Searched for a thread, couldn't find one, yadda yadda yadda.

Anyway, just watched this tonight after checking out the trailer on Trailers From Hell (beware the commentary...there be spoilers). It's a pretty great satire that feels really contemporary in a lot of ways (there are a couple characters that would not be out of place at a Tea Party rally), not to mention it's uproariously funny. The cast is uniformly great, but Dick Van Dyke really stands out as a preacher who is torn between doing the right thing and him impending fame. Of course, Bob Newhart and his crazy eyes just steal every single scene he's in, and the little old lady who hates Commies is a stitch.

Like I said, the movie feels really modern in a lot of ways, and the humor all feels relevant, especially in today's political climate. I still can't believe it was made nearly 40 years ago. At any rate, it's a really good film that is bordering on greatness. It occurred to me while watching that it would make the perfect double feature with Thank You For Smoking.
