I'm sorry, but Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy shouldn't be put in the same sentence. SOA is a good show, but besides Katey Seagal who was just incredible last season, it didn't deserve to crack the top 5.

Those are just the two shows on right now that have a lot of buzz, lots of critical acclaim, and short runs I can get caught up on before they start again. Not comparing the two.

God, you guys have a real touchy hard-on for Breaking Bad, don't you? I love my shows, but not with that kind of blind devotion. Cue Tandy coming in to talk about me sucking Aaron Sorkin's dick or some shit. Which I don't.

Season 3 of Breaking Bad was my favorite season of any show ever I think. So I'll cop to blind devotion I guess.

Although with all the bullshit you were spouting about Cranston not deserving his award it would be nice if, you know, you'd actually watched his fucking work.

I'll point you to where I said that I liked Cranston's work (and I liked what I saw of the first season A LOT); I just had other guys I would have liked to see win.

Blind devotion? We watch it, it's an incredible show. What's blind about that?
I know. You had other horses in the race who were just as deserving if not moreso than Cranston, and you know this because you saw an episode 2 years ago.

I'm just fucking with you, but that's essentially been your point.
To be fair, though, considering Jon Hamm submitted The Gypsy and the Hobo and Bryan Cranston submitted Full Measures, which granted is great but not exactly a Walt showcase, I think some argh!ing is warranted.

Hey, I saw it like six months ago! I take offense to that!

Look, I believe Breaking Bad is great, and if it surpasses shows like Friday Night Lights or Mad Men, to name a couple of shows I love with the same type of passion that you guys do for Breaking Bad, I'll fully do a mea culpa thing. What I have seen of the show is great. There are a lot of shows on television right now that are great.

The blind devotion things from people being astonished, nay, outraged that somebody put it in the same sentence with another show that just so happens to be on TV right now.

I'm totally busting balls here, but that's essentially my point.

As it was posted on Breaking Bad virgin thread, the season one which you saw is like a prologue. It gets better on season 2 and it serves as a better showcase for Cranston & the supporting cast too.

That autistic woman nearly pulled the producer's tit out of her dress with her bear hug.
I love both Mad Men and Breaking Bad and don't think it matters who wins an emmy. They ignore great shows all the time. It's cool enough that these boutique cable shows no one watches get recognized at all.

I'm watching Sons of Anarchy right now, and while I'm still really early on it, it's got a ways to go before it comes near those two. Still fun, though.
I love Sons but it has never gotten the type of critical praise that Mad or Bad gets. Outside of Segal I've never heard anyone talk about it being snubbed for anything. I guess I'd have nominated it, beat the hell out of Lost last season, but I doubt there's much outcry anywhere over it not being showered with trophies.
Sad that Conan lost. Even though you knew it was gonna be TDS or Colbert. Those two will split this award until they go off the air.

Happy that Glee didn't win though. Sorry, I just can't stand the show.

I dunno, Full Measures has a very Emmy-worthy moment in it: The "laundromat" scene. Bryan goes from simpering coward to badass magnificent bastard within the span of two sentences. Anyone who can take the act of reciting an address and turn it into a massive "Fuck You and your boss" moment deserves trophies.

I'm pissed that H. Jon Benjamin didn't win for Archer, and even MORE pissed that he lost to a one-shot guest star on The Simpsons.
Yeah.. I would have submitted "The Fly" personally, but that moment is Emmy worthy.
Yeah, but the Gypsy and the Hobo has a bazillion Emmy moments and uses the full extent of Jon Hamm's skill. Had it been Gypsy vs Fly though, I have no clue what I'd be saying right now.

The Emmy's will NEVER miss a chance to give an award to a movie star. It makes them feel like they're sitting at the cool table.

And yeah, Benjamin losing is garbage. He should've won for these 45 seconds alone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3-zaTr6OUo

If I were an emmy voter, I'd disregard the submitted episode in favor of the full measure of their performances all season. Because as an emmy voter, I'd be sure to watch the best shows on TV.

But the way Cranston said "Yeah!" at the end of Full Measures deserves some sort of award.

Man I'm late to this party!

I loved that the chick from Vampire Diaries did a big ol' leap into the Glee club for that opening number. Maybe now people will google her and go watch her show.

I haven't seen Breaking Bad so I'll just golf clap knowingly for their wins. Same with Mad Men (apparently I'm too busy watching Vampire Diaries and Friday Night Lights).

Loved Archie Panjabi winning. Not just because of her name. Her work on The Good Wife is so good and subtle--much like most of that casts' work. It even makes up for Grey's Anatomy getting completely shut out (at least three of that shows' actresses deserved nominations whatever).

Edie Falco's win was bullshit and every person who voted for her should be slapped. I was totally rooting for Toni Collette's hella showy work on United States of Tara.

Was Sedwick's win for her work on The Closer as a whole? I mean she does a good job with that character. But it's kind of like Huge Laurie's work on House. When a character is written like that you have to be an absolutely awful actor to fuck it up. I would have loved to see Britton or Margulies win it.

And I loved that Modern Family pulled in so many wins. It's a fun show and waaaay more consistent then Glee.

I think the worst part of the Emmys was realizing how desperately I need to catch up with everything AMC's putting out.
The fact that Community was relegated to just doing commercial bits made me sad. Way funnier than Modern Family, though I do think that show is great.

Also, due to my work/school I've mainly been watching short comedies this year and haven't seen many hour-long dramas. If I cared more, I'd have kicked over my TV for that montage of Dramas that spoiled every fucking show on TV!

Liked this bit from Sepinwall:

This was the final year of the broadcast network contract to carry the Emmys, and there had been rumblings that if all the big awards again went to cable shows (or network shows with cable-level ratings like "30 Rock"), the contract might not be renewed, since ABC, NBC, et al didn't want to pay to air a three-hour ad for HBO every year. But enough popular network shows won in big categories (particularly on the comedy side) that I imagine the arrangement will continue.
Also, some of the post-mortem points out that because of when Breaking Bad is airing next year, it'll be ineligible for the 2011 awards for best tv 2010-2011. Which means we can all look forward to Dustin Hoffman over Kyle Chandler and Jon Hamm. That is, if Luck is any good. Could be another John From Cincinatti* that nobody watches.

*Fuck you, that was a good show.

Except for Best Supporing Actor, Drama, which will go to Peter "The Dink" Dinklage for Game of Thrones. Boardwalk will probably sweep a bunch of tech and writing awards, but the Emmys love them some movie actors doing tv. Makes them feel like they have a seat at the big kids table.
If you could have read thought bubbles above the heads of people in the audience after the opening: "My fucking agent better explain why I wasn't part of Glee Born To Run". Easily my favorite part of the show.

(Also, Rath, head over to the "Things you want CHUD.com to do" thread and ask for a formal footnote feature on the MB.)

Is "Thrones" even going to be eligible? I thought it was a fall 2011 premiere.

Besides Boardwalk has Buscemi and Shannon.

Fuck if they won't be nominated.

I'd put some money on this as well.

I sorta love that the major networks seem to be marginalized more each year. Pull your heads out of your asses and maybe learn how to do things better in the digital age and we'll like your shows, too.

Granted, that won't happen, but it's a nice thought.
Nah, what the networks will take away is, "People will pay money to watch good shows."

It was seriously my favorite opening to an awards show since Crystal in his prime. And it may have even been better than that.
Would have been nice if Reyes and the Vampire Diaries girl had gotten proper intros, Reyes because he deserved more than just popping up and joining in and the girl because I had no idea who the hell she was.

If you missed the opening
I just loved when Jorge showed up. He makes everything better.

Conan had a great opening too. Only Network missing was HBO. I bet most people didn't even know who the CW chick was. Took me a minute to realize who it was.

Supposed to be a Spring 2011 show, if the latest info is correct. And yeah, Dink as Tyrion, with the material he's got, should sweep the category.

Yeah, I had no idea who the VAMP DIARIES girl was, either, but she was definitely game. The lack of a proper introduction for Jorge was made up for by the huge crowd response when he belted out his one solo line. McHale's hijacking of the camera gets a pretty good cheer, too. (Uh, yeah, I've watched it, like, 10 times now. So?)

Also, I'm one of those weirdos who thinks MAD MEN is overrated, but, even still, if Jon Hamm jumped off a cliff, I wouldn't be able to follow him fast enough.

That's not always true. The year Lonsome Dove was nominated it won only for best director. Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones, Diane Lane, and Anjelica Houston all lost. It even lost best miniseries to the pretentious, bloated and at times downright silly Winds of War seguel.

Of course, there will be that awkward moment where they have to stack a couple of phone books next to the microphone.

Saw Temple Gradin, deserved every one of those emmy's.
Finally someone on CHUD saw it that didn't hate it. I saw it months ago and thought it was a very heartfelt story about Temple's life and acheivement.

During the Emmys I was, funnily enough, reminded of Kirk Lazarus' advice in Tropic Thunder.

Seriously though, I liked it alot, and I thought Temple was a hoot at the Emmys.

I watched the opening a couple of times today. It's definitely the strongest opening since the Conan opening where he inserted himself into various shows. And it made me realize that every man of a certain age has a Springsteen impression somewhere in him, even if his isn't very good. I thought Jon Hamm did an excellent job at doing the Springsteen growl while still coming off as decent, Fallon was okay, but he does better impressions, and I have to give Joel McHale some kind of credit for barely trying at all.

But all of this reminded me that I should get caught up on Community.

Ditto.

Can't get past Danes accent to watch the movie. It might be an accurate depiction, but I can't listen to that for two hours.
Just watched the opening on Youtube. The first thing that struck me was that it looked like Cory Monteith lost some weight for the 2nd season. I remember noticing that he often wore loose baggy clothing in the first season. I found that kinda refreshing. I guess no more.
Lea Michele lost weight too. Do not like.

For some reason, I didn't notice it on her. Terrible, no? But I certainly don't doubt your eyes.
