Saturday Night Live, season 36

Damn. He was one of the better elements of the current cast.

I kind of wish that Lorne Michaels would just man up and fire the whole cast and writing staff and get new blood in their again like they did back in the 80s and 90s. This cast creep they've been doing the last 5 years is killing the chemistry and cohesiveness of the show.
Ouch. Now if they can just get Hader to leave, I can stop watching the show entirely.
I can't believe Donald Glover auditioned a few years ago, but didn't get the gig. A perfect fit for potraying Obama. He could've been Murphy great (or at least as near to that as possible).

Wyatt Cenac auditioned for Obama, too. He didn't get the gig, obviously, but I think it turned out for the best. Guy's a rock star at TDS!
I didn't know Cenac auditioned for SNL, talk about a missed opportunity the guy absolutely kills me on The Daily Show. It sucks Forte is leaving but at least on the plus side I'll probably never have to watch a MacGruber sketch again. I'm still excited to see the movie since I missed it in theaters but the sketch is beyond played out.
Damn, one of the only reasons left to watch the show. Why couldn't it be Wiig or Armison leaving.

I actually liked the MacGruber sketches 1000X better than the movie. Plus I'll miss the Falconer.

Replace fire the entire staff with fire Lorne Michaels and you have a better start. He's the problem.

More Abby Elliot. And she's dating Fred Arminson now.

What the fuck? What demon did he offer sacrifices to in order to land her?

Didn't he recently marry the non-Christina Hendricks chick from MAD MEN? That over already?!
Elisabeth Moss? Yes. Sad times.
They could replace Forte with Alec Baldwin, then change the name to Saturday Night Awesome.

Yeah, Michaels is getting near the end of his rope, but he needs to find someone with quality from within the show to replace him. They don't really have that right now.

She's hot. Then I realized her dad is Chris "take my strong hand" Elliot. WHAT... He. Made. Her. No Way...

Three new hires are apparent. Paul Brittain, Taran Killam, Vanessa Bayer.

3 more generic white people. Glad they believe in diversity. Bring back In Living Color.
The handful of post Ferrell SNLs I watched, Forte always seemed like a talented guy who was given mostly shit to work with. MacGruber was crap, but I loved that character who was obsessed with bayonets.
After watching The Brothers Solomon last week, I think Forte should hold on to SNL like grim death.

Forte might not have been a star, but he had some great moments, like the spelling bee sketch, or his monologue in this funeral sketch.
Forte made it weird, injecting the dull, dull proceedings with much-needed WTF-ness. Jeff Montgomery, Fly High Duluth, and the creepy guy who goes on an Obama rant at his cousin's wedding are all-timers. I will miss him on the show.
Fly High Deluth is the pinnacle of Forte's SNL career. I'm pissed I cannot find video of this.

OMG! Thanks! I swear I did active searches for this and never once found it.

ETA: Also, Forte's Zimmerman and The Falconer were glorious!
Same. This will probably be yanked soon. Armisen's drum solo face is legendary.
Jesus, could Samberg at least PRETEND he's playing the guitar in that bit?

Typical modern SNL -- goes at least five minutes beyond funny.
That's an old man's comment, Dickson! You have to at least credit the current incarnation with being willing to do a sketch that's barely two minutes long. This felt like a goof on those early 90s, 11 minute sketches. And it comes back around to hysterical by the time the drum solo starts.

Now go take your nap!
It's Will Forte's commitment that makes this for me. He will not compromise and I thank him for that. Ya dig?!
Weird timing by Forte, if indeed it was his decision. The (undeserved) box office failure of MacGruber doesn't suggest that there's a Will Ferrell-style future for him on the big screen. Maybe he was worried about becoming Fred Armisen.

Interesting that the current day SNL is struggling to produce a breakout movie star like genertions past. Before Hot Rod, I thought that Samberg would hit Sandler status, but that's not looking likely these days. Jason Sudekis seems to typify this cast - nice enough, blandly appealing, but only good for supporting turns in Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore movies.
I've just never been a fan of the "Do a weird thing over and over again for the duration of the sketch" school of comedy.
That sketch had more to say about escalation than The Dark Knight and Kick-Ass combined.

I'm still waiting for a studio to take a chance on putting Bill Hader as the lead in a comedy and I'm not counting Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. If there are any doubters as to his acting chops or writing skills, look up The Line on Crackle.

Yeah, I think Hader will get his shot pretty soon.
Falconer time travel was one of my favorite recent SNL sketches. Will anyone on the cast step up to fill the non-sequitur void left by Forte?

The better question: which new Kristen Wiig character will we see this season?

-- Getcha predictions in early if you wanna win --

1) Introducing "Wendy", a spastic, balding cancer patient who shows up at a dinner party and starts farting on all the food. Nobody wants to tell her to leave because they don't want to appear insensitive.

2) Introducing "Nanook", the newest female cast member of Jersey Shore! She's hip, she's sexy, and she's a gorilla or a caveman or some shit.

That second one sounds horribly plausible.

I hope so, I think he's extremely talented, plus he's a huge movie buff. Apropos of nothing, he's programmer on Turner Classic in September.

Has Armisen replaced Darrell Hammond and Tim Meadows in the "At least I'm not..." SNL pantheon?

Not bad tonight. Sad to see Slate go so soon, but at least I won't confuse her with Pedrad anymore. And whoa-- we have TWO black guys now!

Hard to tell much about the new kids since they didn't get to do much. Seemed like most of the material went to the Poehler posse.

It was a more competent show last night, or perhaps I should say, I didn't cringe as much as usual. The cast has a chemistry and charisma. (Abby Elliott in particular continues to shine --she has all the makings of a show star/ Carvey-like cast anchor) The writing, however, is still verging on the pathetically awful.

Shocking. His impression was good. Saw some youtube clips and he does a better Denzel. And I think I only saw Keenan once so that's a plus.

Can't wait for Jane Lynch.
I don't know whether to give the guy whose idea it was to put Katy Perry in that Elmo shirt the Mr. Obvious Award or my everloving thanks.

I'll admit that Tiny Hat gave me a chuckle.
Jay's Will Smith bit was excellent, I thought. The fake RNC commercial was somewhat amusing, and I always get a laugh out of Armisen wheeling across the stage during update. Not a very memorable show, otherwise.

Count me down as another sad to see Slate gone so quickly.

moovyphreak, you sir are a gentleman and a scholar.
I'm so bloody sick of her.
Best part of the RNC ad was the text below it:
"Paid for by the RNC...

...and 70% of the DNC."
Katy Perry in the Elmo shirt and school girl outfit...the MVP of the Show.
For whatever reason, the Timberlake Act II Act or whatever got a laugh out of me. The rest was Zzzzzz, Ms. Perry's decolletage notwithstanding.
The David Patterson bit always gets me. Liked Jay Pharoe and the Katy Perry bit. The rest was meh.
Jay Pharoah will be the next breakout star. I'm calling it now so my precognitive abilities will be recognized when he fills this generation's Eddie Murphy void.
While it's nice to see Morgan Freeman and freakin Earnest Borgnine on tonight's show, I would like to vote that we table the fucking "What Up With That" skit for a month or nine.
The new and guy nailed Miley and Depp. Hope they have actual character because SNL isn't MADtv or Studio 60.
