Genndy Tartakovsky's SYM-BIONIC TITAN - Page 2

Finally caught up on this second half of the season, or whatever we call it. No letdown. Top quality episodes with a great balance. The "origin" episode this week was fantastic, with action on a par with the best Samurai Jack episodes.

I love that Tartakovsky's brought a lot of the same experimental sensibility he brought to Samurai Jack to this.  'I Am Octus' was a particularly brilliant bit of work, and it's the sort of thing that could easily alienate a lot of the audience, but they went for it anyway.

Yeah, I'm glad this show is back and without the 1-2 year long wait it usually takes between seasons.

Been really loving this new round of episodes. Escape from Galaluna had that epic feel that is only possible with animation or film. It really felt like a movie's worth of story in 22 minutes. And I Am Octus actually had some nice depth to it. This week's episode couldn't really live up to last week's but I dig how violent this show can get when slicing up chunks of Mutradi monsters. Imho, arguably the best cartoon on TV right now.

And another time and date move.

3 more episodes scheduled for 9:30 AM for the next three Saturdays. The good news is that the ratings held, and maybe even gained a bit, for the second batch on Wednesdays. So hopefully, this keeps going for another new set of episodes once these have aired.

God dammit.  And they didn't update the bumps, either.  Last night I turn on CN five minutes to seven, they do the 'UP NEXT: A New Sym-Bionic Titan...' etc.  And then Johnny Test started.

MAN.  Posehn has posted on Twitter that CN has chosen not to renew this.  ULTI-BUMMER.

Anyone have a wealthy benefactor that can back another season?

Scuttlebutt says it was from a lack of goddamn toy sales that sealed this show's fate. This is one of the things I hate about the animation biz.

THERE WERE TOYS?  Why was I not informed?

Fuck balls.  I feel really bad for Genndy.  He can't seem to get the level of support from CN that he needs for his more heavily serialized shows.  Sure, they gave Samurai Jack a couple of seasons, but they jerked it all over the schedule so it couldn't solidify its audience.  And this only gets one season, with just as much schedule fuckery.  And of course it's both too expensive and not quite adult enough for Adult Swim, which is where it probably would've found a much stronger core audience.  Imagine this as a lead-in to Venture Brothers, and tell me it wouldn't have done gangbusters.

Very bummed about this. Great show, with great characters, great action and adventure, great heart, and even more potential.

Terrible news.

Yeah I did a search and they never made any toys. I have no idea why. The show seemed tailor made for a successful toy line.

And that last episode was pretty good. The inevitable ending and cliffhanger was well done.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

I swear, first Spectacular Spider-Man now this! I can't get a break with my animated shows!

I love this show! It's a perfect combination sci-fi/action and John Hughes movie all done in that awesome Genndy style.

Well, I guess CN wants more live action shows like, "Dude, What Would Happen If We Didn't Show Any Cartoons?"

this should have been moved to adult swim. It's too good of a show.

Agreed. I think Megas XLR would've flourished on Adult Swim as well but man that blows that a seriously creative and original show like TITAN gets the axe due to the lack of toy sales. What a bullshit reason.

I'm as down on this news as the rest of you, but I have to wonder if this show was ever going to see a conclusion. I mean, I loved Samurai Jack but I was bit bummed to discover that the story never the satisfactory conclusion it needed.

I just caught this week's episode and I take back what I said in my previous post to replace it with: Oh shit.

Yeah, Titan seems to have a much more serialized and solidly thought-out overall story than Samurai Jack did.  While I'm sure there was an end-game planned for Jack that would have been enacted had there been enough warning for cancellation, the story seemed to be more a very loose framework to hang 'wandering samurai fights robots every week' on (and to do more experimental things like the ninja fight).

With Titan, every couple of episodes we see Galaluna and how the evil general guy is slowly losing his grip on the populace, and even the Galaluna flashback episodes contain hints of a bigger picture that we still don't know about (like the king was building Octus, and thus creating TItan, before he even knew about the Mutradi attack).

Loved the end with the text from Newton.  God this show is great.

It would be nice if Marvel regained full rights to Rom:Spaceknight and Pixar brought in Tartakovsky to run a series.  Some of the human sized aliens looked a lot like Dire Wraiths and  Alana's armor was very close to Starshine's.

Titan was a great series that really hit it's stride there at the end.  I'm not too hopefull for a wrap up movie or episode seeing as how we still haven't gotten one for Samurai Jack and I doubt Genndy will want to do anything for Cartoon Network in the near future.

Bringing Genndy into the Pixar family seems like the right move to make. They are keen on exploring 2D, he could probably do some interesting work there that isn't so focused on hitting the daytime/primetime Cartoon Network demographic. Plus he could work on a feature film scale, which would fit his sometimes epic style. Or, he could do something in 3D, which would also be awesome for different reasons.
