WTF with Marc Maron - Page 2

He might be beneath their notice. It would be nice if this random incident kicked him up a notch though.
Yeah, I'm absolutely fine with Maron getting more exposure at the expense of butthurt right-wingers.
I'm for anything that comes at the expense of butthurt right-wingers, and it's icing on the cake if that something is Maron getting a bump.
I made* this video of Marc talking to El Chupacabra. No idea how either of them keep a straight face.

In the latest episode he says that Louis CK and Ira Glass episodes are imminent. Very excited about that.

Yeah, the Ira Glass one has me particularly giddy. I only hope that Maron busts out his pretty great Ira Glass impression at some point during that interview.
I've heard a couple of interviews with Glass and don't find him a particularly interesting study when he's on the other side of the desk. He's obviously very good at what he does though, and if anyone can make an interview with him sing it'll be Marc.
I'm not so interested in Glass' life as I am interested as to see how openly hostile Marc will be, and how Glass will respond.
What makes this last interview awesome/painful is how fucking hammered Bob Saget seems to be. Secondly reading the comments of the article get's the blood boiling,"gee, this comedian said an off-color joke. Who's the real bigot, liberals?" Um, you still are, asshole.
"We're all comics, and there's nothing we can do about it" is sort of a brilliant line.
Actually, I just thought he sounded like he had a cold. His voice was different.

If he was hammered, then my hat's off to him, because he was still insanely quick with a line.
Have we figured out why episodes 1-50 are gone? Have they flown away to podcast heaven?
I wouldn't be surprised if Marc is planning on releasing some sort of DVD of the first 50 podcasts. Adam Carolla did that with the first six months of his podcast.
Marc mentioned in passing in a tweet the other day that the early episodes would be back up soon. Maybe reediting/remastering, adding the current intro/theme to make them consistent?

Just listened to the Nick Swardson episode. Kind of fascinating how a guy can deal with a coke addiction and currently (from how it sounds) be an alcoholic, and still he comes across as middle of the road and boring.

Probably when he called Click "a really deep movie, actually". It's hard to recover my respect when someone, who is a working screenwriter and actor, has such shitty taste.
The first 50 may end up being pay-to-downloads. Other successful podcasts like Dan Carlin's Hardcore History use this model and it seems to work well.

I've enjoyed Swardson's work, but he really didn't come across well in general.

Has anyone listened to the David Wain episode? The whole "Troy" section is amazingly weird and brilliant. Or really scary. I'm not sure.
He did stand-up (but no interview, unfortunately) on Craig Ferguson tonight. It was pretty great.

I'm really interested to hear what Maron has to say about Greg Giraldo, as I know they were pretty close. I'm hoping he touches on it in one of the upcoming episodes, but at the same time, I know it's going to be pretty tough to listen to. I just think if anyone could give the guy a proper eulogy, it's Maron.

Am I weird to think there's a great idea for a movie in that guy's insane rant?
Isn't there some kind of bad blood between Maron and Louie CK?

That should be an interesting episode, but I don't know what kind of demons can be exorcised out of Louie because his show seemed to be doing just that.
History has shown that there's been bad blood between Marc and just about everybody. He starts most of his interviews with an apology for his past behavior.
Yeah, he seems like a really arrogant guy with a lot of anger and jealousy issues.

Also, i hate the first 10 minutes of each show were he's in salesman mode and plugs 20 different things. Other than that, show's great.

The Giraldo Obituary was tough. He really broke down.

The Louis C.K. part 1 episode is great. Part 2 on Thursday!

Haha, too true. Seems like Marc has had beef with everyone in the industry at one point or another. Fuck he's funny.

That's not too uncommon for a free Podcast, would rather deal with that instead of a subscription fee.
Part 2 with Loui is much better. He talks about his kids (an emotional moment) and his process for the Tv shows and the stand up specials.

He fucking edits Loui on a 13 inch macbook pro
post #78 of 147
I wasn't aware of his extensive film-making knowledge, but it doesn't surprise me in the least.
Just came in to give a big thanks to everyone in this thread for turning me on to this.
As mentioned in one of the recent episodes, now there's a WTF iPhone app. Anyone buy it?
I loved both the Louis CK episodes. That guy is brilliant.
A woman I know invited me to go see Maron at UCB this Friday but I already made plans with another friend to meet her for drinks arrrgghh

Besides, it's not like he's never at UCB.

Downloaded it on the SO's ipad, always liked Maron and after reading this thread wanted to see what all the fuss was about. It's a really screwy application, it wouldn't let me play any of the episodes yesterday evening. I'm wondering if it's a server thing or something because the ipad is working fine otherwise.

Is the second interview in episode 62 real? Because holy shit that was crazy.

Not to spoil anything, but it was not real. Those are just some characters played by other comedians that Maron brings on occasionally. I think it's a holdover from his Air America days, but I could be wrong about that.
I figured as much, but the internet has taught me to never discount the possibility that people are that crazy.
It was Matt Walsh and June Rapheal, they did the sketch on Comedy Death Ray too.

Sarah Silverman is on today's episode.
Ira Glass up now...it's weird to hear him curse.
The weirdest part about the most recent episode was how incredibly fake Jessi's laugh sounded. You know that's a side effect from being an executive for Comedy Central, the same way a smoker's hands will be stained with tobacco.
So, Charles Fleischer has been doing a lot of mushrooms lately. That's interesting.

Yeah his interview was very bizarre, interesting then turned tedious really fucking fast.
There's this sublime moment in Marc's interview with Mike Schmidt where he's yelling at Mike for settling in his career and for not fixing things with his estranged brothers, and you realize that he's yelling at himself.
I just got into this podcast in the last week so I've only listened to a couple but the bit about certain disorders not existing any more was just perfect. The whole conversation with Schmidt was just kind of cathartic for me. Just hearing guys talking about their issues so forthright it just really caught me at the right time. Now I need to find the time to go back and listen to some older ones.
Just starting to catch up with this, but I've only heard the Paul Schreer one so far. Nice guy, kinda crazy life history. Thanks for the heads up, collection of internet people.
I'm not a big fan of Mike Destefano, but his most recent episode is incredible.
God, I need to catch up with this.
After hearing the Mike Schmidt episode, I finally got around to checking out Mike's podcast, "The Forty Year Old Boy". It's overlong, rough around the edges, and his producer's laugh can get obnoxious, but if you like the moments where Maron's neuroses and anger are front and center, it's definitely worth your time. I recommend Episode Thirty-Three, Year Three for an unforgettable road-comedian horror story.

I have no idea who DeStefano is (I'm British so I only know a lot of comedians from Youtube clips or other podcasts) but he was a hell of a guest, it also showcases how great Maron can be as an interviewer. IF you notice it's not really until the end that he says a hell of a lot, the rest of it is him asking the right questions and letting DeStefano talk it out. He isn't trying to prove how funny he is, or what great insight he can give because he knows DeStefano is just pouring all this shit out.

Absolutely. I think a big part of it is now WTF has become "that place" where comedians, who all have some kind of fucked up baggage, go to let it out and discuss how it informs their comedy, without fear of sounding too weepy. So it feels like Stefano went in prepared to go where he did.

The new episode with Jackie Kashian (very funny lady, and really sweet to boot) is almost 100% inside baseball, which is heaven for a comedy dork like me. I really get off on tiny inane details about what crowds respond to what material, and all that.

Kevin Smith's interview now overtakes Patrice O Neil's as the least tolerable of the show's history. And while Patrice is an interesting and funny guy who also happens to be insanely misogynist, Kevin Smith couldn't have come off like a more unbearable twat if he tried. Nearly everything that came out of his mouth was so annoying and self-congratulatory.
