... yes, yes I could...

Love ya Alex, but in a manly way. Still waiting for that Chewer Exchange CD.

I have been, and will continue to be gone permanently, but let me just say this:

Rivs is good people and he's doing really well for himself personally and professionally. He's a dude you can be proud of.
