Terriers on FX - Page 2

Anyone else kind of love and dig the hell out of the theme tune?
And there can be no happy ending for Hank. He is just doomed. That is the feeling I get. And god help the bastard from the first episode, cause somehow I think if Hank wants to fuck with you he will find all new levels of pain and sorrow to bring you into.
I'm pretty much loving everything about this show at the moment. Really holding out hope that the ratings start to improve.

Completely agree. The man hit rock bottom and tied an anchor to his leg. No matter how hard he tries, whatever the little victories he might score in the show's run, he's too far down to ever get back up again. We're just waiting to see who he drags down with him.

But he is gonna keep trying. And lord help whoever gets in his way.

Even if they are creepy ceiling ninjas.
Yeah it is just as creepy the second time around.
What the hell was up with that ceiling ninja?

Also, c'mon. They are pushing the suspension of disbelief with Brit's girlfriend. She's the cutest, most beautiful and understanding person in the world.

Hank went way too far. That shit was hard.
And my god i will try to use the phrase "that happened to my old job, i was a microwave oven" somehow.

Maybe the ceiling ninjs is related to the empty milk carton and the moving box of cds.
Yeah i know, but what the hell was that all about? Some subconscious thing? An actual guy moving shit around? This show is blending genres with those moments!
Well Brit's girlfriend is clearly just as mixed up as Brit and Hank. She seemed genuinely pissed at him, but strangely this played into some fetish or fantasy she has. So far that is one of the best things about this show is the characters aren't just good guy/bad guy; but they seem to be more human with usual contradictions and fucked up.
So three episodes in we know our lovable hero is very much abusive towards his partner and only friend, is stalking his ex-wife's fiancée and inadvertently caused a man's suicide in order to secure a loan. His best friend is a former criminal and stalker. Even the cute, studying to become a vet, girlfriend has rape fantasies. They're all like some kind of James Ellroy characters. And just how fucking harsh was the way he told masochist banker guy of his wife's infidelity? He was clearly enjoying it. He's a man with major, major issues.

This really is one of the most interesting shows this season. I hope FX stays behind this and somehow manages to get it the ratings it deserves.
Ugh...the ratings for this week's episode were abysmal. This show should easily be grabbing the same audience for Justified. The only thing I can think of is that FX should have focused more on the crime aspect of the show and not the comedy.

The title is pretty shitty too.
Yeah, this show is done. What a shame. Should have paired it with Sons or something like that to give it a little boost.
What a bummer. Only 3 episodes in and I already like Terriers more than Justified or Sons.
Was their ad campaign really that incompetent? The numbers I'm reading seem ridiculously low. I mean just over half a million viewers? What a shame.
Most people seem put off by the name. They think the show is about small dogs.
Have they even had a terrier on the show yet? They had the daschund and the bulldog, but no terriers.
I thought when they started discussing needing a name for the business they were going to start calling themselves Terriers, but that never happened. As of 1x02 anyway, not seen ep 3.
They talked about having a mascot, but I don't think they ever suggested a dog.

There was a guy in a fedora and a magnifying glass mentioned.
Yeah that was it
This show is so damn good. Be a shame it goes away.
Yeah this is my favorite new show of the year. I can't believe that the rating are so weak. Are they doing worse then Damages?

There's comedy in this show? Logue gets off the occasional witty line, but, as a whole, TERRIERS is largely joyless. (Especially that third episode.) Eh, I'm out. You guys enjoy.
Zak pretty much nails both of those points.
largely joyless?? Bullshit. This show is FUN. Sometimes in a dark way, sure.

Are we at last guaranteed a season?
Just caught up. I'm loving the shit out of this show Logue's a powerhouse. Hopefully given time it'll bloom into something really special. It's way darker, but I keep getting a Dawn Patrol vibe. Maybe it's just the setting.

The joyless comments confuse me so much. Was the show marketed as a sitcom or something?
I've only watched the two episodes on Hulu but I am enjoying it and have scheduled my TiVo to record the episodes going forward. Of course, just when I was starting to think I had trimmed my list of cable TV shows down to a small enough number that I could cancel my subscription.

I kinda feel that the promos sold it to be much more of a comedy than it actually is.

It just makes me wonder what Shawn Ryan could do with The Dawn Patrol, since that would make a better series than movie.

Tonally, they're pretty different. Terriers starts out dark and gets darker, The Dawn Patrol is bright and fun and then gradually peels away the layers of paradise. It's just the setting that's similar, and truthfully, Pacific Beach Beach and Ocean Beach might as well be different countries in the tone and feel they have.
I always felt that the promos were too ambiguous. It looks like they're paying for it in the ratings, but I'm loving the show so far.
I kind of love this show and the fact is is telling a much larger story than first thought.
I'm really hoping the show can keep it's balance of light and dark elements. It's great so far - this felt like a nice breath of fresh air after the moody last episode.

Along those lines, Steph fits in pretty well. She's an easy place for some comic relief while of course being just one more depressing element in Hank's life. Interested to see where they go with her. And I'm always a sucker for siblings playing siblings.
I love it so far. It's a shame people aren't giving this a chance.

Are the ratings really that bad?
They're not particularly great. I think they've gone up a little. This really is the kind of show that seems to grow on people, but shows die much faster than it takes people to appreciate them.
Great show. Logue first showed his dramatic chops a while ago; glad he has the opportunity to show them off here. Wish more critics were carrying the torch on this one.
damn that was good
Yeah, this just keeps getting better. And the overarching storyline gets more interesting with each episode.

Exchanges that worked really well "She's my favorite person, no offence" "Nah, just happy to be nominated"
"You gonna visit me in prison?"
"This dude's dead"
I wasn't convinced that whatshisname was dead until the preview for next week's show. And yeah, it's kinda convenient that the newly-introduced sister is an MIT genius, just when they need some technical schematics translated.

Still, it's a great show. And it'll probably die on the vine.
Eh, they introduced the 3 tech geeks in the trailer for solving tech problems
post #90 of 359
True, but I'm betting the sister solves the technical dealie.
AND, since you are the mother of all .gifs, we need a definitive Terriers .gif in this mutha.

Seriously though, you deserve a thread of praise for your fast and amazing .gif work. You're a madman.
Thanks man. I have no idea what I'd gif from the latest episode. Maybe that dude getting owned by a car.
Yeah, it ain't much of a visual show.

Honestly, having a really hard time getting into this show. I've watched the pilot halfway through twice now, and it's just not clicking. I want to stick it out, though.
Keep at it Rath. Gets much better after the pilot.
Just heard Rian Johnson directed tonight's ep.
Really enjoyed last night's episode (told ya Steph would figure out the tech report), and there were some nice directorial flourishes from Johnson. Wish more people were watching this.
This may have been the best episode yet. Hopefully the ratings will tick back up and F/X will give this another season.
Good episode. But even if the evil lawyers DID want the soil report made public surely they weren't banking on the guys putting it back on the corpse. I assume they wanted it back so they could release it when and how they wanted.
Last night won me over. I've been on the fence the last few eps. Something just hadn't clicked yet for me until last night's episode. The actors are great and I like the premise but something was just....missing. Last night's ep it all seemed to gel. The show still isn't great yet and I'm not sure it can get there. But it's better than 90% of what's on TV today and I love the cast so I'll stick around a while longer. As the story shifts next week outside of this arc I'm curious and excited to see how it shakes out.

And I may be outside the norm but I fucking HATE the theme song.
