2010 DragonCon Parade

I'm thinking of taking my 3 year old down to the DragonCon parade on Saturday. Does anyone have any tips? Is three too young for this crowd? Where would you suggest to watch that would avoid the biggest crowds and maybe have some shade?

It's at 10 AM, so usually it's not too hot. I'd get there by 9:45 at the latest. Most people with small kids just move to the front and sit on the curb. They gave away candy last year, but I think I read that the city of Atlanta asked them not to do that this year because of the trash factor. And yeah, 3 years old is fine. Even for some of the scarier costumes, it's out in broad daylight, and there's all kinds of stuff going on, because folks on the sidewalks will most likely be in costume as well.

Friend of mine took her Star Wars-obsessed five-year old last year and he loved it. He wore his Jedi costume and a bunch of the stormtroopers stopped along the way to play fight with him.

We usually set up on Baker, which is at the end of the parade route, and in the shade.

Yeah, they save the boob paint for the late night stuff. I hate you all because I cannot go to DragonCon this year, or see the parade. Have fun!

Well, I missed part of it, but what a perfect day to be outside! Awesome.

I spent late last night at the 'Dub Your Own Hentai' gathering. I am ashamed...but I did it twice.

And by "ashamed" you mean proud enough to come post about it here, right? That was the absolute best thing of the whole weekend. Best panel EVER. Can you remember some of the best lines? We need to make a record of those before they're forgotten forever.

Thanks for the tips about the parade. We had a great time. Weather was perfect. Only flaw was relying on MARTA. We ended up hoofing it from Five Points to Baker Street after waiting a bit. Normally that wouldn't be a problem, but when you have four under four year olds with you it can be a bit challenging. We'll get there earlier next year to stake out a better bit of curb.

Our little guy was cool with the whole thing except for the Neverworld folks. Two ladies freaked him out a bit. Otherwise it was all good with him. I was pleased to see the Stig there. Some say he only comes to Atlanta for the bar-b-que and others say that he was at DragonCon to hook up with a lady Storm Trooper...

The two worst (best?) ones that stick out to me were:

1) Mentioning the cross on the guy's mask meant that he was raping that chick in the name of God.

2) After the guy said his mom had no vagina, I made her say that she could just use the hatchet that the girl outside had earlier to make one.

And also--"Later...at the Hall of Justice..."

HA! yea, you came up with the best lines over all. The Forrest Gump guy came up with some pretty good filler when nobody else would say anything. "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna clit." Stupid, but hilarious in context at 2 a.m. I think the Hall of Justice bit might have been the absolute best, though. It was competely non-sexual, made everyone crack up, and you managed to fit it in there twice.

Also:
"That wasn't what I expected."
"It never is!" (yes, I had to get in on the action at least once.)
*all the men in the audience groan*

Should I be disturbed that a thread about taking a 3 year old to a parade has transitioned into a conversation about dubbing hentai? Because somehow I'm just not...
