I just discovered that this game is being made yesterday, because of a pre-order push on Steam. It's not coming out before 2011, but the gameplay videos did intrigue me. It looks like Mirror's Edge had a baby with a decent FPS. I'm not buying in enough to pre-order yet but I'll definitely be keeping my eyes on it.

Love the look of this one.

Splash damage are the real deal when it comes to multiplayer shooters. Quake Wars: Enemy Territory was ridiculously fun if you could put in the time to follow the skill curve. And this looks great. But they will have to make it more casual than they're used to, for it to make any kind of impression. People have become spoiled by MW style constant hand holding and back patting.

I figured it was about time to bump this thread since Brink is coming out in a few days. Is anyone else excited for this game? I think it looks like a fun take on class-based multiplayer. I was definitely looking forward to it before, but a few recent videos have gotten me much more excited for it.

I think it looks great for fans of multiplayer, but I'm sadly not one of them fellas.

I've got this paid off on preorder and it looks fantastic. Like Team Fortress on crack. Sad thing is, this game needs sales to keep it running as it's MP exclusive, so while I hope it sells well, I don't think it will

I can't play FPS games on consoles, and my comp is finally too old to play something I care about.  I'm sure I'll upgrade fairly soon as it hurts that I can't play this so hopefully it sticks around a bit.

Very curious about this game but I won't get it unless its amazing.

It is incorrect to say that Brink is multiplayer only. Technically you can play it by yourself, but I doubt that it will be as good that way. You can also set it up to play co-op with friends if you want. I think the game looks awesome, and I'll be picking it up next week as long as the reviews aren't abysmal.

The few online reviews I've read say besides the SMART movement system, Brink just isn't very good.

Most of the reviews I've read seem to agree that on paper Brink has a lot of great ideas that fall flat in the execution. They say the SMART system is cool, but the environments aren't built to take advantage of it. The multiple objectives thing is a cool idea, but rarely is it worth doing them instead of the main objective. They say that most maps end up in a stalemate because you are always running from your spawn to the objective, dying, and respawning to start again. They say that the secondary command posts are a pretty good idea in theory, but not being able to spawn there makes them practically useless. Pretty much everybody agrees that the bots in Brink are completely stupid (and the extended gameplay video I watched this morning certainly proved that to be true).  Apparently you can unlock all of the weapon attachments in less than an hour if you want to by playing the few challenge maps, and apparently it doesn't take very long to max out your character either.

So it seems like Brink hasn't translated from the page to actual game very well. It's too bad. I think that Brink certainly looks like it should be a fun game (and I still may pick it up), but poor execution will squander any potential a game might have had.

and apparently the matchmaking is atrocious. goodbye online community.

I've got a friend who tells me the game is brilliant, but lacking in actual content. It's apparently ridiculously easy to see and earn everything in the game, definitely taken off my 'to buy' list.

After reading some reactions on other forums, it seems like the game is a lot of fun when you're playing with other people, and especially your friends. However, it is also suffering from some weird lag issues right now where some people report it playing just fine while others get a slideshow. Supposedly the day one patch fixes a lot of issues, but the lag issue wasn't completely fixed. Maybe it will be better after yet another patch? Who knows.

Enjoying the gameplay so far. The SMART engine is pretty cool and like it's namesay it runs very smooth. There isn't a whole lot of content in it though and you can level up obnoxiously fast. But it's fun at the moment and the acheivments are real easy. I hope it has a good community though because the game has tremendous potential. If it sells well than Bethesda will roll out the big bucks for a sequeal.

Nowhere near as mediocre as Breach. The funny thing about this game is it feels like I've played this before, in the form of Monday Night Combat, except they want full price. It's not worth plopping down full price on the game despite trying to do some new things with an old dog. Initially, the shine hooks you in - this is slightly more different than the Call of Duties, and it is refreshing to be shepherded into focusing on good team play instead of douching out your k/d ratio. Good team play offline would be nice if the ai bots played a little smarter in some instances. They have a tendency to focus on secondary objectives instead of following your lead as you try to work on primary goals...it's annoying because you can't tell them do this fucking thing with me already so we can win. I've seen several instances of dumb ai's running around with the football object not sure what path nodes to follow, of which I was thankful enemy ai's would come along to kill them so I could pick up the football myself - to only discover none of my ai teammates make any concerted effort to cover my ass as I race to the finish line.

Online is hit and miss, and very choppy at times. They've had a day 1 patch come out, and before posting this, a day 2 patch. Still connecting to others or getting smooth gameplay is an issue on my end. This game could be fun if you could setup some coop with friends, but really most people are staying away based on initial feedback/reviews so the community behind this game will move on to whatever else is working.

I'll probably spend another day with the sucker to wrap up the terrorist campaign and then mail it back. If this were a downloadable game it wouldn't be so bad to recommend it, but then most people have other more capable multiplayer options open to them. Pity I won't be sticking around with this one - I did become fond of my Gordon Freeman-esque creation.

Kinda annoyed I paid full price for this, feels like I'm rewarding a developer for releasing a half finished product. Given that it was due to release in late 2010, and was held back at polishing, I'm kind of shocked at how glitchy and reductive this feels. Aside from the visual design there's very little to like about the game, and having retarded AI and laggy multiplayer is just the worst. Playing co-op against the AI is like smashing your head against a brickwall but most multiplayer games are just so laggy they're unplayabble. It generally feels like it was't properly playtested  and the entire feel is that of a very, very, expensive XBLA game.

It's ridiculous that this game has been in development for 2+ years and it releases like this? Does Splash Damage even have a QA team? If so, they must be fucking incompetent morons. This has to be one of the worst launches I have seen in a game since Black Ops(which had MASSIVE matchmaking issues, on PC anyways). The cherry on the top is the meager 8 maps included with this overly inflated priced game.

Gotta say, the art style is pretty cool though.

In case anyone's interested, you can download this game for free and play it all weekend from Steam. I was never really interested in it, but for free, what the hell. Might get a few hours of fun from it.

Brink is probably good for a few hours of fun, provided the game doesn't have the severe lag problems anymore.  I'm assuming they continued to patch it after the first one didn't completely fix the problem, but I haven't really been paying attention either.

Lag was only the most pressing of Brink’s problems. I think it was undone by horrible bot AI, an ugly as all hell visual aesthetic, and muddy objectives/enemy encoding. Even after playing it for a week solid I was hard pressed to actually differentiate between enemies and allies.

Well, those were some problems for sure, but you could still get a bit of fun out of the game when playing it for FREE.
