Welcome to the fold, Tati... I mean, Santiago.

Actually, I dunno what I mean... but welcome! I'll definitely keep my eyes open for more from this blog.

I'm one of the six, Tati. Fire away
Psst ... it's "bear with me." Unless you're inviting us to all get naked with you. Which could be the case, who knows with you weird southern hemisphere people.

If you will have me sir, I would like to be part of your bumpy ride.

One of us, one of us.

I've said before that I like the way you tend to own your status as a (comparatively) novice film watcher, and I admire the way you demonstrate that- first and foremost- you have to watch as much as you can for your opinions to carry any weight.
It doesn't matter what you say on your blog Tati, because in my head I'll be reading it in your accent and it'll all be charming and/or hilarious.
Welcome aboard Tati, as someone who really should watch more classics (as well) I will be reading this blog with interest.

Babydemon.

Also, stoked to see a blog from you. I might even sack up and do one too.

HOW WAS MAMMA MIA, SALLY?

And also Exit Through The Gift Shop. I ain't seen it yet, but I really want to.
I've yet to see 'Gandhi'. Thank you for the reminder to remedy that oversight.

Also, check out 'The Last Days of Patton', a TV movie from 1986. George C. Scott reprised his role as Patton in this semi-sequel to 'Patton'. It's not as good as 'Patton' but Scott is, once again, electrifying to watch.

I fully and willfully contend that MAMMA MIA is great. And great blog, Tati.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll track that down.

I hated Mamma Mia, except for Amanda Seyfried. She's incredibly hot.
My wife just purchased Mamma Mia on Blu Ray, I think a little bit of me died inside.

Just mute Pierce Brosnan whenever he "sings"
Tati, I agree with you about...Patton, but I will likely never watch...Ghandi. Mama Mia was not bad, but to me...Meryl Streep is the most...overrated actress, Ever! Ms. Streep, was the worst part of, Mama Mia! For my taste, the best, WW2 film is...The Guns Of Naverone!
Christine Baranski is the best part of 'Mamma Mia!'

fleed: 'Guns of Navarone' is an awesome WW2 film, but my favorite is still 'Where Eagles Dare'.

I SEE.

Nice write up Tati about those two films. It's been a long time since I've watched them. May have to make a night of it soon.

Thanks guys. The response has been very kind.
I promise to keep bringing you new poorly written opinions of films you have already watched every week!

Blog name I almost went with and i still think it's awesome " A Fistful of Words"
Tati, 'A Fistful of Words' is great but your actual name is even better! Santiago Mateo is the best name of anything ever.
Looks like it's the perfect time for me to finally get on Patton and Gandhi. Looking forward to more entries! The amount of films you're going through is insane to me!

What did you think of 'The General'?

Just keep it coming man and don't get so hung up on it.

I liked it well enough. And i admire it enormously. But silent comedy is not really my thing.

Fair enough. I actually missed an opportunity to see this in the theater about a month ago. They had a piano player playing along with the movie and everything, and I understand that it went over very well.

You said it was terrible so I didn't bother. No, seriously, I think you are doing a great job so far.
Glad to see you talking about film on the main page, Tati. I gotta agree with TzuDohNihm. Stop apologizing so much. It's a blog. There are no right or wrong ways of doing it. That said, your insight is much appreciated. The great thing about film is we bring our own history and personal meaning to things, so its interesting for me to see how others interpret the films I've seen. Keep it up. Even if we're not commenting, we're reading.

That was mostly my reaction to it as well. Of the silent comedies I've seen, I've admired them, enjoyed them and laughed but I'll probably never be the type to passionately argue about Keaton being superior to Chaplin or something.

And that wasn't terrible at all.
No, from everything I've learned it's not really typical for a movie production to have so much extra material as to be able to make a completely separate movie from it. Sure, there are going to be deleted scenes and alternate takes and such, but a full movie is rather rare.

Isn't it?
I mean, i saw it in awe. There are so many characters and new storylines that were completely changed and excised. How much money did they spend on those scenes and were just left on the cutting room. What about the actors that were used. Some of them very famous.
It really boggles my mind!
You draw an interesting parallel between Carrie and Dressed To Kill that never occurred to me. And it's a valid point.

It's those kinds of things that keep me coming back to a blog. I'll definitely keep reading.

Magnolia is such a masterful piece of filmmaking. I don't think PT Anderson will ever make a movie quite like that again. He put so much of himself in there... I don't think he'll ever top that film for sheer mad ambition. Yes, I loved TWBB. But Magnolia is still his best film, I think.

Nice write-up on 'Salvador'. I've never gotten around to seeing that one, so thanks for the reminder to get it. If you're still in a James Woods mood, I'd like to recommend 'Cop'. He's astounding in it.

What did you think of 'Forbidden Planet'?

I really didn't get into it until halfway through.
The first act is like a Star Trek episode. It looks cheap, the jokes are bad and the sets are terrible. And it's incredibly sexist. Every man loses his head over the girl and the girl only wants to get kissed and fucked.

I hated that aspect. But when they go through the Krell machine and the ID monster attacks, it won me over.
Yeah, it's definitely a product of its time, attitude wise. Get past that and it's a really solid gem of a movie. Nielson is great in it, and it still boggles the mind to realize that THAT actor would go on to play Frank Drebin.
Aw crap, last week I decided to free some space on my DVR to make room for Cat On A Hot Tin Roof and African Queen. It was either get rid of Salvador or the E True Hollywood of Lark Voorhies. I guess I got that one wrong.

Hahaha I had it for weeks before i finally gave it a chance. I was really pleasantly surprised.

African Queen is fantastic as well.
