Double Fine's Costume Quest

Double Fine has a new game coming out, Costume Quest (Trailer). I'm a bit hesitant after Brutal Legend, but since it's a downloadable title it should be reasonably priced. Anyone else looking forward to this?

I'll always look forward to a Double Fine production, even though Legend was not my particular cup o' tea.

I want this game and Limbo to have a baby.

NO PC?

Damn you Schafer, why must you spurn my love so cruelly?

The more info that they release on this game, the more I want to play it. I think it looks awesome. Who wouldn't like a game that uses candy as currency?

This game looks like a ton of Halloween inspired fun. Can't wait to play it.

Giant Bomb has a quick look up. Looks super fun.

Im intrigued...about what genre switching the game will perform a few hours through.
Okay, that was lame by even my standars; game looks damn intriguin and i cant help think the Live Arcade format might suit Double Fine better.

This game would have killed if there was some voice acting, but the text bubbles are funny enough to stand on their own.

Giant Bomb's preview covered it nicely. Just a god damned fun to play through. After unlocking the Liberty Costume and seeing it's special attack I want more Costumes.

In between this and Super Meatboy, it's just a great start to the day.

Wife walked in on me finishing this up this morning. It's not often you can say you just used a Unicorn's hot Rainbow of Love to heal a Vampire that's being protected with my Ninja's conceal spell. Because in this game that happens.

The game ramps up way too quickly to its conclusion to really enjoy the late game costume unlocks. Total it amounts to three levels that have a limited amount of exploration and some puzzle solving. The battles themselves, once you've bought a decent splash damage/poison modifier, are way too easy after discovering the 3rd member of your party. It's kind of jarring how they just throw this 3rd piece of meat into the fold without any suitable fanfare or backstory.

Still an enjoyable experience that scratched that turn based rpg itch I've had since being disappointed with ff13. The avatar unlocks are great.

I just got to that yesterday. My first thought: Exactly how much input did Stephen Colbert have into this game?

Enjoying this so far, about halfway through the mall. Stumbled across a neat little trick when somehow my robot got crushed and I was left 1 on 1 against a monster with just my nearly dead Lady Liberty -

If you have the toilet paper stamp equipped on her, you can essentially stunlock an enemy... forever with it and always have max health. It's useable every attack and stuns the enemy for 2 turns, and counts as a "notch" towards powering up your healing special. I was able to go from like 20hp back to full without the monster ever getting a turn to do.. anything. Of course once you attack it breaks the stun, but you can go back to shutting it down and healing up any time you need. I suppose this would work any time you're down to only 1 enemy. Just set it up so your friend has the liberty suit and TP so you can get in a free first attack, have them stun after, resets back to your attacker's turn, stun.. etc etc

Combine that with my main kid having the stamp that gives a free counterattack after every successful block and it's just devastating. Good times. Looking forward to getting my other avatar reward

Would be great if he randomly just showed up when that cutscene plays - and then it just starts airing some random episode.

I wish they are Deathspanking this game with an instant sequel, or dlc.

When I got the French Fry costume: fuck yeah this game is awesome.

Well, short and sweet as they say. Actually I probably got around a solid 6 hours gameplay out of it so I'm quite happy; I could definitely see myself replaying this next year - it's just a fun, harmless little Halloweeny delight.

Agree that they kind of rush the last level out and you don't get much chance to use the last 3 costumes other than for a fight or two a piece (new game+ would be nice), but seeing all the costume battle transformations is just a blast.. the Fry costume transformation being a personal favorite. Yeah, the combat is pretty easy, especially once you get the 3rd party member and you can just completely shut down the enemies while barely getting hit, but I don't really expect or even want a frustratingly difficult cutsey Halloween RPG. That and I'm probably just cheesing the game out by using an elaborate 3 tier stun-lock system in a cutsey Halloween rpg.

If they put out a Christmas sequel I'll be all over it.

So with the announcement of Christmas DLC I took the plunge and picked up the game. About a third of the way through and just having a blast with the game. Such great dialogue and it's got a really nice style to it.
