Saw this about 5 or 6 months ago and I was surprised as too how much I liked it. I was just expecting a cheesy direct to dvd horror film and what I got was a really well done and smart film.

Good pick Nick!

I agree. Love it when horror movies try to break the mold. I caught this on a whim a few months back and found myself pleasantly surprised. Thoroughly enjoyed it as a period piece and as a horror flick.

Also, Dharma reunion!

Wanted to add that "Irreversible Randy" gave me the giggles.

Isn't this a scene from Dances with Wolves?

I was pleasantly surprised the first time I watched The Burrowers. It was a solid horror/Western. Of course, having guys like Clancy Brown, Doug Hutchison, and William Mapother in the movie helped.

I watched the first hour or so (not really sure how much I watched, it was late at night and I was not thinking clearly) last night and found it engaging and fairly scary. I plan on watching the rest when I get home (which should be in aprox one hour, factoring in the time it takes to food shop and pick up a chillzone)

Saw this on FEARnet of all things. I love the genre blending. Not since Grim Prarie Tales have I seen such a swell horror hybrid. Do yourself a favor Kate. Watch it with a glass of whiskey instead of the chillzone. It will do you good.

I was reluctant to watch it initially, despite Nick's recommendation. I was worried that it would be winking at the audience about the genre mashup, but instead it seems to play it straight. So I am definitely looking forward to finishing it up (which I will do in about ten minutes), and will return here tomorrow to share my impressions.

As for the whiskey, I do not drink, but hopefully a bowl and a chillzone can suffice instead

So I quite liked this over all. The concept of the Burrowers lurking beneath the plains feasting off rotting flesh is quite creepy, and I loved how they tied it into the near extinction of the buffalo (and I could be wrong, but is it possible the burrowers themselves evolved from Buffalo the way that the cave creatures in THE DESCENT evolved from people?). The creature design was great, though there were times when it was clear the budget couldn't quite support the vision of the film makers, and the staging of the final confrontation was good in theory but a bit wonky in execution

All the same, glad I watched it. It's a neat little flick and I'd never have given it a chance had it not been for CHUD (these days, the market is swamped with DTDVD horror titles, and it's near impossible to pick the good from the bad, at least with my untrained eyes).

PS I was sad to see SPOILERS Clancy Brown die. I was hoping he'd stick around longer than he ultimately did. I wanted to see his acting when he was forced to confront the fact that the burrowers were not a 'tribe' of indian END SPOILERS

Just watched this on Netflix Instant. Had a bloody good time with it.
