More emotional than eerie, the supernatural drama The Eclipse delivers enough chills to keep you on edge but doesn't fall into familiar genre tropes.

This movie was outstanding. Moody, gorgeous, moving and with two of the best jump scares I've ever seen. Ciaran Hinds can anchor a movie, I'd love to see him in another lead roll rather than just "badass background guy." A well-built drama with well-built scares, it delivered for me on all levels.

Yup. Totally agree with you. Glad you dug it, too.

And you're right: that jump scare in the beginning was fucking great. Gave me serious chills. Immediately set the tone but had the awareness to never get cheap. Plus Hinds is a beast.

Upon your recommendation, I instant'd this film yesterday.

Tell your sister, you were right. Sweet jeebus, what a suspenseful film! Hinds was great, very melencholy, and it was great to see Hjiele again. And I thought Quinn played a great drunk. I liked how his character got progressively more and more indignant.

But cripes, that first scare actually had me going for my eyes! I had to mentally stop myself from looking away, covering my eyes, or screaming. It felt like it lasted 30 seconds. I'm 43 years old and felt like a little girl at a Halloween haunted house! After that, I was on edge the rest of the film, and still jumped at everything that came after.

I loved how it turned out too. I will highly recommend this to my film-lover friends, and commend you on a great review, Ryan.

Nice! Thanks, Chris. Glad you dug it, too.

It's one of those movies that would be cool to see gain a following since it was such a small picture with no marketing -- at least, not here in the States. It's definitely a must-see for suspense fans.
