Never seen it, but dear lord, I cannot wait.

You can wait. Really, you can. Its pseudo-legendary status does not have merit.

I was thinking about blind-buying this. Should I reconsider?

Hell no. Buy it.

I have to own it, I've been waiting for years so it almost doesn't matter if it's a disappointment or not. Having it is the goal.

May all of your life's ambitions be so easily achieved.

Starcrash is like hopping aboard the A-Train to Velveetaville. It's utter lack of production value alone is worth the price. But when you throw in Munro, Gortner, and Plummer, there's really no valid debate to steer you away from it. I've been waiting for this glorious POS to hit DVD for about a decade now. You won't be disappointed.

They play the trailer for it at the Alamo Drafthouse all the time, and that's made its unavailability even more tragic...until now. I've seen enough of these kinds of films to know the reality is that it'll probably drag like hell and be more boring than entertaining, but its an Italian knock-off (Cozzi no less), no one does it like them, and the talent casserole of Munro, Plummer, Spinell, and Hasselhoff is too great a temptation to deny myself.

You had me at Munro.

I forgot all about Joe and David. It really has been far too long.

Good man.

This is a re-release, no? I rented it from Netflix a couple years ago.

Regardless, I want a remake starring Kelly Brook STAT!

I find it a bit strange myself, but really, just one of these things I never got around to despite being genuinely interested for such a long time. Now if a film I have seen, Yor, Hunter from the Future is released on a Region 1 DVD, I think the world might crack in half from the onslaught of awesomeness.

Thomas Treasure is working on the review.

These words should be engraved on the base of the Statue of Liberty.

Review coming on Monday!

I've always said my love for this film is unseemly. And now I have written an unseemly review to go with my unseemly love.

Really great review.

Great review, from that alone I must now own this film.

Now if we can just get a decent Message from Space disc, my cheesy Star Wars ripoff collection will be complete.

The set would not be complete without Starchaser: The Legend of Orin.

Oh, yeah. The Danger: Diabolik name-drop was a nice bonus. Great review, man.

"This is the first legitimate release of Starcrash in region 1"

Really? Then what did Netflix have previously? Or are you using "legitimate" as a quality rating like "bonafide" or "non-bastard"?

EDIT: And good review, BTW.

Highly entertaining read, Thomas. You would've delivered a great commentary track for this.

I blind bought this yesterday on Amazon.

As far as I'm concerned there's only one strike against Munro, and it's that she never got naked. Damn her self-respect!

Thanks to all for the kind words!

We can! Apparently a good anamorphic transfer (the screencaps here look good) with subtitled Japanese audio plus the English dub with Vic Morrow's voice. It was released in March but I just found out about it the other day. I ordered a copy yesterday, if you want I'll let you know how it is when it arrives.

It's my understanding that previous version, from Substance Films, was released without licensing; I think the rights were a little up in the air back then (another company released a VHS ripped DVD of Starcrash under the title "Female Space Invaders" around the same time). That Substance Films DVD is how I first saw the movie, though.
