Hell, at the very least, can we bring this back to film land and steer the argument toward differing taste in movies? Like, Nick, come clean: you agree with D's Dark Knight review? How about Toy Story 3? And while we're at it, the glowing praise for Friday the 13th ("But of these kids there is one stand out, one actor who is so fucking great in creating a complete douchebag that I want to give his name its own paragraph - Travis Van Winkle." Ha, because we all remember Travis). Devin, what Nick favorites have you completely disagreed with?

Otherwise, I NEVER thought I'd say this, but I'd keep it private, it's getting really petty.

I think Nick and Devin gave The Dark Knight the same score.

Facebook/Twitter compelled me to weigh in on this, even though I haven't posted in awhile. First of all, this isn't 4chan, so the image posting is getting pretty redundant.

As far as the issue at hand, it sucks to see this happening. I've always respected Nick and this site so it's ashame to see Devin calling him a deadbeat. As fsr as I'm concerned, Devin and controversy have always gone hand in hand, so this whole thing isn't really surprising.

The surprising part is Devin selling the reviews to Harry. That's just low...I mean, the man who essentially made your career what it is, as far as exposure...you couldn't give him the benefit of the doubt and honor your part even when he told you the check was in the mail? I mean it's not his fault you have a problem with PayPal. And Devin, you're a great writer. But you're where you are mainly because of Nick. Plain and simple. And this demonstrates a lack of integrity on your part. I mean, a man has to get paid for his services but this has been handled poorly to say the least.

I know I haven't said anything that hasn't really already been said, but just had to speak on this.

I'd say he's where he is because he's a great writer. Nick just gave him a place to show that, but that would have meant nothing had Devin not had the chops to do something with it.

And selling the reviews to AICN? Hey, Jack Kirby went to work for DC. It happens.
Isn't this a little different? Didn't he go to a conference representing CHUD instead of AICN?
I want to make this clear. I'm with CHUD and Nick. Not going anywhere, however...

Devin is where he is mainly because he's Devin, and a great writer. He could be a pain in the ass on the boards to some people, and this is obviously the time for him to go, but you can't take away what makes Devin, Devin.

Again, 100% Nick fanboy.
Hadn't he already publicly left CHUD before attending Fantastic Fest?
Some of the most talented people, though, never even get an opportunity to display their talents on a recognized platform. I feel like that's what CHUD was for Devin, and no CHUD (or no Nick) equals no Devin being where he currently is. Just my opinion

Yes but he was apparently there on CHUD's behalf. Whether the relationship was over or not, he was representing the site

Totally agree, he's a fantastic, insightful writer. I always read his stuff. He'd make it anywhere that isn't CHUD and probably be the best writer on staff.

But CHUD got his name out there, did it not?

I think this is a wonderful, insightful thread. I love learning about behind-the-scenes workings of any public profession, including online film critique. Plus the tut-tutting of all the messageboard nannies is just icing on the cake.

I hope for nothing but the best for all involved, but I'm guessing Nick's gonna second-guess hiring another writer and moving him to Hollywood.
Yeah, at this point the toothpaste is out of the tube. And both sides seem to have valid points, so this feels a little bit like he said, he said.
I guess I can see how some of you are enjoying the thread, but - not to be a nanny - this whole thing is just really bumming me out. I'm just sad for both parties.

And people really need to let go of their AICN/Harry hate. Srsly. Though perhaps it might've been nice for Harry to run this by Nick first if he knew the pieces were supposed to run on Chud. Nice, if not exactly required by ethics.

Someone's gonna feel really sheepish when they're flipping through their latest copy of Bear Magazine and the check that was wedged inside comes plopping out and spills onto the floor.

I moved myself to LA.

Bye, guys, it's been fun.
Well, apologies then.
Great job Mr. Singer :-)

See you later Devin, still looking forward to your reviews, wherever you show up. I also hope you and Nick can reconcile, this just sounds like one big misunderstanding.
ElCap, haven't seen you around much lately. All is well?

And just to reiterate, I hope for nothing but the best for all involved.
Well it ends with a whimper. Guess he didn't like my offer.

Done and done.
That good bye should have been done 8 pages ago. Hope he still ripes the check up.
I'm off to talk about movies and shit - who wants to come?
Yeah, well, a guy in a DeLorean dropped this off at my house earlier today, so I guess it works out eventually:

25 YEARS OF CHUD Room 7AB, 3:30

Take a walk down memory lane with creator/publisher Nick Nunziata as we talk twenty-five years of reviews, interviews, set visits, lists, hilarity and that ever-present CHUD Man, Uncle Mitch! Joining Nick on stage will be all your favorite Chuds: Devin Faraci, Dave Davis, Alex Rivello, Brian Koukol, Renn Brown, Eileen, Ryan “Rotten” Turek, Mark Wheaton, Joram Manka, Fred Topel, Lex G, Taylor Whittaker, Shecky Foster and current editor, Chien-Wu Ban as they discuss the trials and tribulations of building one of the best known film sites on the internet. Moderated by Time.com film critic, Jeremy Smith. Free issues of Movie Insider #4 will be given away at the door.

(Passes to the Lucky Nightsticks show at Petco will be given away, first come first served)
I'd go to Petco to see The Lucky Nightsticks live.

So Steve Murphy almost certainly will have perished in some freak sexual accident by this point I'm assuming?

He is our David Carradine afterall...

This thread is simulatneously fascinating and sad.

This is really the only place on the web that I've ever stuck a flag, and that probably won't change, I'll also follow Devin onto whatever his (needlessly hush hush) next project is.

With that said, it is sad to watch two people come to an impasse due to communication issues.

The only person in the thread who has come out ahead is Mr. Noble.
Closing this.

It was interesting. But I think I'm done discussing Devin and I think the site needs to look forward.
